Could be the same ones Mr Frisk’s nominating …. but my favourite silks were the Oh So Risky colours, which I’m sure, were of a patchwork quilt variety.
Not “classicâ€ÂÂ
January 18, 2006 at 14:44 #68420Sheikh Ahmed – plenty of yellow, my favourite colour :)
Also the late Sheikh Maktoum’s were another favourite, alongside the Cheveley Park colours. Like DB such combinations give me the impression of a decent race.
Over jumps I used to love the red and yellow colours Moorcroft Boy used to carry. He was my favourite horse when I was younger and so the silks just become synonymous with that.
January 18, 2006 at 14:51 #68421Seem to have spent most of my adult life fondly following around these sets of silks;
White, royal blue spots, purple sleeves and cap.
Red, blue hoop, red sleeves, blue hoops, Red cap, blue hoop.

what were the chances of that happening?

January 18, 2006 at 15:37 #68424I don’t really have a favourite set of silks as such although I get a buzz from seeing a race with all the top owners being represented (Goldophin, Magnier, Khallid Abdullah, Chevley Park, Aga Khan, etc) Really gives the impression of a top-class race.
I’d agree with that.
As I live in the land of gaff racing, I don’t get to see them much in the UK.
However, I remember the first time I went racing in France and seeing the "colours from the telly" (Sheikh Mo, K Abdulla, Aga Khan, Niarchos etc), was pretty exciting for me.
A pretty pathetic admission, I guess.
However, when I go to Paris and see these colours, I still get that buzz that makes me feel like I’m watching <br>"proper racing".

Oh So Risky did indeed carry "crazy quilt". I believe the colours were so named because they were originally registered to a member of The Crazy Gang, a bunch of comedians so ancient they predate even me. The truly geriatric members of the forum may be able to help out here, so long as its not past time for their medication.
I think they’d been dormant for quite a while before the Oh So Risky syndicate revived them. Not sure if they still have them, though I did catch sight of them on a horse at Plumpton about four years ago.
January 18, 2006 at 23:49 #68426On the flat I’ve always liked Sheikh Mohammad’s maroon & white colours & Sheikh Hamdan’s blue & white (Dayjur, Nashwan, Salsabil).
Also, I like the colours that were carried famously by Cigar & Arazi.
Over the jumps, I liked the colours carried by Waterloo Boy & Another Coral. Plus, the colours carried by Large Action as well.

Wonder which silks Aiden likes best?
January 19, 2006 at 11:10 #68428A few classics from the 2005 Breeders’ Cup:
Madeleine Pickens (widow of Allen "Cigar" Paulson) has married Billionaire oilman T Bone Pickens and their colours on Rock Hard Ten were:
Black and Red jagged halves, four aces emblem (playing cards), black cap
George Krikorian (who owns movie theatres in California) and had Hollywood Story in the Distaff:
Raspberry, film strip emblem, film strip on yellow hoop on blue sleeves, raspberry, blue and yellow cap
Tom Baxter (Nebraska cattle dealer) who had Fourty Niners Son in the Turf:
Red, white steer head and Bar Lazy "U", red diamond stripe and cuffs on white sleeves, red cap
I like the plain colours particularly Lord Derby’s Black with white cap, the Howard de Walden’s Apricot, Duke of Devonshire’s straw and Mrs Magnier’s 2nd colours of Pink.
January 19, 2006 at 11:53 #68429JP’s or the Aga Khan are very nice.Michael Smurfits are pretty cool. I hate the Queen-s Colours too.
January 19, 2006 at 11:58 #68430Which owner was it who used to run horses in a dark (brownish, I think) jersey with a white question mark? I seem to remember a horse called Tabasco Time running in these at a Festival yonks ago, but the details are sketchy in my head to say the least.
Always thought that was quite an unusual set of colours, that’s all.

January 19, 2006 at 12:02 #68431John Mulhern’s colours were red with a white question mark ~ he owned and trained dual stayers’ hurdle winner Galmoy.
January 19, 2006 at 14:25 #68432I always thought the colour’s carried by one of the heroes of my youth,Cool Ground, looked very smart. A combination of blue and bright yellow, very eye catching. Can’t recall the name of the owner at the minute but I think he subsequently owned the more than useful Absalom’s Lady.
January 19, 2006 at 16:39 #68433Peter Bolton had those colours, under the umbrella of Whitcombe Manor Racing Stables, the stunningly expensive private training establishment in Dorset ~ virtually half the trainers in the country were set up as private handlers for Bolton at Whitcombe ~ Richard Mitchell, Reg Akehurst, Toby Balding, Gay Kelleway, Roland O’Sullivan and Martin Weeden all holding the reins at some stage, but none ever really happy and seemingly desperate to move on fairly quickly.
January 19, 2006 at 19:25 #68434Well done Irisheyes for a novel topic that has had me thinking back over nearly 40 years remembering silks that have happy memories for me.<br>My favourite would be the Moller silks – Chocolate, gold braid and sleeves, qtd cap. These silks have been prominent on the flat for all of my time following the sport.  Their animals have all been trained by the Wraggs (Harry and Geoff) – my idea of the ideal flat trainer.<br>Also liked Larry Gelb’s colours from the late 60’s, early 70’s. Can’t remember exactly what they were (predominatley Blue, Yellow and White). He had horses in training with Paddy Prendergast (Great Host – Gp 3 animal being the only one I can remember at the moment).

One of Flanagan and Allen had them IIRC and I think that Bill Marshall may have been the trainer for whichever it was. I think they may have been in the Marshall family which is how Oh So Risky ended up running in those colours.
