Prufrock’s post…Dean Coleman is reported as having been ill, to have had a dental problem and to have had a puncture
And to top it all, he misses out on a winner! Now that’s what I call ‘a bad day at the office’. Some guys have all the luck!
Yes that was an awesome sight still lingering fondly in the memory. So many lengths clear on the far side and piling on the pressure, pressure. One of those joyous moments when you see the jockeys behind becoming more anxious and pushing and pushing but not appearing to make inroads. Coming round the final bend is hope and prayer time. Will he last out? Please God don’t let them catch him up the hill. Sweet success. Nice price. Joy of joys.
Just watched the finish of the race and whereas normally you see at least a few people by the winning post jumping and cheering, I have never ever seen such a less animated group of people on the line. Which seems remarkable considering the price was 5/1….obviously very few of your average punters were on.
Phone rings….ring ring…ring ring.
"Hello, Merthyr Tydfil Massage Parlour, Bronwyn speaking."
"Hi Bronwyn, it’s Delyth here from the next valley. I wonder if you could do me a personal favour please?"
"Oh I’m sorry Delyth, we’re strictly for male customers."
"No, don’t get me wrong Bronwyn, it’s not for me, it’s for one of my horses."
"What do you think I am? I don’t do kinky stuff, Delyth."
"Oh gosh, I don’t want you to do anything at all. It’s just that in a panic I gave your address to some people and next week they’ll be visiting you and I just wondered if you could tell them that you gave one of my horses a bit of a shoulder massage recently."
"Yes, okay then, but what will they look like?"
"Well they’ll be wearing brown trilbies, dark shades, black pin-stripe suits and green wellies."
"Are they nice people, Delyth?"
"Oh I don’t know about that, Bronwyn, but apparently they are men of integrity."
"What’s in it for me though?"
"How about if I buy a year’s subscription for a friend of mine called Richard? He’s very adept with the whip."
Move on quickly, Kevvo, before the moderators get their red pencils and little black books out.
What was that you were saying about a working day in the stables……?
Do I detect a slight hint of jealousy there, Nathan? Have no fear though, after your exertions last night how could you possibly imagine that I would stray? See you again soon, big boy.
And as for Matthew, Llanrumneyboy, that was just a holiday romance always doomed to end in tears.
Best day’s reading I’ve had on here for ages. Look forward to the next instalment in due course, Kevvy.
A typical day in the yard you were working in would, I imagine, be a good insight for some of us.
Thanks
KDefinitely a case for the Integrity Department here. How on earth can Cormack just put this improved performance down to a change of server? If I had my way a life ban would be the appropriate punishment.
Yet again, we poor punters have been duped.
Three things spring to mind:-
1) In the last 12 months the horse has been favourite in one race and second favourite in another. That suggests to me that somewhere along the line someone thought it had a modicum of ability.
2) Three races ago Christian Williams took over from Dean Coleman and the horse ran poorly but bear in mind it was running after a lay off of a few weeks.
3) With Dean Coleman aboard last time it ran very poorly though it remains to be seen whether that might have more to do with Mr. Coleman’s state of well-being. It doesn’t necessarily follow that he is suffering a physical ailment.

The BHA have issued a press release to the effect that the Integrity Department will be investigating all aspects surrounding this particular event.
Armchair Jockey wrote…I’d have thought Sunley Spinalonga is due a third-place finish on that particular sequence though.
I think we have to call that a draw, AJ.
Sorry Yeats, I only have stats for: 1991 and 2002
As it happens, Albrookes, not quite a fortune but I remember my Father putting six pence each way on it for me.
Perhaps there’s something going on in my subconscious about symmetry.
Cheers
KenGood Luck Jug. Can I just make one suggestion though please? It would be helpful if when placing your selections you could also post the result of the previous day just to save us having to search out yesterday’s results. Thanks.
I’m sure it will not be long before your success is on a par with Dangerous Dave though whether you can match the result of the Get Stuck In thread below is debateable.
Happy posting.
K….and "adult" entrepreneurs
Ah, that’s not fair. I enjoyed reading posts from Nathan Hughes.
Hi Kevvo,
A thoroughly enjoyable read, Kevvo. If you can recollect any more similar memories I’m sure we would all appreciate hearing from you again.
What I particularly thought was good are the parts where you can still be pleased about a ride even though it wasn’t a winner. Lots of people fail to give credit where credit is due, simply because the horse and jockey lost.
It would be interesting to know more about what life was like in Lambourn in those days compared to now. Did the jockeys and stable staff do much socializing in the community?
I only ask because these days the Newmarket yards seem to have such a diversity of nationalities and presumably religions working in them that I wonder if there is the same camaraderie or is it a case of everyone just doing their own thing and staying within their own commune?
Thanks
KenDrone, was that last picture painted using Google satellite imagery?
