They crawled for 5f listen to the commentary, EP accelerates off a fast pace. SNA does he go on good, good to firm? Was he just a good 2yo we’ve seen it all before. He wasn’t pulling in the race above you must have been watching something else.
I see totesport go 7/2 EP makes my 20s-1 look good. Might have to lay some on Betfair!

What does a SNA type mean? How many horses would have spreadeagled the field of the Racing Post last year, which included EP? There is no SNA type.EP left the rest for dead that day and he was caught and left 4lengths behind by Murtagh !Everyone is talking about EP now because the victors write the history.
I’ve been talking about EP and backing him since early Feb maybe not on here.
EP was caught napping by SNA so as I see the only way he will get beaten is letting that happen again. Perhaps we should ask Ryan Moore. What did he just say to Mrs Spencer I missed it?

Hi Zenjah
Good fun and no offence meant if I was a bit abrupt – had to go out.
You make very valid points and I think EP will have to go early so he doesn’t get caught napping by the likes of SNA or an SNA type. Good news is the finish at Newmarket is uphill so it will be a true test.
I couldn’t back any horse at less than 4-1 ew for this race I guess is the point I am trying to make. The fact that Guy and John are both just up the road makes me a little biased to EP.

Don’t try to be too clever I said this:-
Sea the Stars winning time 1min 35.88 on faster going
Elusive Pimpernel (warm up and slowing down at the finish) 1min 37.16
SNA Doncaster 1min 39.62The times were over 1 mile. The first two were over the same CD. EP looks as good as Sea the Stars for the following:-
1. He was slowing down
2. The ground was not as fast.OK SNA was a 2yo and we all know it was a mile on a different course so it is very difficult to draw comparisons. But he is going to have to improve a lot.

Interesting comments and good debate.
I’d like to pick up on one or two.
EP moving to the right. I’d say intelligent animal as that is the way the course goes after the finish and he would happily have carried on into Newmarket high street. He was slowing down for the last 100 yds so the win distance flatters those left trailing.
"Fry esp as you haven’t got any to compare with the ones that will turn up on the day.
Moore said he’ll be better in a quick run race…
You’re doing it all wrong, raw times mean nothing fella."Mr Wilson the point I was making was in reply to earlier posts that EP was too slow. Clearly he is not and up there. It’s like rowing there are too many other factors race on race (going, wind, pace etc.).
I say that 6-1 is still a very good ew bet. EP looks certain to make the frame so the win bet is for free at 4-1 or greater. I always do ratio bets so I’m very happy with my 20-1+ bets. Not as happy as Zarkarva – well done.
I can’t believe anyone would back SNA at 2-1 with no proof as a 3yo.
Then if we were all the same life would be boring, and there would be no bookmakers!

Elusive Pimpernel (warm up and slowing down at the finish) 1min 37.16
SNA Doncaster 1min 39.62A length is 8 feet. 1min 37.16 is 5.5 lengths (45feet) in front of 1min 39.62.
Interesting.
The difference is you are batting in the dark. We know EP has moved on and filled out.
At 6-1 it’s a free win bet ew on EP. It was at 20-1 if you did a ratio bet.

Two weeks and a bit to go.

Certainly didn’t go markedly right – just slaughtered the field. His half brother is on the dams side and he ran a good third. That was a messy race and the jockey eased into third. If EP is told to go 3f out I can’t see anything staying with him on good ground.

John’s a gentleman and my current interest is 1st May.
I’m sure he’ll get the distance, my concern would be will he come down the hill, which isn’t in a big horses favour.

Well thought out and well done.
At 6-1 he’s still a cracking ew bet.
As John said yesterday:-
"That was very impressive. I didn’t think he was under pressure but he does come off the bridle and he picked up extremely well.
"I don’t know what the opposition was like. He was odds-on and it was 6-1 the field – they are good judges these punters.
"There were two things to take out of the Racing Post Trophy.
"
First of all it was slow ground, which didn’t suit, and they didn’t go very fast, so it wasn’t a truly run race
.
"The winner (St Nicholas Abbey) was very impressive at Doncaster but mine is a very, very big horse who has matured through the winter and maybe the other horse hasn’t."
Moore said: "He’s a big horse and when he hit his stride he quickened up very well.
"He travelled like the best horse in the race and once he got out he was always going to gallop past them.
"He showed he’s in good order. He likes the track and handles the ground, so has a lot going for him."
As I see it he will go from 3f out and I can’t see anything staying with him as a 3yo at Newmarket. He likes the track which has an uphill finish and has plenty of speed and staminar.
Ew @ 6-1 after that run on that course is a free win bet with some change imo.

Elusive Pimpernel
Not just me that he excites. Thanks for the comments above and especially re supplements.

No I didn’t write it!
He is a big horse so it will be interesting to see how much muscle he’s put on.
Put on loads of muscle not puny like SNA.

Can’t see SNA beating this one ever again. I also have a substantial financial interest in saying that!

I got 20-1 for the 2000 Guineas (again) from my local bookie this am. Didn’t double it up, so who did that for you? It didn’t cross my mind to do that, I just had a win bet at 5/4. I was quoted a miserable 66-1 for the 2000g/Derby double before the Craven (Ladbrokes)!
Who rides EP in future? Guess Eddie Ahern or RL Moore.

Take some beating:

Thanks re the odds but we’re not under orders yet!
One thing for certain it’s going to be one hell of a race. I just want John Dunlop to have another great horse after all Guy Harwood had Dancing Brave (one stop up the road).
I have watched the Racing Post video several times and I think EP was caught napping by SNA in softish going. With Ryan Moore on board it’s going to be fun and EP for certain does not like being beaten.

Has SNA trained on? Does he go on good ground?
My money @ 25-1 (both 2000g & Derby) says EP will win.

Hi raymo61,
Mobaasher I don’t buy that. 26 runs, 5 wins, 5 seconds and 8 places. Last run over 4 miles, he had an amateur jockey, took a hell of a clout a long way out, lost momentum, and still came a close 5th.
To date he has never fallen. We know he gets 4 miles on good/good to soft and has speed. Not sure what more you want but I don’t think you’ll get 20-1!!!

I think this is a cracking ew ratio bet
Mobaasher
. Sportingbet, Stan James and Coral only ones going 20-1. Badly hampered at Cheltenham last time, losing momentum and lenghts, but still ran on (ish) to finish fifth. He was the favourite and can deliver this time.
