Good Night Shirt’s career-ending injury was another big one. 7 consecutive wins before that. He was just starting to get attention outside of the steeplechasing world. He was just 8 years old when he retired.

Remittance Man falling in the Champion Chase, after looking every bit as good as ever when winning his comeback in the Emblem.

Dato Star never getting soft ground in either of his Champion Hurdle runs.

    :(

On hearing that Le Volfoni had to be put down after being kicked by another horse whilst they were out in the field enjoying summer grass.

Gloria Victis who i’m convinced would have turned on the afterburners to win the 2000 Gold Cup but sadly had a fatal fall and we were robbed of a future star.

Speaking purely through the pocket when Sir Rembrandt won the rehearsal chase in 2003 I was deeply impressed and backed him for the 2004 Gold Cup. He was declared a non runner by the trainer a few weeks before the Gold Cup and was trading at 800/1 on Betfair. I thought what the hell and had £20 on. I ending up listening to the race on my car radio as I could not get the day off and listening to the commentary I thought he was going to get up and win it.

Brigadier Gerard being beaten in the Benson & Hedges Stakes.
Nijinsky being beaten in the Arc de Triomphe,
The shrinking of the bloodstock gene pool. Kempton’s turf & Haydock loosing it’s permanent fences.

Still missing National Hunt racing at Nottingham, what a superb track this was. I hope one day that both Notts and Royal Windsor will put this right.

Rule 4s i hate them!! got a double up a couple of months ago, 20 euro win double, both horses won comfartably by several lenghts!! backed them at 6/1 and 8/1 respectively however both favourites were taken out before the start and where both quite short in the betting, should of won around 1,300 euro but only got around 450. two 45p rule 4 deductions, head was wrecked   , especially considering when you do a double and the sp is bigger than the price you take you dont get the bigger sp as with a single stake!! stingy bookies!! other disapointment that does my head in is stupid jockies who give horses to much to do, keep them far too off the pace and out the back during the race only for the horse to pass the field in the final furlong but not win although they would of won had the line been a further inch away!! happens every day, best horses getting beat by dumb jockies and hold up tactics!!
