Thanks folks, Its good to be here, have read some interesting and insightful views.
Motivator was a true derby horse, he done what he was bred and trained to do and romped home at epsom in fine style (i was on gypsy king but was happy to see such a performance).
Sir Percy on the otherhand won a terrible derby by a whisker from a maiden, a horse on his second start who arguably threw away certain victory, and a good horse who was given a terrible ride and who at the time looked to me like he was being run as a pacesetter for the ill-fated horatio nelson. If there had have been a good horse in this years derby field hed have romped home, it was hardly a great renewal. A decent pace would surely have put sir percy in his place, i reckon sir percy has all the hallmarks of agreat 1m2f horse but i dont rate his derby win one bit.

I am not a fan of the british triple crown as I firmly beleive that a horse is bred for a task, be it a derby bid, or sprinting or staying.

Its not an acheivement that i really rate as it relies on poor races and id rather have three great individual classics than 3 poor races and an overhyped horse.

Take Sir Percy for example, cleraly a 1mile/1m2f horse. If you took George washington and Sixties Icon out of the picture this season and suddenly its far from impossible that he could have done a trile crown. However, he didnt beat george washington in the guineas, he would never have beaten motivator in the derby and he most definitely wouldnt have beaten scorpion or sixties icon in the leger. Yet if hed won the TC everyone would be talking about the great sir percy in 30, 40 years time, what a farce!

Godolphin have the triple crown at the top of the agenda every year, obrien, however has a much better understanding of racing and campaigns his horses where they want to go to be at their best.

I think teofilo is a great horse and i reckon he’ll stay 1m2-1m4f next year almost guaranteed, remember that hes not as highly strung as refusetobend was and also that teofilo looks every part a middle distance horse physically. Thats why id be tempted to send him to the american triple crown (not done since seattle slew in 1977, i think)where hed have a great chance on everything ive seen so far.

Ive backed Teofilo at 25s for the 2007 derby but have backed the chapple-hyam horse HAMOODY at 33s for the 2000 guineas. Only fun bets though, as next years races are nothing to put the house on.

I’ve backed Teofilo on his debut against an odds on red rock canyon and have cfollowed him ever since but i didnt think he could beat HRE at 7f at this stage of the season, and with his smart middle distance pedigree im hopeful that he’ll be unstoppable next year at middle distances.

I think the 12-1 on him for epsom is still good value as it only represents him staying uninjured till next june, the chances of a smarter middle distance horse appearing between now and next year are very slim. I reckon that a step up to 1 mile for the criterium international would be ideal as he could just be switched off and then destroy them in the final few furlongs.

Teofilo has everything you could want from a horse and i wouldnt be surprised if he gets bolger a ticket into coolmore or a horrific offer of money from them.

HAMOODY is a horse who didnt impress many when he pulled every inch of the richmond stakes, but hes highly strung and such horses never want to see a lot of daylight early, i was very impressed with both of his starts to date and im hoping hes still well as he looks to have massive scope for improvement if switching off next time out. Everything has been quiet with him but hopefully he’ll return for the dewhurst.

I didnt think there was anything really wrong with fallons ride. I thought he gave him a terrible ride in the previous irish leger.
When yeats was at his best in middle distance races in his ballysax/derrinstown and coronation cup days he stuck to the front and powered it out. So i was surprised in the 2005 leger when fallon rode him like he might not stay and met trouble in running, but because of that i said that he should never have been so short for the 2006 leger. I had a little e/w on percussionist and fracas. When they both faded and then yeats got beat by a horse from behind i instantly suspected that the gallop was too fast but it was actually slow.

Really what i think has happened is that they have clearly done alot of work with yeats, teaching him to stay, and i think that as a result his topspeed and cruising speed have suffered, he did have the rest of the field well beaten though and its possible that kastoria ran the race of her life as she always looked like travelling strongest of all. I didnt think yeats looked particularly unhappy though and didnt think fallons ride was too bad either, its just racing really and these things do happen, at the time it happened though i couldnt really understand what i was seeing – Yeats seemingly going well and a filly going better without even being ridden.
