Has Roy gone yet ……….?
has Fred got the Tote yet ?

Your DNA must cry itself to sleep at night, Ricky.

Which reminds me, a hearty pat on the back to everyone at The Racing Forum for giving miserable gits such as the above as much chance to spout their usual drivel as I have to spout my usual drivel.
If the sport depresses you so, take up knitting.

It doesn’t matter what positive threads you start Cormack 15 the are some people who just like a moan. Really gets you down people like this.

Anyway the people who does a great job, are :
Stall handlers and ground staff,
Saint John’s Ambulance people (looking after the jockeys and anyone else),
Vets and RSPCA people (looking after the horses),
Stable staff of the individual runners,
Caterers for feeding people (even people who moan),
Cleaners for cleaning those losing tickets (Mess caused by the likes of those who moan)(Probably on minimum wage too).June 1, 2011 at 19:26 #358259People who do a great Job.
Henry Cecil
Vets
Matt Chapman
Nick Luck
Simon Holt
James Willoughby
June 1, 2011 at 20:11 #358264Agree with Matt Chapman nomination – ATR has the recipe to be tedious at times- low budget, guy in a booth, race after race after race of low grade action. But MC brings it to life with humour and a bit of swagger. Knowledgable and also asks difficult questions/voices strong opinions (whether you agree with them or not is immaterial really).
June 1, 2011 at 20:15 #358266Oh incredibly tedious…incredibly tedious. I not sure about RUK i don’t have it but i assume its the same. Could do with a big shake up to get things moving.
June 1, 2011 at 20:36 #358271hah …
see what being Devils advocate does …..Actually its a good thread and I agree with many of the posts , personally my hero’s are the stable staff who do one hell of a job for love , cos it sure aint for money
BTW thanks Anthony I can always rely on you to be consistent
Keep it coming
Ricky

He is to British Racing what Coolmore is to Irish Racing. Where the stream of horses is becoming more and more inferior in Britain compared to France and a Lesser extent Ireland. He is the only chap keeping British Racing up at the top. Without him you don’t have Midday/Workforce/Frankel leaving Top Class British Racehorse very very thin on the ground.
June 1, 2011 at 23:06 #358301Well, I know we’re never going to get a sober, dispassionate commentary; getting the adrenaline flowing is apparently the aim. The BBC initiated it years ago, and it seems to please most people. Most of all the bookies, I expect.
So, having resigned myself to the inevitable, I’ve actually begun to really enjoy one of the loopiest, cheerleading commentator of them all: Lee Mckenzie. When he calls out, "They’re off!", his crazy enthusiasm is infectious. He reminds me of Stewart Hall, when he used to compere It’s A Knockout! Though Stewart sounded at least half-cut most of the time, as well.
Having a relay of Lee, Stewart and Thommo to commentate the Derby would be something. But, I fear, like Freddie Starr publicly accepting his trophy as owner of the Grand National winner, Minnehoma – which he didn’t – it would never happen. It wouldn’t have served Freddie’s purposes NOT to throw in a few pratfalls, while it would have been anathema to the "grand", not to say, "national" nature of the occasion.
June 2, 2011 at 00:26 #358312Could not sing Nick Luck’s praises enough, absolutely brilliant at what he does and a really nice guy too.
Also every jockey to come out of Venetia Williams yard, Liam Tredwell, Sam Thomas, Aidan Coleman, unfailingly polite and not bad riders either, espec. Coleman. So her, and the aforementioned who are an absolute credit to her.
Tony McCoy needs no explanation. Geraghty is a absolute gent too. He’s not the best rider in the world but Will Kennedy is bloody lovely. Basically, any of the jumps boys.
I also think very very highly of Henry Cecil
Paul Nolan just makes me laugh, and trains Joncol.

Many trainers
Lots of jockeys
Most Grooms
Almsot every Stall Handler
A whole range of nameless faceless peopleJune 4, 2011 at 15:54 #358879Every stalls handler and member of stable staff.
Lord and Lady Oaksey and Jack Berry and his wife for all they have done for the IJF.
Derek Thompson has me wincing at times, but no other commentator does more to supply those interesting little snippets of info that add colour to the race you are watching. He’s bumbling at times, he’s sentimental and he mentions that he beat Prince Charles on a very regular basis, but I’m glad we have him to add colour to the sport. We only need one of him, but I wouldn’t be without him for anything.
Clare Balding. Like Thommo, does all that is possible to get Joe Public engaged and interested in what they are watching.
