Johnjo…
Maybe "driven" would be a better word? All semantics of course, but arrogance is in my eyes, displayed by those who think they are too grand to enagage with "lesser mortals"
Racing UK . Free on Saturdays?
According to Alan Lee in the Times today, this is on the cards
Good idea? I think so….but what do others think?
Salselon
I dont find him arrogant at all. Starightforward is the word i would use. he tells it as it is and often off the cuff too and is not slow to criticise himself when mistakes are made. He doesnt cloak himself in some sort of "genius of …blah blah" image and he doesnt get labelled as "shrewdie" for little more than the reason that he says fck all
I am completely with Reet hard here. Whatever anyone thinks of his specific views, some of the interviews hes given (one on RUK a few weeks back stands out) are head and shoulders above most of the drivel and platitudes we hear from so many trainers and are also a perfect illustration of someone completely on top of his game. In the interview i mentioned, anyone with just a cursory interest in the game would have been drawn in
The trainers championship battle with Pipe was unseemly but are we going to hang that on him for ever?
In the past was NH racing quite as competitive as it is now? Were there as many powerful stables and willing owners? A lot of the (somewhat ridiculous) sniping at Nichols is due to the fact that he has "rich owners" but what were the economics in the 50’s and 60’s ?
Strikes me that NH racing has never been so popular with the public (even in the 80’s, you could turn up to Cheltenham Festival on the day and Aintree was dying) and although its not neccesarily a straight line corrolation, that is certainly likely to influence the strength of the stables and ownerships
and a ‘rogue’ who won’t be sighted after the first fence
There is no guarantee of that at all.
We have people on here are trying to say a back peddling hurdler is as much a threat to life and limb as a bad chaser in an attempt to justify them slagging of the man……….absolute garbage!!!!.
You are assuming he will be tailed off and a much as I think you are right, we don’t know that for sure..He could set of like a bat out of hell fall at the second and bring down half the field……and then what?….you and everyone else would say he should never have been allowed to run
PN is not being arrogant he’s being realistic, which is more than can be said for some on here.
I think thats pretty spot on although he should be aware that his openess and success has not endeared himself to some (who would presumably prefer tight lipped trainers with a 7% strike rate)
Aidan put it well too
Regardless of the Rippling Ring issue, sport is elitist and there is nothing endearing or worthwhile about have John Sergeant type escapades, especially in a game where there is real physical danger
A lack of wins in the championship races which is not unconnected his policy of running (ruining?) talent til they could barely crawl out iof the horsebox would always count against Pipe for me
Ive gone for Nichols.

Paul – it doesn’t have to be articulated in a spiteful or hateful way. In fact the throwaway use of discriminatory or disrespectful terms is sometimes worse.
Really find it hard to believe that Harry referring to a colleague as ‘our Paki friend’ is not unanimously felt to have had racist undertones. The fact that Harry may not have said it with any ill-feeling has nothing to do with it.But you still have not answered my question – what is the difference between Paki, Taffy Jock etc?
I think there is a big difference Paul. It is the intent and origin of the name calling that is significant.
As the ugly redheaded retarded in-bred should have known

Absolutely. Anything is better than the vile idea that power should be inherited
The monarchy is useful in that it generates a profit for the country. The yanks, for one, love all the history, pageantry and our peculiar obsession with kings, queens and titled nobility; so the tourist dollar attracted by it all almost certainly exceeds the tax payers’ contribution to the Civil List.
Willnever be an argument that would clinch it for me even if true, but i am highly sceptical about that. Do they shun Paris to come to london to "see the queen"? I dont think so….
As someone who believes the monarchy should be abolished i barely follow any stories surrounding them, but this little woprm does appear to be particularly unpleasnt and dim
Doesnt look like his supposed dad much does he?
Peddling back at Cheltenham is surely not a problem is it? Especially when they hit the straight. Not exactly the bend at lingfield is it?
I agree with PN. although anything can happen, the pacemaker is clearly not going to be a nuisance (although we have seen spoilers in thae past) if they can possibly help it. The no hoper runner will only have a responsibility (whatever that amounts to) to connections
and the national has been prone to some extremes of going too.
Very impressed……
Thanks
If you had backed Denman for the national at this stage, then you would only have yourself to blame. I havent seen anything that suggested it was a definate target and the GC is clearly going to be the number one priortity (which obviously wouldnt be the case for most National ante post prospects).
Kauto is 11/4 for the GC. Not bad for the best all round chaser we have seen in years and also given the continuing uncertainty surrounding his opponents
What more do you want? She has linked up to quotes and videos right throughout the piece
Jeremy Bowen, early on in the campaign stated that israels action was purely designed to strike fear throughout the region. Apart from the fact that that is a very subjective and prejudiced comment from someone who is supposedly "balanced"…. where were his sources?
Big difference. Jeremy Bowen is supposedly (laughably) a neutral reporter/editor. This is the BBC’s duty and the terms of his employment
Like it or not, Melanie Phillips is not under the same constraints and whilst she is pretty diligent with the facts, she writes for papers and journals whos politics are well known
