Well, Call The Police has made it to The RSA. He’s done nothing wrong this season, and I think he’s got a better chance than his odds suggest. I’m fairly hopeful of a decent show from him. Fingers Crossed.
Consigliere has made it as well, but not, as hoped, to The Plate. He runs in The Coral Cup instead. Not, on the face of it, an obvious target…………but with Pipe putting a 10lb claimer on board, and his obvious liking for Cheltenham, well, could be interesting.
Had a small e/w double @ 18’s and 40’s. With Astracad due to run on Friday, I stuck him in an ew Trixie with them.
Hopefully Ipsos Du Berlais, and Shoegazer will make it too.
Great performance by Call The Police, finishing 3rd, with 2 pretty useful ones in front of him, I knew he could go close. Obviously the win would have been nice, but very, very happy to see him in the frame.
Consigliere was pretty laboured. Didn’t travel like he usually does round Cheltenham, and knew my fate halfway down the back straight. Some hard races probably catching up with him.
March 16, 2012 at 00:48 #397122Got 3 of em running tomorrow.
First up is Ipsos Du Berlais in the Albert Bartlett. I’ve got his Gigginstown companion, Sea of Thunder, in a few ante-post lines which are still going, so I’d really prefer him to come in, but I think Ipsos could surprise a few tomorrow. He’s been very impressive this season, and wouldn’t surprise me to see him spring a shock.
Pateese runs in The Martin Pipe Hurdle. He’s become quite frustrating, and unless this target is part of an elaborate plot, he’s been given some strange tasks this season. This’ll come very soon after his run on Saturday, so it’ll be some effort to go close. Hope he gives a good account, and lands a place. 33’s seems about right though.
Astracad runs in the Grand Annual. He’s been a great success this season, and deserves his place near the top of the market. Not much else to add, other than, expecting a very good show.
March 17, 2012 at 00:36 #397362Great performance from Pateese today, seemed to improve dramatically for being held up a bit more. Very pleasing.
As for Ipsos & Astracad, they were very, very disappointing, no obvious excuses either.
Shoegazer makes a belated return at Ffos Las tomorrow. He’s won there before, he’s available at 12’s just now, and that seems a fair price.
Shoegazer, was, of course, running at Uttoxeter. Ran respectably enough, holding on for third, hopefully he’ll be fitter next time.
March 23, 2012 at 09:49 #398123Romulus D’Artaix steps up to 3 miles at Newbury today in the 1550, after his win there last time out. He’s taken a hit for that run, but I’m fairly hopeful he can go close today. I’ve actually bet him today, so he’d better!!!
Despite being beaten a good distance, was a lot happier with him than I was at Warwick, definitely a couple more races in him. Apart from one slight mistake, jumped really well.
March 24, 2012 at 08:38 #398247Like Romulus D’Artaix, Storming Gale’s looking to follow up from a win last time out, he runs in the 1520 @ Bangor. Looks up against it according to the market, the outsider of 4. At the very least, I hope he finally manages to put in a decent round of jumping. Not a forlorn hope if he can stay error free. Big if though!
Very disappointing performance yesterday, always struggling in rear before being pulled up.
March 30, 2012 at 19:02 #398823Hillview Boy
Don’t have many I like to look out for on the flat, but one that I do is Hillview Boy. Runs on the all-weather at Kempton tomorrow, and bound to be little bit rusty, don’t really know what to expect to be honest, he’s certainly entitled to need this.
He’s been very, very good to me in the past, and caught him a few times for generous e/w returns. He’s as big as 33’s for this tomorrow, so I’ll have to have a little interest.
Ran probably, as expected, struggled to get into it, and well beaten, but certainly hopeful of better once he returns to turf.
April 1, 2012 at 11:54 #399028Fabalu runs in the 1440 @ Ascot.
His win at Bangor was very encouraging. Got a niggling feeling that something will pick him off today, but I’d be delighted if he could in another decent round. I hope he continues to improve, and just happy that he’s still running. Entered for The Topham, and a good show here might just see him head for it. Not convinced the frantic pace of The Topham on good ground would be ideal, but his jumping has always looked as if it would stand the test of Aintree. Certainly know more after today.
Prince of Pirates
Runs at Ascot today in a 3 horse race. He’s a horse I think could establish himself as a very decent staying chaser over the next few season.
He’s entered for "The Whitbread", and I can just see AP fighting with him down the back @ Sandown, before bringing him for a later run. Don’t know if that’s a serious consideration, but I’d think it would suit. I’ve thrown a few quid at him for it anyway just in case.
Would be the first time I’ve bet a horse for The Champion Hurdle, and The Whitbread in the same season.

Fabalu ran his heart out, just missing out close to home. Another very good round of jumping.
On the face of it, Prince of Pirates was disappointing, but, having said that, I still think he needs a trip, and would be suited by The Whitbread.
April 8, 2012 at 09:19 #399671Call The Police runs in The Powers Gold Cup. He’s been excellent this season, and still doesn’t get the credit he deserves. It’s easier to say now after his 3rd in the RSA, I had more money on him for that, than I’ve had on any other horse for one race. I made him him favourite, but he just fell short. Was still delighted with him though. It’s a tough race today, but he deserves a big one.
Very disappointing, however drift before the race told it’s own story. He’s a lot better than that. In hindsight, he may not take that much racing. He’s relatively lightly raced for his age, and his form dipped badly towards the end of last season too. Hopefully he’ll be put away until next season. Still a couple of good races in him.
