Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 29, 2018 at 16:16 #1361450Here we have it, Frankel’s first big star?
The filly is Tasleya and she is the first foal of the very useful Mashoora, who was trained, like Tasleya by Jean-Claude Rouget.
A January foal, she made her debut at Deauville today in a race for unraced fillies. The usual stables were represented but it was a one horse race from a fair way out. A bit slow to get going, Tasleya picked up well on the rain softened ground and put them to the sword despite being a bit green. Not the biggest of fillies but a wonderful mover who should improve for this. She’d be one of the speedier Frankels I have seen and surely moves into better company next time. I’ll be gutted if she isn’t a group 1 performer.
Enjoy the video and hopefully one for fans to dream about.

July 29, 2018 at 16:28 #1361452Thanks for the heads up – must say a very smooth performance and she doesn’t look to have a soft ground action per say.
Hard to know what she beat but have to be impressed with the way she did it and it is a nice starting point.
July 29, 2018 at 19:47 #1361465Watching it again she takes a little while to get herself organised to use herself properly. She was last early on and then looks as if she might run a promising race in about 4th, but when those in front start coming under pressure she claims them and goes on to hit the winning line ears pricked and in command.
One of the Fabre fillies seemed well enough fancied and Tasleya has seen her off in style.
The race was won by Freddie Head’s Polydream last season and she returned to Deauville in August, stepping up to 7F and beating Laurens in the Group 3 Prix Du Calvados. Laurens has more than franked that form and I feel Tasleya is the best 2YO I have seen from France this season.
If I could get odds for the French 1000 Guineas, I would be on her but the likelihood is that we will be lucky to see odds this year for that race, yet the Upper Volta Derby probably got priced up months ago.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 29, 2018 at 23:35 #1361469Thanks for the video Steve, very impressive and lovely action, look forward to seeing more of Tasleya (Frankel/Mashoora) as she progresses. Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 29, 2018 at 23:55 #1361473The best 2YO I have seen in France this year Jac. Spirit Of Brittany, also trained by Rouget, looked like throwing her hat into the ring the other day, when she seemed sure to make all but she somehow folded up and went out like a light to only finish third. She has previously been held up but looked to be aggressively ridden this time and I would reckon she will be restrained next time. It was a very odd race to my eyes.
I am generally disappointed by amount of French 2YO racing. At this time of the year there are so many cards that don’t have 2YO races on them. It should be mandatory that there is at least one. With Deauville on now we should see more and in the coming couple of months there will be more good ones for unraced horses.
Tasleya is setting a good standard to match. The REAL Goddess
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 30, 2018 at 01:10 #1361476Thanks for the link Steve, she looks promising.
All comers, all ground, all beaten
July 30, 2018 at 09:37 #1361489Nice one Stevie – very promising especially as Rouget said she had done little at home. Will be interesting to see where she goes next.
I’m still away but looking forward to trying to watch a few Frankel’s win this week at Goodwood. Without Parole and Veracious are the obvious ones but I also can’t wait to see Sun Maiden again. I see Sir M has given her an entry in the Leger.
On a slightly more downbeat note (and I’m sure plenty was written on other threads) but how the hell do you justify keeping a middle-distance colt on training because you want to win a King George and then not run the same perfectly fit and apparently firing horse in the King George?! It’s no good blaming the ground – this is the FLAT season ffs!! What do you expect. I have always been JG’s biggest fan but this was a head scratcher for me. Of course it turned out to be an epic race but just think how good it would have been if Cracksman had been fighting out the finish as well…! Even if he had finished 3rd (as I suspect he might have) there would have been no disgrace against two fantastic colts. I have to say I was very disappointed.

July 30, 2018 at 15:56 #1361519The Racing Post awarded Tasleya 83 for a rating but that seems their area for all French debutantes. You can sort of predict 80-90 as their opening gambit. Polydream got 87 last season in the same contest.
Polydream was a flop on seasonal reappearance but got back on track in early June winning a group 3 dropped to 7F and did it nicely.
I would imagine Rouget may target Tasleya at the same Deauville race, the Calvados, that Polydream went to last year. It seems a logical step from 6F to 7F and she’ll win it in my opinion.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 30, 2018 at 19:13 #1361537BEN VRACKIE wins by eleven lengths today.
All comers, all ground, all beaten
August 1, 2018 at 18:57 #1361819DELAWARE won very easily in France yesterday.
Disappointed for Without Parole today.
All comers, all ground, all beaten
August 2, 2018 at 17:25 #1361967Here is Delaware’s race:-
http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/race-replays/2/3360/
Only 4th on debut but no mistake this time, surely they will try him at 7F soon?
The Racing Post rated Delaware 78 but that looks rubbish because the previous horse to beat runner up Jungle Speed (Simply Striking) is now rated over 100.
Stick Delaware in a handicap off 78 and I’ll be in the bookies with a JCB bucket of £50 notes
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 3, 2018 at 18:03 #1362090Thanks for the link Steve, there will be two jcb’s if that happens

August 4, 2018 at 23:00 #1362281DUBAI BEAUTY lived up to her name and won first time out at Newmarket. no idea where she will go next. So pleased to have seen her in the flesh today.
PHANTASMIC and SWISS STORM failed to score in the following races but more to come…Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 5, 2018 at 16:52 #1362335Finche wins another Group 3 today. He still has a future. Mirage Dancer was Frankel’s 20th individual Group winner. He has reached that mark 280 days quicker than Dubawi and 355 days faster than Galileo. Not bad….
