Another day, another Frankel Stakes winner as Aljazeera wins easily at Yarmouth. She has done nothing but improve and will stay in training next year.
We need dem Group 1’s though
Monarch’s Glen definitely going to be withdrawn from the HIT sale as JG said post race he is going to be put away for next year.
If he can be taught to settle he could be very good indeed.
I suspect he’ll be withdrawn from the sale TO. He has improved a lot since he was put in. That is unless Juddmonte aren’t interested in keeping hold of a gelding.
I agree that he is likely to be retained
In recent years Juddmonte have kept a number of older geldings in training and PK hardly needs the money. The test is whether the horse can win at Group level and Monarch’s Glen looks nailed on to win at least at Group 2 level and maybe at Group 1
LevelBig Tits got past the French censor after its French translation Gros Nichons was rejected.
I also saw a filly called Tite Fanny racing in France.
Wear The Fox Hat got spotted just in time having been entered to run at Folkestone before a name change was required.
Quite a clever one I remember from the 80s was Lowawatha by Dancing Brave out of Shorthouse
(reference Hiawatha!)
Louis Freedman named his horses really well. Too many to name here but Sandy Floss (Green Desert – Mill On The Floss) was a good one and also Milly Ha Ha by Dancing Brave out of that same mare.
As regards ”naughty” names:
Weigh Anchor as called by Peter O’Sullevan was mildly amusing.
Norfolk Enchants (2006) got through the Aussie name filter in recent times.
Shy Talk in the 70’s
The older members will remember a very smart horse from the 70s named Muff Diver (seriously; I think Weatherbys changed their naming rules shortly afterwards).
Muff Diver was by Idiot’s Delight out of Deep Diver
Naming rules failed to stop Mary Hinge getting through but they stopped Joe Blob just before it ran.
This has been going on for years. Why has it taken so long to be raised ?
The races concerned were the (a) the Foxhunters’ and (b) the Newent Selling Chase.
(b) was Ferrens
Interesting question Voleur. For me, a lot of their success is to do with the strength (and diversity) of their broodmare purchases back in the 1970s (think Mofida, Sookera etc.), the female families that have resulted, and then the way they have worked with those families over the years. Initially the mares went to classic stallions. Mofida’s best daughters (Zaizafon and Modena) are by The Minstrel and Roberto for example; Navajo Princess went to Lyphard to get Dancing Brave; Where You Lead produced Slightly Dangerous again to Roberto. In the next generation, Mofida’s daughters went the Mr P, ND sons route, to produce the likes of Midsummer and Reams of Verse. In turn, they have been put to Juddmonte’s own-bred stallions to get the likes of Midday. This is more the Aga Khan model than Coolmore (which is a stallion-based operation). Actually, the affinities between Juddmonte and the AKS are quite striking when you compare Zarkava’s, Kingman’s and Hasili’s pedigrees. Zamindar (whose dam is Zaizafon) is the sire of Zarkava and the broodmare sire of Kingman; Hasili is by the AK’s stallion Kahyasi who is also the broodmare sire of Zarkava. I’m sure there’d be more if I looked harder. I think this signals a wider quality that you allude to in your post – the capacity to learn from others, and not just to follow fashion.
Nail on head.

In stark contrast to the sprawling, inefficient, inward looking incoherent breeding operation of SM and his family.
It will not happen as he will be seen as too working class but I would like to see her go to Kendargent to get a bit of the Grey Sovereign line into the pedigree
That first European G1 remains elusive and it is hard to see where it is going to come from this year.
Nelson in the St Cloud 2000 metres Critérium on 29 October ?
Monarch’s Glen has had his nuts out. Maybe he will now fulfil his potential……at least on the racecourse.
What price is he for the Triumph Hurdle?
I think he might be a bit too good for going jumping…….at least for the time being. JG don’t do jumping.

This is a great thread by the way. I have not been on these Boards for a while and have enjoyed reading it.

12 flights of hurdles imo

You may have a point. I see Mighty Yar was entered for Wolves on Saturday in the race Hamelin won but was a non runner. Entered as a gelding for the first time.
Any news on who might be installed at Warren Place next season ?
Very sad to see the yard limping along to the end of the season and Lady C’s retirement with hardly any runners let alone winners.
Will be interesting to see if George Scott gets any allocation from Juddmonte when he starts training having retained some support from Niarchos.
Very boorish behaviour from David Elsworth.
