Peregrine Run – JLT 50’s
I think that he’s an interesting entry for this, considering he didn’t get an entry for any of the other Novice Chases. He’s something of a forgotten horse, but assuming all is well with him, and he hasn’t had a setback, it could just be that he’s been kept for the better spring ground. I also think he’s perfect for The Close Bros Novices, as I think he’s way ahead of his mark, but the 33’s NRNB, and 50’s here is fairly tempting. He didn’t quite deliver the goods in The Coral Cup, but his summer fencing campaign last year was very encouraging, and he’s very high on my shortlist here.Ordinary World – Champion Chase 50’s
I thought that he would make a proper race of it in The Dublin Chase, but for that last fence mishap, and though I was probably wrong in my initial assumption that he may have won it, there’s no getting away from the fact that he was in the process of running a huge race. I always thought Grand Annual for him, but having placed in The Arkle, I don’t see any reason why he can’t challenge for a place here. Connections openly admitted before The Arkle that he’d be ridden for a place, and I can see a repeat of those tactics. A very underrated horse, and the 50’s is a smashing each way price.Edwulf – Gold Cup 25’s
Brute of a horse, who can surely only improve for that win in The Irish Gold Cup. The only horse who made a race of it in The National Hunt Chase last year behind an untouchable Tiger Roll, and though he wouldn’t have won before his seizure, he did little wrong either. Certainly had jumping issues in the past, but he was assured the last twice. The 125’s available on him Sunday morning for Leapordstown was crazy stuff, and I also think the 25’s for him here is crazy. There was a thread recently for horses who’re always underrated and go off at bigger odds, the ones who don’t quite grab peoples attention. He might just be made for that thread…….I’d like to know what odds the others would be for The Gold Cup, if they had just won The Leapordstown trial. No Comment – National Hunt Chase 25’s
Happy enough with his run in The Martin Pipe last year, and he then went very close at the big Spring meetings at Aintree, and Punchestown. No shame in finding Fountains Windfall too good at Aintree, and he ran a stormer at Punchestown. Absolutely nothing wrong with seasonal debut in The Scilly Isles, and he’s a strong facny for me at 25’s.John Constable – Champion Hurdle 66’s
Vastly improved horse the last 12 months, finally showing the potential I always thought he had. Smashing run behind Buveur D’Air at the weekend, getting closer than he was entitled to, and though I’d expect the margin between the pair to be even bigger on the 13th March, the (anticipated) better Spring ground could easily see him make the frame. Not a vintage renewal by the look of things, and that 66’s is a working mans each way price.Bleu Et Rouge – County Hurdle 25’s
A lot will depend on how he fares at Newbury tomorrow, but he’s on a tidy mark at the moment, the trainer targets the race, the owner targets the race, and he remains very unexposed. 25’s looks mad, and 20’s NRNB if you want it.Kayf Grace – Mares Hurdle 20’s
Another who has a big day ahead of her at Newbury. Big fan of this horse, and actually bet her for The Champion Hurdle this year. Wee bit wide of the mark but this one, but we clearly haven’t seen the best of her yet, and looks one of the few with the potential to put it up to Apples Jade. Looks a realistic each way price at the moment.February 9, 2018 at 12:57 #1341382Agree on No Comment VTC. I already have him backed at a nice price. I believe hes JPs only entry in the race, so theres a good chance we can get one of the top amateurs onboard.
February 9, 2018 at 14:00 #1341390Yeah Sprinter, the fact he’s JP’s only entry is good news as well. Good luck mate.

As you know am on Presenting Percy for this race at 33’s (posted in novice chasers thread) but looking increasingly unlikely he’ll run here. Have added No Comment at 20/1 NRNB. As you say he ran well at the three big spring festivals last year, with the step up to three miles bringing about improvement. JP’s only entry with the possibility of further improvement for another step up in trip here.
Lack of chasing experience an obvious negative but have been looking for an alternative to Percy here and none of the Irish novices stand out. I thought Jury Duty looked legless last time, while Moulin A Vent’s jumping is a concern – if he runs a similar race next time the race will be over by the time he gets going. Mossback and Fagan are more interesting for Elliott than Monbeg Notorious for me, who has been so effective on heavy you’d be worried about him on decent ground, granted he won a maiden hurdle on good. Mall Dini is interesting but I think the handicap route, specifically the Kim Muir, could tempt connections, and like him for that race at 14/1.
