Thursday 18th July
:
Has anyone seen the 7.25 from Worcester?
Well if you were hoping to see it in the review, forget it, it wasn’t shown.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
Sunday 14th July
:
No obvious mistakes this morning, but no Downpatrick either.
King/Queen for a Day is very watchable, but could this not have been shown at 12.15 without further cutting down the review slot?
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
Saturday 13th July (Part 1)
:
Chepstow 8.40 SP and 9.10 Betting graphic shown in wrong order.
Cork 5.55, 6.30, 7.30, 8.00, 8.30, 9.00 – Only first circuit shown! So we didn’t see the finish of any of these races.
Cork 8.00 – SP graphic preceeded race, betting graphic followed race.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
Wouldn’t it be better to just forward these issues directly to ATR?
No it wouldn’t, as they have never replied to any email or tweet.
Back to the point.
Friday 12th July
:
No obvious mistakes this morning and even played the review from Southwell on Tuesday to make up for the disaster on Wednesday morning. Would have preferred to see Uttoxeter, but let’s not be too picky.

What an absolute mess ATR made of the review this morning. Only Wolverhampton and Roscommon shown and then an attempt at repeating them at 10.15 until they experienced "Technical difficulties".
Who was in charge of the VTR this morning, the cleaner? Actually the cleaner could probably have done a better job.
Seriously, ATR need to sort themselves out.

That’s what I thought when I saw the schedule on the website which is very misleading.
Why they can’t show an accurate schedule on screen at 9.00am is another mystery.
At least we got to see Brighton and most of the Stratford races at 10.15.
Hopefully it will be Ripon and Uttoxeter tomorrow.
Going to be frustrating on Friday morning though. With 5 other meetings on Thursday we probably won’t see 3 of them. I predict there is absolutely no chance of Ffos Las being shown.

I think they stopped trying about a year ago.
How can ATR expect to keep all their media rights when they fail to cover the racing properly.
"News" and betting plus previews and betting with general chat seem to take priority over showing the actual races.
All I want to see is each race broadcast once in full without any split screens, betting crawlers or voice overs, preferably with a full screen betting and sp graphic.
Understandably this isn’t always possible during the live coverage, which is why we used to have a full review programme.
Now that has been cut there are numerous examples of races that are never shown full screen in their entirety.

Could have shown Hexham today.
But no, reviews of Doncaster and Cork twice instead.

You were right espmadrid. Two runnings of Fairyhouse,I didn’t bother to check if they ran Yarmouth twice,
just assumed that would be the case
.
It was

You can imagine how little of the other 15 meetings we’re going to see on the review during Royal Ascot next week.

AARGH!
They’re doing it again! On and on about Henry Cecil instead of showing the racing review. There’s plenty of time to do it between 11am and when racing starts so drop this and get on with the Review of yesterday’s action. Not that anyone at ATR is likely to listen.Totally agree. Whenever there’s a special feature the racing review suffers further cuts.
They had a 15 minute feature on Animal Kingdom on the 2nd, but why did it have to go out in the review slot? This resulted in the meeting from Worcester on the 1st being dropped.
Maybe they will show Fontwell at 10.15 tomorrow as they only have the two flat meetings to review tomorrow which will fit in the 9.15 – 9.57 slot.
Given their poor track record, more likely they will just show Yarmouth and Fairyhouse twice.

"AT THE RACES has blamed the bad weather at the start of the year for a fall in the channels viewing figures for the first quarter of 2013."
The real reason of course is that they messed about with a format that didn’t need changing and made the whole channel less appealing to viewers who like to watch horse racing, rather than those that just like to bet on anything that moves.
Replacing the full Racing Review with repetitive "news" bulletins was a big mistake.
If the executives who made this shocking decision would swallow their pride, admit they were wrong and restore the old format, maybe viewers will return.
However, losing Ascot in a year won’t help. The looming threat of the return of Great Leighs isn’t going to save your bacon boys however much you try to hype it up.

Am I imagining it, or have ATR/Sky at last solved the annoying electronic interference/glitches that plagued the channel for the last year?

Definitely no sign of them for the past few days.

This has happened before at Ffos Las, a bit of a farce really.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise as the sun tends to set in the same place and time each year! Surely the meeting could have been swapped with one of the flat meetings and run in the afternoon to avoid this potential problem.

John Tyrrel will be turning in his grave. Although I suspect he has turned several revolutions already.
C4 have been on the downgrade for several years. Full screen SP graphics with tote returns disappeared many years ago. While I don’t see the need to reel out the results from other meetings that are now covered on other channels, a full screen sp graphic shown for ten seconds would be much easier to see as not all of us have a 50" widescreen plasma TV.
Before the Internet revolution, the results round-up was essential viewing to keep up to date with the day’s racing. The BBC also had a similar results update with the two way scrolling results graphic.
C4 and ATR seem more and more like car salesmen. They pump you full of what’s coming up and betting shows, but once the race has finished there’s little "after sales" service. Sp’s are only squeezed in with a tiny graphic, if they have time and sometimes with no voice-over so easily missed if your attention has wavered from the screen.

These were the official gradings many years ago, mid 1980’s I think.
Compared to racing today, there are a few surprises.
