    Exactly Corky, He’s obviously going to win plenty when he’s in the top 3 betting wise in almost every race. He then goes and absolutely falls out on Imperial Emperor. Worst Jockey I’ve ever seen at coming away from the stalls in big races.

    I reckon GM23, having talked the prices out all over the web, has had the Castle Way/Sacred Angel double and copped “THE LOT.”

    He loves Buick, really.

    The Riders in the Stand

    There’s some that ride the Robbo style, and bump at every stride;
    While others sit a long way back, to get a longer ride.
    There’s some that ride like sailors do, with legs and arms, and teeth;
    And some ride on the horse’s neck, and some ride underneath.

    But all the finest horsemen out — the men to Beat the Band —
    You’ll find amongst the crowd that ride their races in the Stand.
    They’ll say “He had the race in hand, and lost it in the straight.”
    They’ll show how Godby came too soon, and Barden came too late.

    They’ll say Chevalley lost his nerve, and Regan lost his head;
    They’ll tell how one was “livened up” and something else was “dead” —
    In fact, the race was never run on sea, or sky, or land,
    But what you’d get it better done by riders in the Stand.

    The rule holds good in everything in life’s uncertain fight;
    You’ll find the winner can’t go wrong, the loser can’t go right.
    You ride a slashing race, and lose — by one and all you’re banned!
    Ride like a bag of flour, and win — they’ll cheer you in the Stand.

    Given who they ride for I’d say Murphy shows up very well at those strike rates

    Strike rates are meaningless – winners over or below expected are the measure.

    A simple profit or loss to a level stake tell you more than a strike rate.

    It’s all about “value”.

    Seem to have heard that before!

    There’s obviously a virus in the Appleby yard.
    Trainers often do very well once they’ve got rid of the virus, because their horses have been dropped in the handicap. So Appleby is bound to say his horses are simply not good enough. Because if he said it was because of a virus the handicapper probably wouldn’t bring the horses marks down as much. It also puts less pressure on himself.

    When a stable has a bad virus horses obviously don’t win as often which means the stable jockey wins fewer races, which means the stable jockey’s confidence is effected, which leads to more mistakes, which leads to even fewer winners… and so on.

    This is also the first time I can remember Appleby (effectively Buick’s retainer) having a bad virus… And before Appleby I can’t remember Buick’s main trainer – Gosden or Balding – having a bad virus either. So if this is the first time Buick’s had this problem it could make his lack of confidence even worse.

    Confidence is key.
    Buick is a top jockey with a confidence problem.

    Err, I don’t think he’s got THAT much of a confidence problem, GT: https://www.racingpost.com/news/reports/my-agent-is-outstanding-william-buick-makes-it-six-winners-in-a-row-with-yarmouth-four-timer-aRuYV6l4ymEP/

    Just the one 33/1 (54.34 on the machine) for “Rossa The Lad” at Newbury today – sorry about that, everyone, hope you all took the hint, though.

    Not now, but I believe Buick did have a problem earlier.

    Things you need to know about Rossa Ryan:

    1. He’s a lad.
    2. If you’d followed him blind this year you’d be over £171 up to a £1 stake.
    3. This means his winners over expected is better than either the trainers George Boughey or Alice Haynes (both minus £100 plus).
    4. He’s never been invited to audition for an Addams Family production.
    5. He’s never been mistaken for Uncle Fester.