February 9, 2018 at 22:34 #1341482I think cantlow at 14/1 or 16/1 for the cross country is good value
February 10, 2018 at 01:16 #1341510Cheers Tommy, everything crossed here, him or Fagan would keep me happy, and not forgetting a few quid I have on Mall Dini myself at 25’s (edit, had totally forgotten about him), though will be something of a saver, compared to Fagan, and No Comment.
February 10, 2018 at 02:18 #1341517The Champion Hurdle looks like the one of the weakest ever, apart from B D’air. Wicklow Brave 20-1 NRNB will surely be good enough for a place
February 10, 2018 at 07:59 #1341530The Storyteller 20’s NRNB Martin Pipe
Should be off the same mark as he would of raced off last year, when he was very strongly fancied for this race. Looks like he has improved over fences a few pounds so could be handicapped even better over hurdles.
Could run in about 6 races
February 18, 2018 at 16:59 #1342943The same choice for me Botchy
Ultima – Noble Endeavour 25-1
NH Chase – Phils Magic 66-1
NH Chase – Mossback 20-1Cross Country – Cantlow 20-1
Brown Advisory Plate – Polidam 20-1
Gold Cup – Anibale Fly 40-1
Martin Pipe – The Storyteller 20-1
February 18, 2018 at 23:09 #1342988Paisley park wants every inch of the 3m that he’ll finally get in the AB. There’s been very little between a lot of the staying novices and at 25/1 he looks a bit too long to ignore & I think he’ll love coming late up the hill to tough it out
Crooks peak was put away by Hobbs after winning Chelt bumper early in the season and he also looks a big price at 25/1 to do it again in the champion bumper. Love a horse that has proven Chelt winning form in the book, and there are holes in all of the shorter priced horses here
February 27, 2018 at 22:31 #1344276Close Brothers Novices
Jameson 33-1
Le Rocher 33-1County Hurdle
Mohaayed 33-1February 27, 2018 at 23:31 #1344279I believe the following are overpriced and represent value
Stayers – Lil Rockerfella 25/1
Supreme – Sharjah 16/1
Champion Hurdle – Melon without Buveur Dair 7/1
Triumph – Stormy Ireland – 7/1
Champion Chase – Politologue – 10/1
Gold Cup – Bachasson – 50/1February 28, 2018 at 01:00 #1344287Claimentakinforgan 14/1 for the Supreme; Nicky’s only entry. Ignore the Musselburgh run.
February 28, 2018 at 17:13 #1344358Agree JJM
I was gobsmacked at how poor he ran at Musselburgh
Hendo wouldn’t be running him if he felt that was his true formGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 1, 2018 at 23:11 #1344490Elgin has been supplemented for the Champion Hurdle and is a huge price for a horse who has done nothing wrong all season. If we find ourselves with a soft ground Cheltenham; I see no reason why he can’t go close.
Lil Rockefeller is another big price. Clearly isn’t wanting for pace with his recent efforts over shorter and will see the trip out better than most. The New One and Unowhatimeanharry are also very big prices and are well worth a look.
Special Tiara loves him some Cheltenham in the Spring and is cast iron to be in the placings again. Altior will be very hard to beat, but these things can happen and last years Champion Chase victory was no fluke.
Harry The Viking is an intriguing entry in the cross country and is very appealing at the odds. Will definitely stay and should take to the challenge. Not so sure the market principles are as well handicapped as they have been in more recent renewals and old timers can come to life here.
Edwulf is a ridiculous price. Clearly a very classy sort and one who’ll really benefit from a deluge. He and Double Shuffle are very good each way propositions.
March 2, 2018 at 14:49 #1344558Nicky to win the CH, Triumph, spuds and gc 50/1. If Buveur wins, he then has a couple of runners in 2 of the remaing 3 races. It’s more for a bit of an interest. Not one to get carried away with.
March 4, 2018 at 18:11 #1344774JETT 25/1 Close Brothers Chase
Has run well behind some good horses in grade Ones and Jessie doesn’t send em over unless they have a chance!
BURBANK 20/1 Coral Cup
Ran well behind Jenkins last time out and ran well in the Neptune last year behind Willoughby Court.
GREY WATERS 33/1 Fred Winter
If young OB sends this one over it won’t start this price!
