I’d like to lay Judge to half my original investment (ie 5 points) at 80s.<br>
Just to warn everybody that there is a 2nd closing stage for the Derby on April 5th. It costs 8,000 pounds but is usually quite popular and I’d expect to see a few more added to the list.
Betfair don’t mention this date in their blurb.

HJ, I’d suggest the answer to your question is Papillon. The last race he won before his National triumph was the Newlands Chase over 2m and his only subsequent success was in the Dial-A-Bet at Leopardstown over 2m 1f.
I’m pretty much in agreement though really and just needed an excuse to ask why you’ve changed your avatar!
Thanks David – as soon as I read my own posting I realised my error!
I love the race and its one of the highlights of the meeting for me – although I can see that the form can be inscrutible for anybody not familiar with pointing in England and Ireland.
It does give you a chance to see old favourites (Earthstopper etc) and some new up and comers.
I can see your issue regarding horses trained by licensed trainers and I for one cheer on the "proper" pointers.
The reason it follows the Gold Cup is for PR reasons like the ladies race following the King George at Ascot.
It enables the professionals, particularly the winning jockey, concerned in the finish of the Gold Cup to receive their prizes and then do press conferences/media interviews without having to rush off to weigh out for the next.

I’m with Tooting and Cormack on this – totally deserved award although, as he is still so prolific, it could have waited a few more years.
He was certainly the soundtrack to my life through school and into my first years of employment in the early 80’s.
I loved everything he produced as The Jam and Style Council and like quite a bit of his more recent output.
All Mod Cons probably my favourite album but a thumbs up to the often under rated Sounds Affects (That’s Entertainment, Pretty Green, Start…)
I saw The Jam in concert many times including the last one at Wembly which was great although my ears had been blown the support band – Big Country!
Its refreshing that he doesn’t rely on his impressive back catalogue and doesn’t seem to enjoy playing anything that isn’t contemporary.
Now the only other person who I would like to see similarly recognised is Elvis Costello.
On the subject of The Jam have you noticed Mr Smithers-Jones won on the all-weather for Stuart Williams and is now jumping with Dr Pritchard?
Insomniac,
Larry Gelb’s Great Host won the Chester Vase and Great Voltigeur in 1967, although he was well beaten in the Derby and St. Leger. He was trained by Paddy Prendergast and was a son of Abermaid who had won the 1,000gns in 1962. I can’t make out his silks but they had light and dark hooped sleeves – possibly the yellow and blue to which you refer.
A few classics from the 2005 Breeders’ Cup:
Madeleine Pickens (widow of Allen "Cigar" Paulson) has married Billionaire oilman T Bone Pickens and their colours on Rock Hard Ten were:
Black and Red jagged halves, four aces emblem (playing cards), black cap
George Krikorian (who owns movie theatres in California) and had Hollywood Story in the Distaff:
Raspberry, film strip emblem, film strip on yellow hoop on blue sleeves, raspberry, blue and yellow cap
Tom Baxter (Nebraska cattle dealer) who had Fourty Niners Son in the Turf:
Red, white steer head and Bar Lazy "U", red diamond stripe and cuffs on white sleeves, red cap
I like the plain colours particularly Lord Derby’s Black with white cap, the Howard de Walden’s Apricot, Duke of Devonshire’s straw and Mrs Magnier’s 2nd colours of Pink.
Already done my money on Chantelle at 17’s. Thought she was certain to be evicted on Sunday night but unfortunately I’d not allowed for the gallantry of the younger men in the group.
Jodie is getting all the negative feedback on the forums which are usually a good indicator of public opinion – they are usually the people who can be bothered to vote!
Why do Ladbrokes have "any other" to win the competition as only a 4/1 shot. This is so much shorter than any other firms – are they friends with Endamol?

I’ve just come in and realised that Windsor is off.
Therefore I’ve only got one reserve at Lingfield in play.
I’m not sure of the rules but if allowed I’ll add a couple more reserves to bring me to 5 runners:
