Can’t see Big Bucks losing his crown but Mourad could be a bit of value
January 29, 2011 at 21:15 #338263Grand Crus dotting up today was a real tonic looking forward to this race. A challenger to Big Buck’s crown is what the staying division needed most.
Grand Crus showed a tremendous turn of foot at the end of 3 miles today to dismiss some decent rivals with absolute disdain. Big Bucks would not have won that race by 8 lengths, thats for sure, but thats not the kind of animal he is. He’ll keep pulling out more and more, and tactics will be key. Will Tom Scudamore try slip Big Bucks turning in or try tackle him after the last. A very very intriguing affair is in prospect.
Grand Crus has yet to be tested seriously this year, and could be capable of anything, yet Big Bucks is the horse who has done it time and time again at Grade 1 level. The prices of 4/5 Big Bucks and 3/1 Grand Crus seem about right. If I had to make a call now I’d say Big Bucks will take serious beating, but if there is a staying hurdler out there to do it, Grand Crus is the one.
Powerstation for third
January 29, 2011 at 22:25 #338272Grand Crus races with such relish. I have been following him all season, and from what I saw in the Cleeve Hurdle, he’ll certainly shake up Big Buck’s at Cheltenham.
Look out Big Buck’s, there’s a new kid on the block.
Laugh all you want, but it’s Grand Crus for me !

Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
January 29, 2011 at 22:29 #338274Really thinking of putting a massive lay on Big Bucks and dust down the old betfair account. Jesus i think he has proper opposition this year and Paul Nicholls has always said one day he get caught out and who knows it could be this year.
Mourad looked a stone better horse than this time last year.
If they all make it and throw in fiveforthree you got a cracking race.
January 30, 2011 at 01:55 #338298Impressive performance by Grand Crus. Mourad is a worthy challenger, and if Solwhit runs as well it will be a great contest

Yes, I think if you have a nice each-way voucher on Grands Crus I would think seriously about adding a win bet on the favourite. We are not talking about a champion who has shown any sign of regression. Grands Crus may just be too good but with Big Bucks we know he has done it time and again, he definitely finds off the bridle and he is much the safer jumper of the two – Grand Crus is pretty low and fast leaving little margin for error.
If these two turn up in decent form there isn’t a third.
January 30, 2011 at 10:37 #338327Have to say, I was impressed by Grand Crus yesterday. Loved how quick he slipped the field and made it look so easy.
The Big Bucks and Grand Crus match has a Darth Vader ‘n’ Luke Skywalker feel to it. Could be a classic duel
January 30, 2011 at 11:19 #338335Like many other punters, i am a huge Big Bucks fan, but all season i have been following Grands Crus and have been nothing short of bedazzled with this horses performances.
I noticed in my 2/1 win yesterday on the Cleeve Hurdle that Grands Crus was under restraint early on , but kept the head low and bobbing away just like Big Bucks does.
Picking his way through the field easily and beating some good horses like Bensalem, Spirit River and Restless Harry is no easy feat.
He ran an identical race to how Big Bucks runs normally, apart from the turn of speed two to one out … Big Bucks good night,,, all you Big Bucks ante post kings, lay right now

Grands Crus the main horse of the meeting and quite possibly the new star of national hunt racing this time next year
January 30, 2011 at 22:03 #33843020s looking good now chaps!
February 3, 2011 at 21:19 #338954Best E/W value for me at this time is Ashkazar. Before the greatwood hurdle Phillip Hobbs was saying if Menorah could win off top weight with his rating of 151, he’d have every chance in the champion. He won and was installed one of the favourites for the race
Ashkazar stepped up to 3 miles for the first time on new years day and won the same race that propelled Big Bucks into grade one company a couple of years ago. He did this off top weight, off a rating of 152 (a similer rating to Big Bucks back then). If there is to be an upset, this might be it. He’s been a horse that has had so much expected of him over the years. He was being touted as a possible champion hurdle winner, looked on paper an exiting chaser in the making and somehow hasnt quite fulfilled his early promise.
Perhaps stepping up to 3 miles will prove to be the key, you certainly cant argue with his record. 1 run, 1 c/d win.200/1 on betfair is way too big imo. Pipe often wins with his ‘outsider’.
February 4, 2011 at 07:53 #338982i was at Prestbury Park last week, for trials day. me and all my pals, with over 20 years of racegoing and punting were left speechless by Grands Crus performance. We had all backed Restless Harry e/w based on the Big Bucks form, but the Pipe animal ran them all ragged.we all quickly piled in at around 7/2 for the World Hurdle and with all these negative vibes about Big Bucks and he may not even run surely this looks a festival banker now? Even if Big Bucks did go to post and was in the form of his life i doubt he could handle the speed, class and stamina of the Pipe horse. I noticed on Betfair the Layers are now after the Nicholls horse ,so i have joined in the fun aswell.Well done to all the shrewdies who got on Grands Crus at fancy prices, i’m jealous.
February 9, 2011 at 17:00 #339632Knockara Beau giving extra emphasis on the form of Grand Crus, today.
February 9, 2011 at 17:24 #339636Fiveforthree returns at Navan on Sunday
Still only a 9yo
February 23, 2011 at 17:16 #341889Just heard on ATR that Solwhit is going for the World Hurdle. As I’ve said before, it’s a consolation prize fro horse not fast enough for the Champion
February 23, 2011 at 20:37 #341932I’m not a fan of this race at all but it does look to be shaping up into quite a decent renewal now:
Big Bucks
Grand Cru
Solwhit
Fiveforthree
MouradMarch 7, 2011 at 15:38 #343618Solwhit now a non-runner.
March 9, 2011 at 12:40 #343881Looking like a 6 horse race now so each-way terms are potentially attractive. Best thieving bet is Zaynar 12/1 e/w without BB – a five horse race effectively.
Also Thousand Stars NRNB at 50/1 e/w is a good deal IMO as he has a chance if switched to the World Hurdle.
