I think a lot of people are underestimating the raw ability that Tidal Bay possesses.
I don’t think he has been helped with some of the placements he has had over the past few years, behind chopped and changed in trip so often that he has never really been able to get into a rhythm.
He is a very fast horse too, don’t write him off too soon.
Agreed, Gaz.
I’ve always maintained that only the likes of Kauto Star, Denman and Master Minded possess more natural ability than this chap.
He’s been near, or reached the top, of every discipline in the NH game and his pace will be a huge asset in the World Hurdle.
Tactics will play a huge part. In my opinion, this horse needs to be played turning in. We saw in the Arkle that if he builds up a head of steam coming round the final bend, you simply ain’t gonna catch him.
He’s a fraction of the horse if he’s chasing the field at a crucial stage and Denis needs to let him fly coming round the final bend. With Ruby likely to play the waiting game on Big Buck’s, it will be interesting to see if he can catch Tidal Bay, who can also scrap with the best of them in a tight finish.
February 8, 2010 at 23:18 #275042I agree TB is extremely talented but i don’t see him being a match for BB’s it’s a fight for second place barring any mishaps.
February 11, 2010 at 10:45 #275555I’m in the Tidal camp big time. For anyone who questions his attitude or points at his sometimes ridiculous head carriage as serious flaws, just look at his overall record. 23 races: 11 wins 8 seconds 1 3rd.It saddens me a little that connections have wasted a season and half persisting with a horse who could never put in a fluent round of chasing (even for his arkle and aintree successes). We could have had a Big Bucks/Punch/Tidal Bay world hurlde last year! What a race that could have been. Tidal Bay is far and away the biggest threat to Big Bucks this year. He really should improve enormously on better ground. Previous stamina doubts over the 3 miles are a distant memory. i would’nt be surprised in the least if he dethrones Big Bucks this year and hopefully the engine will last long enough for a complete hurdles campaign the following season.

Poetry!! as the song goes Morrisey-,"Panic on the streets of London, panic in the stands of Cheltenham" There will be a Tidal wave of money on the day, when the penny finally drops!
February 11, 2010 at 13:56 #275602As a long time fan of Tiday Bay the most encouraging factor in his recent win was seeing him really enjoy himself again, his enthusiasm was back to the way it was a couple of years ago. Every time the camera picked him upo in close up there was a real glint in his eye
He must have hated chasing but he’s a lovely horse who never gave less than 100%, I expect to see that same glow in The World Hurdle.February 11, 2010 at 14:14 #275605I expect to see that same glow in The World Hurdle.
All being well Cheltenham,he will get a bigger cheer than Big Bucks if,i mean when he pulls it off! There will be a glow in the skys of Ripley too when i set a few Fireworks off! My name will be in lights "TLAPK" a beacon leading the way for those lost in the mist!

Admit it you are S******g bricks!
February 11, 2010 at 15:03 #275621Only danger is Karabak so far as I can tell.
February 11, 2010 at 15:11 #275623I think people are forgetting about Sentry Duty. People are saying that he may not stay. But at 16/1 people should be saying, "why wont he stay?" He is unproven over the trip, but so was Inglis Drever before he won his first World Hurdle. They are in the same mould in that they both fell short of top class over two miles.
I was very taken with his win over 2m 4 at Chelenham. He beat Katchit with a lot more ease that day than Tidal Bay did recently. And I will have nobody tell me that Katchit is a better horse over 3M than he is over 2m 4.

He certainly is a danger to all,his season being geared purely for this too! What a race we are in for, Ruby has the biggest dilemma of them all as he knows he will be shot at from all angles!
February 11, 2010 at 16:59 #275645Don’t think people should discount Time for Rupert either. Ran a cracker last time conceding weight to Tidal Bay. Being his first race in that grade, and the way he’s improved all year, it’s not inconcievable he could well improve enough to play a part.
From looking like a one horse race only a couple of short months ago, this is starting to look one of the best races of the festival.
Big Bucks, Karabak, Sendry Duty, Tidal Bay, Diamond Harry, and even Mourad could all have a say in the finish. With all the bad weather over the winter and endless cancellations of fixtures, this like alot of races could simply come down to which horse needs the least preparation to be 100% straight. What a belter it’s turning out to be.
February 11, 2010 at 20:23 #275696Big Buck’s just has too much class for all of them.
Some fine animals amongst them but BB is the equal of Denman & Kauto and will have a trip and course to suit him perfectly.February 11, 2010 at 20:52 #275701I think BB sets an incredible standard and not withstanding slip ups the only threat is tidal bay, who I will be covering in the WO BB Market.
February 13, 2010 at 09:37 #276036Cousin Vinny is now going for this.

One of the most over-rated horses around. He won’t win if he starts now.
Big Buck’s is with reason a very strong favourite but I certainly wouldn’t underestimate Tidal Bay.
February 13, 2010 at 14:37 #276105Big Bucks will win but Tidal Bay is a great each way bet now that we know he stays the trip.
