reet hard – For the record, contrary to your post, Timeform rated Cape Blanco’s King George run 10lb below his Irish Champion rating and 3lb below his Irish Derby rating.

They went a stronger pace in this year’s Betfair, which to some extent explains the time anomaly, although Alan’s wider point may well be valid.

As for Timeform, the C&H essay this year on Rambling Minster says that ‘the [Haydock] obstacles do not test jumping to anything like the same extent as the old ones and were especially soft at the mixed meeting…’ before going on to report Paul Nicholls’ criticisms of the ground there last year.

I think that’s the sort of critique you’d expect of us and one that could easily have been left out if we had an agenda as implied above.

    Regards, Kieran (Timeform).

I can see your general point, but for the record D Nicholls has had 53 winners this year compared to Michael Jarvis’s 37 and William Jarvis’s horrendous 4.

Timeform 1-0 Zee Zoo it would seem.

I’d say that the Betfair in-running highs and lows that are carried on the Timeform free site are about as useful a free resource as you can find anywhere.

Adopting your logic firefox, I take it you weren’t convinced Raven’s Pass was a Group-quality three-year-old until Saturday, as he’d previously failed to win a Group race this year.

To use another sport, presumably Lewis Hamilton’s string of podium finishes failed to convince you he was a world-class driver. Once he won one though…

‘The opportunities for laying Irish trained horses at the festival at crazy low prices is always to be looked forward to’

In terms of placed horses, the Irish return at the 2006 Festival was vastly superior to their numerical representation at the meeting. Assessing the value of said horses is, of course, a more objective process.

Timeform Raceline has made a profit at SP over 4 years dave jay.

Seems absurd to suggest tipsters CANNOT make it pay long-term, they are just glorified punters and, by your logic, no punters can make a profit either.

jackane – Surely time has shown that suggesting ‘Stoute has got no major hopes for next year’ in October is folly. Any number of his top three year olds have shown little (or barely been seen) in their juvenile campaigns.

‘If he were not so busy racing, Kieren would spend his spare time on the golf course, perfecting his swing!’

Presumably he’s playing off scratch now then.<br>

It must be remembered that the squiggle means ‘unreliable’ and not always ‘ungenuine’ as Alner alludes to in the article. I think it’s perfectly fair to call to him unreliable, given he’s run to form once in his last five starts and it’s very hard to predict what sort of performance we’ll see next time he runs.
