    Super! Storybook stuff

Something certainly not right with MM – hanging very badly from alfway wasn’t he. Connections must be concerned as that’s the 3rd time in a row he has regressed

A tough one to call on these terms. Overall I think Well Chief can come out on top

    Chapoturgeon

clocked a time nearly 2 secs faster than Imperial Commander over the same C&D on the same day at the festival.

This, plus the visual impression of his win, suggests to me that this is a Grade 1 winner in waiting.

Even after his 18lb rise and revised mark of 153, I still think he has room for manouevre and could have 10lbs+ in hand.

Potentially extreme conditions make things a bit more doubtful, but all in all I expect him to take this before challenging for Grade 1 honours henceforth.

7/1 looks good value. I have also backed him at 14/1 for the Ryanair.

The one I am worried about for the GN is Garde Champetre, as I guessed 160, but I followed that one by two question marks instead of one.

If the weights for the GN were published tomorrow I dare say Garde Champetre would be rated mid 140s by the handicapper. Certainly no higher than late 140s

17pts, 42pts . . . ?? Bit strange. What scale is your staking based on Ginger? (i.e: what is your max bet?). Is a scale of 1-5 or 1-10 not adequate?

Backed Swinbrook at 14/1 (SJ only let me have £28 e/w though) before he got Hugh Taylored this morning. Into 8/1 now – looks to have a solid chance at a course he loves

    The Sun: SCUM

I didn’t think my loathing of this newspaper could get any greater but I was wrong. Absolutely disgusting antics on this issue. Just plain nasty and vindictive. Horrible.

I guess the mother’s irrationality can be forgiven due to the circumstances (although if she was that grief stricken I’m not sure recording the telephone conversation would have been at the forefront of her mind) but the gutter journalist’s that have pandered to Murdoch’s agenda should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

Can’t help but feel for Gordon Brown

I backed Gone To Lunch at 12/1 to win this race.

Was 55 on Betfair when I looked yesterday so may be a NR. Good place chance if he runs though

Zarkava and STS both ran to very similar levels in their Arcs. STS was mightily impressive in the way he quickly shot 4l clear. Zarkava was mightily impressive in the way she cut through them and looked fresh as a daisy in the final 100 yards (as she always did in her races). The fact is that we never got to the bottom of either horse as STS idled and Zarkava only got there in the final furlong in each race and won going sway full of running. So it’s basically impossible to say who is better. STS achieved more in his career but that doesn’t make him a better horse.

One thing I have to disagree with you on Fist is that you say STS didn’t have a turn of foot but Zarkava did. I disagree. STS was a quickener, Zarkava was a lengthener/roller (she gained more and more momentum with every yard she went and always looked smoothest as she passed the post – this is not what a quickener does). Just because she came from the rear doesn’t make her a quickener/turn of foot horse. STS quickened with a turn of foot to win his races 1-2f out (apart from the Guineas) and then maintained his advantage in the final furlong.

Do you mean ‘of the decade’? Loads of older films on that list

Citizen Kane simply has to be in any top 5. To not have it in the top 100 is laughable

edit; please ignire me, was looking at the wrong list!

PS: Your link is the wrong one

    THe decade list:

Memento is surely the best and most original film of the last decade?

Mulholland Drive should be up there too

Totally misplaced thinking there Hard held

You are almost suggesting that we could live with a "hundreds" being killed by terrorists and just shrug our shoulders? Is this some kind of joke?

The idea that AQ only attacked the west (and would have continued to attack the west) only because of Iraq is ludicrous given that 9/11 occured sometime before Iraq. AQ had no time for Saddam anyway

You have no understanding of AQs agenda and aims. They would not simply leave us alone if we left them alone (and why shouldnt western people be in arabia anyway? what sort of world do you want?)They believe that we are targets because of our very EXISTENCE

And given the resources, they would not restrict attacks to a "few hundred" Was 9/11 a few hundred?

it has to be your own internal struggle to remove them

Its not that simple is it really? Would you sit back and allow a Pol pot type regime slaughter thousands in Belgium say?

I’m not seriously saying we should do nothing. I’m just throwing some not particularly well thought out thoughts out there on a hungover Sunday morning. Like I say I’m not at all sure that we should pull out but sometimes one can’t help but think that we’re getting this very wrong somewhere

Osana takes on 15 at Navan, currently around 6/4 mark. Couple in there that could give ham a race, namely Roberto Goldback and Realt Dubh. Heavy Irish ground might not be to the former Pipe horse’s liking?

Certainly not a horse to rely on at a short price imo

    RP Report:

IN one of the most memorable, stirring and uplifting performances seen on an American racetrack, the remarkable Zenyatta ended her career in exemplary fashion by outrunning the Breeders’ Cup Classic field to send Santa Anita into a state of delirium.

Summed it up well I thought :D

THe irony is that we say we are in Afghanistan etc. to stop attacks here. An attack here would most likely lose us a few hundred lives tops. But being in Afghanistan has resulted in the loss of hundreds of troops lives and no end of innocents have died in Afghanistan (but that’s ok, they’re only poor, primitive Muslims, they don’t have real feelings). You can guarantee that far more innocent lives will be lost ‘protecting’ lives than would have been lost by doing nothing

People will say "it’s not just about the numbers, it’s about principle/protecting our way of life, we can’t let them win" blah blah. But that doesn’t really wash. If we didn’t stick our noses in the business of such countries they’d have no reason to attack us anyway. The best thing we could say to Afghanistan/The Middle East is "sorry for sticking our noses in your business over the decades, won’t do it anymore. We’re pulling out of Afghanistan, Iraq etc. This may mean the Taliban etc. regain power and whilst we are not a fan of their principles, it has to be your own internal struggle to remove them. Just as we have had our own internal struggles to wins our own freedoms over the centuries. Goodbye. PS: Now that we have done the above please stop plotting to attack us. PPS: if you continue trying to destabilise democracies such as Pakistan we will be back"

In reality I’m not 100% sure if I am anti-Afghan war or not; I’m just thinking out loud above regarding my doubts; I used to be for it, but the more I reflect on it the more I think we are wasting out time. Obviously the above is never going to happem; far too sensible