April 9, 2012 at 23:00 #399838Much improved performance for Shoegazer today at Chepstow. Maybe not the big prize I had in mind at start of the season, but good to see him land one anyway.
April 12, 2012 at 11:01 #4001191615 Aintree. My biggest disappointment of Cheltenham was Astracad. He’s better than that, and hopefully he can show his real self today.
1725 Aintree. Quick turnaround for Shoegazer today. That’s obviously a bit of a concern, but I suppose Pipe wouldn’t be sending him if he wasn’t ready for it. Hopeful, more than confident of a good run. Not beyond him though.
Astracad was well beaten in the end, but at least showed more than last time. Beaten by a horse who is clearly going places, Edgardo Sol. Edgardo Sol, is very much one to keep on the right side of.
I said earlier in the thread, that I’d prefer to see Shoegazer over shorter. Lobbed away very nicely yesterday, but just ran out of steam over the 3. Maybe feeling Mondays race though I suppose, it was a big ask. Liked what I seen from him yesterday.
April 13, 2012 at 13:14 #400330Fabalu runs in The Topham. I’ve long wanted to see him over the National fences, and he finally gets his chance. I’d rather he didn’t go in this, as I’ve went right off this race in recent years, but I’m hoping he puts up a good show over the fences. He’ll be 11, but this should go a long way to showing his chances for The National next year, which I still think he’s tailor made for. One of my very favourites, just hope he comes home safe. Please.
Ipsos Du Berlais runs in the 1615. Ran no sort of race at Cheltenham, and I’m a bit surprised to see him at Aintree. Looks slightly overpriced to say the least though, and wouldn’t be a total shock if he grabbed a place. Still think he’s got bags of potential.
Fabalu looked as if he hated it, although this always seemed unsuitable. Glad he got round safe.
Ipsos ran a very respectable race to be 4th, surely chasing looms next season.
April 18, 2012 at 10:44 #401279Pateese runs at Cheltenham in the 1510. Still think 2 miles is his trip, but he’s over 2 and a half again today. He put in a very decent run at the Festival, and a repeat of that would surely see him go close.
Continued improvement from him, and a nice victory. Well, he’s bagged a couple for me this season, and a pleasant surprise to see him land one over 2 and a half in those conditions.
April 23, 2012 at 08:14 #401863Beau Dandy
Runs in 1500 at Hexham today. Watched him at a Point to Point last year, and he was the stand out horse on the day. Been watching him closely this season, and looks as if there’s a few races in him. Expect him to land a few races up North in the next couple of seasons. Think he could land this today.
Duke of Monmouth makes a belated re-appearance in the 1945 at Ffos Las tonight. Has a very well fancied Henderson horse to contend with, but I’m fairly confident that 3 miles will bring out the best in him, and will be disappointed if he doesn’t place.
Turned into too much of a slog for Beau Dandy, having travelled and jumped really well for the majority, finishing 3rd. Kept on at the end, but outfought by the front two. No concerns really, again, liked what I saw.
Duke of Monmouth, also got involved in a slog, in really testing conditions, finishing 2nd to the hot favourite. Still confident he’s gonna land a few in the coming seasons.
April 25, 2012 at 12:12 #402098Astracad runs in 1500 at Perth today, and hopefully he can justify his short price.
Ipsos Du Berlais runs in 1655 at Puchestown, weather permitting. Marked improvement last time, and if over that recent showing, looks to have a fair chance of placing at the very least. Few dangers lurking though, with the likes of Jetson and Sea of Thunder there too.
Astracad won as he should, but did show some signs of temperament. Looking forward to further progression next season from him.
Happy to forget the run from Ipsos in those conditions.
May 8, 2012 at 16:27 #403559Shoegazer won over fences last week at Hereford. Easy win, but was entitled to do so, 4-11 shot in a4 runner race. Enough encouragment from him to suggest he’ll land a few more novice races in the coming months.
Call The Police runs at Punchestown in the 1820. Got to put his last run behind him, but will be very disappointed if he doesn’t go close today.
Caducueus
Bet this one few weeks back at Fairyhouse, and he won very, very nicely. Really impresses with him. Didn’t know too much about him beforehand, he looks as if he’s been a bit inconsistent, but if he keeps putting in performances like that, I’d be fairly confident he’s got a few decent prizes in him.
Gutted with Call The Police, about to won without breaking sweat, when he tipped up at the last. First mistake, if you could call it that, that he’s made over fences. On the plus side, he looked back to his best, and surely a big prize awaits next season.
Caduceus was very impressive with his victory, winning with plenty to spare. Some decent handicaps shouldn’t be beyond him in the next 12 months.
May 12, 2012 at 12:26 #403974Pateese runs in the 1400 at Haydock. He’s already had the couple of victories I hoped for, but didn’t expect him to end up trying 3 miles. Didn’t think, intitially, a step up would suit, but his win in testing ground over 2 and a half at Cheltenham offers plenty of encouragement for today.
May 13, 2012 at 13:21 #404060Really chuffed with Pateese yesterday, finishing 3rd. His step up in trip has worked and opens up a few new avenues for him. I’m pretty confident he’ll land at least a couple of nice prizes in the next 12 months.
Shoegazer ran in the race just gone at Uttoxeter, but could only manage 2nd. Still plenty to work on, and, like Patesse, confident there’s still a couple of good wins in him in the coming season. The winner of todays race, Tour Des Champs looks as if he’ll be one to follow, very impressive on his jumping debut.
Duke of Monmouth runs in the next at Uttoxeter, and I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t open his account.
