Well, Sego Success didn’t get very far last Saturday at Warwick. All roads lead to Ayr for him now was far as I’m concerned, and reckon he still looks ideal for it.
Cloudy Too is back out today at Haydock in The Peter Marsh, and though I think he’s lost a bit of his zip, he does remain well handicapped, and at around 7’s or 8’s he looks solid each way value. I badly want Virak to win that race though, as I’ve bet him for The Gold Cup, and if he can’t win this he won’t be going there. Bit of a worry this race for me, as I’ve also bet Fingal Bay for the 3 miler on day 1 of The Festival, and a win here won’t help his chances there, so I think I’ll leave the race alone, bar a trifecta.
One of the horses I mentioned earlier, Sammy Black, was back over hurdles last week, and he showed nothing. Don’t know if he just needs more time, but it’s really beginning to look as if his setback has taken it’s toll, which is a shame, as he looked dynamite before it.
Theinval is back out today, over hurdles at Ascot, and the smaller obstacles look to be the plan for the rest of the season, certainly as he also got an entry in The Lanzarote. Today might not be the day, as I think he prefers a sounder surface, but he’s have to be of interest at the big festivals in the spring. Looking forward to seeing him today anyway.

Hard not to be impressed by this horse, and he’ll hopefully continue on an upward curve at Haydock today. Already rated 154, he routed his rivals last time, and there’s got to be more to come. He’ll hopefully turn out to be more than a typical soft ground Venetia Williams horse, and I’ve already got some decent prizes in mind for him. He seems to have crept up on me a wee bit, he’s already an 8yo, so we might start seeing a lot more of him in the next 12 months, especially in the more established big races. This is painful watching lol, well at least his rating will come down
January 24, 2016 at 11:35 #1230546Well, Otago Trail was very disappointing, and looked to have conditions to suit as well. In hindsight, giving 7lbs to the likes of Bristol De Mai was a big ask, but that may be clutching at straws, he wasn’t great. I’d be fairly hopeful Venetia will have him down a good few pounds in the coming months, and I honestly think he’ll emerge as one of her staples in the big staying chases, the type of horse she’s normally associated with. Certainly not giving up on him that quickly.
January 24, 2016 at 11:40 #1230547Well, The Peter Marsh went exactly according to plan (for once) and The Trifecta was landed. To top it off, I ended up with a few quid on Cloudy Too, so very very happy to have stood by him, and the other 2 as well. To be honest I couldn’t have had anything else in the race, Reve De Sivola was probably the worst favourite of the season. To be fair though, there was a fair amount of good fortune involved as well, as Gas Line Boy looked nailed on to be in the first 2 at the very least. Nonethless, very happy that Cloudy Too repaid the faith, though life will be difficult for him after this, but good to see him land a big win anyway.
Theinval ran well for a long way, before dropping away late on, and he’ll remain of interest in the spring.
