For the first time in years I failed to pick one in the first four, but to me it mattered not a jot.
AP has given so much to national hunt racing,he has lifted the sport to a whole new level.
The criticism he has taken has been sickening, mainly by people whose only contact with a horse has been via a trade paper.
To see him punching the air in triumph brought a tear to my eye,his joy and excitiment was tangible.
Well done Tony, you are an absolute hero who’ll always be remembered as the finest national hunt jockey of all time.
Superb.Being a huge fan of the Tizzard’s and having been at Taunton when he won last time out I can’t ignore The Jazz Musician.
I know,I know,I know.
He’s not a 60/1 shot though,he’s better than that.Yes,a very good review for what promises to be a cracking contest.
Not a lot to say that hasn’t already been said so I go for The Nightingale to bring home the bacon.
Progressive, improving and fresh I can see him winning with something in hand.
Cheltenham will have taken a lot out of many of these, the form is not to be relied on,something many of us will have learned to our cost over the years.
This is the race of the day for me,a real gem.Awful news,he was a lovely horse and one with a huge amount of ability.
Very sad.Given the conditions and lack of obvious qulaity this has to be a pin job.
I’d had a small punt on Stewarts House, cheers for the heads up on that,so have had an each way investment on Selection Box.
I can see this being carnage.
Let’s hope they all come back safe and soundHugh is very good at doing what he is employed to do,it’s churlish to knock him.
Racing doesn’t belong to these so called "pro" punters, there are lots of people who follow and love the sport who rely on his tips to give them a bit of fun and take an interest.
Those who knock him are the elitist brigade who think they and only they have some deep ethereal knowledge of how the form book works, and a bit of value is theirs and theirs alone.
The man does a fine job.
Don’t knock him.Just reading this after a spell in the sick bay myself, what very sad news to come back to.
My wife loved this animal,it has been a favourite for a few years now.
Thanks for the memories,my thoughts are with connections. The key to Imperial Commander is his preference for going left handed,a course like Cheltenham is obviously perfect for him.
I’m sure Nigel knows what the horse needs, there was no harm in trying something different, what happened at Christmas was obviously a mistake.
It’s churlish to knock the form of the race simply because Kauto fell.
Denman ran an amazing race,he was heroic and brilliant in defeat.
The facts though are there for us all to see.
Imperial Commander loves Cheltenham, loves the trip and is a very worthy Gold Cup winner.
I’d back him to beat Kauto Star everytime if they ever have a rematch there.
And I don’t think we’ll ever see him going for spins right handed on easy tracks in the future.Celebrate him.
Don’t knock him.Last Friday we saw the real Imperial Commander,a horse who has learnt his trade and has now got all the right tools.
A fantastic perfromance by all concrened, this was a thoroughly deserved win by a fantastic team.
Denman was beaten fair and square, and what a race he ran.
Kauto was beaten when he fell, that’s not the first time he’s not performed in a Gold Cup.
When things don’t go his way this can happen to him,in cricket I think it’s known as a flat track bully.
Well done all at Nigel’s,this was a fantastic renewal.
And a superb winner. Some excellent points, very well made.
I’d love to see Denman win later today,he is the perfect chaser in my opinion.
Numerous horses have shown they can bounce back after a poor display last time out,Menorah readily springs to mind.
If he gets into a rhythm early on and AP can give him a quiet breather at the top of the hill on the final circuit I can see him once again breaking Kauto’s heart.Whatever happens, let’s pray that they all come back safe and sound, fit to race again.
I agree totally with Big Bucks.
Sizing Europe was class today,an authoritative winner of a decent renewal.
Fans of the good Captain should stop trying to pick holes in his form and just watch what has been unfolding in front of them.
Sizing Europe is a better chaser,he is the best two mile novice chaser in the business.
That is now beyond doubt. The performance of the day for me.
Superb.
Classy.
Very sad news,so very unlucky.
Let’s hope we have no more fatalities,we want racing in the news for the right reasons. That McCoy is rubbish isn’t he?
Small race jockey.
Can’t do the job in a big race. What more needs to be said.
Great ride.
Very impressive.CAN EVERYONE WHO KNOCKED HIM
PLEASE HAVE THAT

I couldn’t agree more.
Brilliant.

I was at cheltenham preview last night and Carl Llellwyn suggested that RJ was shaken up after taking a very heavy fall on planet of sound in the race before.
Very much so.
At least one person, who is very close to the horse, thought he should have given up the rest of his rides that day.
There were some harsh words down in Bilbrook that evening.I’ve refused to touch Dunguib at odds on,the evens was too much temptation though.
I’ve been sweet on Oscar Whisky for a while and just to confuse things further a friend who has close links to the yard tells me that the Hobbs team think they can go very close now the ground has dried out with Menorah.
Given a stinker by Johnson last time and on ground which he hated maybe this is another to seriously consider. That is sad news,so soon after Peter as well.
Proper racing people, she’ll be very sadly missed.- AuthorPosts
