Every stalls handler and member of stable staff.

Lord and Lady Oaksey and Jack Berry and his wife for all they have done for the IJF.

Derek Thompson has me wincing at times, but no other commentator does more to supply those interesting little snippets of info that add colour to the race you are watching. He’s bumbling at times, he’s sentimental and he mentions that he beat Prince Charles on a very regular basis, but I’m glad we have him to add colour to the sport. We only need one of him, but I wouldn’t be without him for anything.

Clare Balding. Like Thommo, does all that is possible to get Joe Public engaged and interested in what they are watching.

Ryan Moore’s face told that he felt he was hard done by, but Pour Moi – well, to win when the jockey is pulling you up! It would have been awful for his connections if he had lost the race on the line. I hope Mickael Barzalona never does that again though….. but I bet he does!

A great trainer like Fabre deserved to win it at least once, I’m pleased, for him.

As a non-better, I was pleased to see Geordieland put his best hoof forward after all the horrible things he was called last year. The Ascot Gold Cup should be interesting – it usually is!

There was a clip of Shania used on Before They Were Famous and trust me, her teeth were very similar to Liam’s.

I know you can’t believe everything you see on TV or read on the Net, however:-

Fact 11 in the Shania Twain Biography is this:- 11. As a kid, two of Shania’s teeth never grew – so she had terrible gaps between them.

From another website: She probably wears false teeth because on a special called behind the music on VHI, they showed a childhood photo of her with a guitar and she had uneven teeth, no lie

She’s got a damn good dentist.

(You are right about Celine Dion also having rubbishy teeth, though!)

Wasn’t it Sainsbury’s that used to sell – maybe still does – boxes of guaranteed double – yolked eggs? I hope your hens don’t suffer ‘burnout,’ Marko…

I asked a question about openly gay jockeys in another forum chat and some names were supplied – my interest being spurred by the fact that being perceived as homophobic is harmful to the image of any sport.

Returning to Liam Treadwell, if you’ve ever seen an ‘early days’ video of Shania Twain she had the same teeth. If you look at her now….

One thing is for certain – nobody will ever forget that Liam rode a National winner. My own view at the time was that the normally personable and articulate Liam was stunned into relative inarticulacy, Clare Balding had run out of things to say and in the heat of the moment opened mouth before putting brain in gear, not realising how it was going to come across. I’ve always valued Clare as a presenter – I particularly enjoyed her Paralympics coverage.

When National jockeys are talked about some don’t seem to come to mind as readily as others. My guess is, that like Mick Fitzgerald, Liam Treadwell’s will be one of the first that comes to mind in the future. I hope he’s also remembered for the great ride he gave Mon Mome!

A horse doesn’t get a name like that without being a really loveable character. I’d spotted his name and it always made me smile. RIP and condolences to his connections.
