    Very belated update!

The first foal Charles Dickens was never seen in Britain again after that debut run at Thirsk and was sold to race in Dubai. His brother Capacity also started life with Mark Johnston and fared better, twice finishing runner-up at 2 yrs. He is racing in Ireland for T McCourt now and shaped well last time.
There is a third foal from the exact same line named Circus Act.

A half-brother to COK by Pivotal appeared last season in the shape of Hanson’D. He won a maiden at Ayr and has run in a couple of good races this year.

Have a safe journey and make sure you don’t get stuck behind Red Rock Canyon nearby!

Anyone else think he might run in the Summer Plate on Saturday? Yes it’s classes above what he’s done already but he needs just one to drop out (which will likely happen) to get in..

I thought I was imagining this so I’m glad someone else noticed it! I certainly heard him saying the grey and Bewleys had fallen. The young lad next to me at Aintree summed it up when he exclaimed to his dad that he ‘thought Berry had fallen dad!’

It’s a tough job and I certainly wouldn’t want to do it but Cattermole makes these mistakes time and time again at the jumps meetings. I wonder how many people were sifting through the rubbish having thrown away their slips on his hearsay, as it involved the horses that finished second and fifth (some bookies’ on track yesterday were actually paying out on a fifth place which is always good to see).

First Cape Cross x Carry On Katie offspring is a colt that’s been named Charles Dickens. Now two-years-old and while there’s no word as to who will be training him this year all signs point to Godolphin.

Personally I think there’s worse shouts than Henderson’s seemingly-third choice Punjabi. Yes he’s get all the trends under the sun to swerve to win this but it looks like he’s been readied for this after his hardly-disgraceful reappearance in the Christmas Hurdle. He’s hardly got the worst claimer on board and at his current odds he’s a better each-way shout than most..

Obviously DJ’s not enough of a wallah to get a job on RUK.. :P
Seriously though Colin, I’d love to see Celtic Son find his love for the game once again and although it might happen, he may very well be one of the many, as you suggest, that ‘look decent’ on their chasing debuts but in the end aspire to little. It does happen a lot, even with the owners with the seemingly blank cheque books!

The tit (possibly Chapman) on ATR actually spoke about Pipe having a bad birthday because Celtic Son had been ‘claimed out of the yard’ – I’d be dancing on the streets if I was Pipe that I’d got rid of such a horse out of his esrablishments – and I’m betting David Johnson was surprised to get £7,000 for him in the end. Unfortunately, don’t be surprised if the horse (who quite clearly hates the game and should be left to enjoy life in a field somewhere) isn’t back out in a matter of weeks having been claimed by the aptly-named Leeches..

It’s unsurprising but a wholly disappointing move all the same Gus. The three-day ‘festival’ that existed up until now was in my eyes, second only to Royal Ascot in terms of class of racing over the meeting as a whole. Unfortunately it’s going to be a massively diluted affair from now on (there’s no way it’ll go back to being three days after this).
The Group 3 Strensall Stakes has been the only ‘replacement’ race announced so far but I’d put my house on there being at least two sprint handicaps..

Completely agree with the suggestion that the opening preview is too long, though all the analysis in it is a good read and most of all interesting, it could probably do with being spread out over the paper, or the opening few pages at least. The time ordered race cards innovation works well, particularly the quick-pick Scoop6 lists – handy today particularly!
I’ve a strong feeling many readers will bypass the form pullout..
The ‘at-a-glance’ section is unnecessary repeated information. Personally I think the page should be used for a more prominent winner finders/stats/trends section (incorporating the ten year trends section on page 8, winner finders bit on page 37 and keeping the A-Z of runners list).
The short but punchy sport section works well.
In all though a hugely encouraging first issue and I shall certainly be buying it again. I’ve no doubt the proof in the pudding for most of the readers that will have bought the paper today will come in the amount of winners the team can pick between them over the weekend!

After the problems of the last week, here’s hoping they don’t have any problems with the ground on Town Moor. They have said they are watering there and if so, any puns involving the unfortunately-named MD of the course Adam Waterworth will write themselves..

See my thread[/url:2ygysfns] from earlier this year on a lot of the views on here! Forget race fixing and lack of prize money, it’s one of the biggest problems racing has at the moment!

Seriously I’d have to go for Cheltenham as the top festival having never been to Goodwood though a lot of my acquitances have said how good it is. Agree with the Ebor festival at York and I’ve always liked the St Leger festival at Doncaster – I’ll be interested to see it in the new surroundings in September..

Woodman sadly died at Ashford Stud on Thursday night, he had sired over 100 stakes winners including of course Dinka Raja (dam of COK).. :(

The half-sister Pinkabout was one of the top lots in the recent July sales and went to breeder Seamus Kennedy who must be as big a fan of this progeny as me (he also has Carry On Ellie).
She will stay in training with Stan Moore until next year.
