I imagine it will be good (good to soft in places) come Wednesday afternoon though. Solow was definitely suited by that stiff mile at Ascot so I wouldn’t want to lump on him here, but I do expect him to win, so for that reason…..I’m out.We should also be on Andre Fabre’s case as well. He had a group 1 winner and multiple group 1 placed horse entered which would have enhanced the race, but he pulled him out due to conditions.
David Simcock had such disregard for this race as well, not running The Corsican due to the going.
I know it’s a bit different as Fabre is based in France and The Corsican isn’t a proven group 1 performer, but they scratched their horses for the same reasons.Sorry if that sounds a bit sarcastic, I’m just trying to get the point across. This would have been a much better situation if he just wasn’t entered for the damn race in the first place.
Not sure as to what Dermot Weld is teeing up for Free Eagle as he said after the POW he will aim him at 12f contests. Free Eagle vs Golden Horn though, please racing gods, make this happen.
Am I right in thinking the Juddmonte is currently the highest rated race in the world?
It is just over halfway through the season though with another huge race on its way in a few weeks time.
Comparing Frankel and Golden Horn in this way doesn’t work.
Like Yeats stated, Frankel raced on heavy on his final ever start after a good break. Golden Horn probably would have won today but at what cost to the rest of his campaign?Comparing Frankel and Golden Horn is absolutely fine btw, *to have two horses of this calibre racing across these lands is something to behold and discuss for years to come*. *read in Morgan Freeman voice
Gosden did say plenty of times leading up to the race that if the going was too unsuitable then he probably wouldn’t run. He only ran 3 weeks ago, there is still plenty of racing left in the calendar and its not his fault that this years King George didn’t have an abundance of great runners.
He was also right about the ground at Swinley bottom being very soft as you could see the mud flying about in that area.
It was disappointing, but blame the weather not the connections.
I don’t want to squabble but some of the comments above attacking John Gosden are atrocious.Does the starter not get a call from the stalls to say go ahead?
It was all the more bemusing for the reason being there was a stalls handler in there with Jamie trying to get SB’s head out.
I’ve not seen anything so ridiculous for a long time.255 York – Prince Gibraltar (NAP)
315 Ascot – Lincoln
330 York – Tanzeelres:
Ascot 350 – Golden HornGolden Horn, if pulled, will probably be pulled out at the last minute. The difference between the ground on British champions day ’14 and the ground likely for tomorrow is there wont be any rain from about 4am onwards and it will be warmer so they should wait if they are happy to go on soft but drying ground.
Then again, if they are told there is no way the ground will dry sufficiently by race time they might just call it quits asap.
He should take all the time he wants/needs as he has many more successful years ahead of him and doesn’t need hinder his future racing career despite there being a few months of some big races coming up.
Clerk of the course (forgotten his name) says there is likely to be plenty of rain from lunchtime tomorrow. Having had a look at the weather maps it looks like there could be heavy, persistent rain from 7am till early evening. That would be plenty enough for it to go soft and to stay soft throughout Saturday. Watch this space.
On a side note if it does get plenty soft by 3pm tomorrow I would take another look at Gosden’s filly Solar Magic (10/1) in the listed mile tomorrow.
Two no-shows over 10f recently but finished just ahead of Amazing Maria on good to firm earlier this year and she likes Ascot.Without discrediting a very good racehorse, I have always thought Eagle Top has been overhyped by many and I will not be expecting him to hit the frame.
The Hardwicke was a strange old race this year and Telescope comes into this at 14/1 off the back of it. I would be happy to go each way and a forecast with GH the winner.
I know Telescope has been a blessing for the bookies on a lot of occasions but he is a seriously consistent horse who demands respect.I thought it was a very honest portrayal of how the bookies work online and on the high street, not much BS to be found. Matey boy had it spot on with the comparison of gamblers to punters and the store manager, although unlikeable for his actions, wasn’t portrayed in any false light.
I too look forward to the next one. - AuthorPosts
