Guess who has his first Group 1 winner? Still waiting for the replay.
December 11, 2016 at 08:52 #1276690There we go. Group 1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies with Soul Stirring (No. 2 in the yellow with black stripes silks, white cap).
December 11, 2016 at 09:12 #1276692Thanks Sea Bird. That’s put a smile on my face first thing!!! Super impressive. I wonder if we will see her over here.

December 11, 2016 at 09:22 #1276693Top Northern Hemisphere Sire of Group winners..Joni Rules the world again.
December 11, 2016 at 10:04 #1276700Soul Stirring is now a near-certainty to be crowned Champion 2 year old filly in Japan, with the Hanshin being somewhat an end of year championship for juvenile fillies over there. Would have been interesting to see her against Mi Suerte. Not sure why she didn’t make the line-up but we should get to see a lot of them in the Fillies’ Triple Crown next year.
December 11, 2016 at 10:19 #1276704was very hands and heels impressive. but would like to know what the jockey was doing on the 2nd lol. just didant seem interested till 1/2 fur to run. also gave them 15 lengths
but was impressive to watch

Apparently there is another Group 1 next weekend that Mi Suerte is being aimed at. I believe it is for colts as well.
Yes the 2nd came from a long way out but the winner was never asked a serious question. She looks a serious horse.

December 11, 2016 at 17:25 #1276782WELL DONE FRANKEL!!!
Brought a smile to face on a cold and windy winters day!!!
December 12, 2016 at 00:15 #1276822Good for racing and the many Frankel-Fans, myself included. Crossing fingers Mi Suerte serves Frankel another winner at the highest level.
I agree with Jonibake Soul Stirring was by far the best horse in the race, even if it was served to her, saving ground.
Noticed the link did not work, here’s another https://youtu.be/PwfixFjcxuMBest Wishes

The Asahi Hai I’m guessing. Equivalent of the Hanshin but for colts (although also open to fillies like the Derby). Interesting to hear that they might decide to take on the colts instead of the fillies’ race. Promising to say the least. That said, I haven’t really heard about any potential superstar Japanese juvenile colt so far, so maybe it’s because it’s not that strong a race. Would be something if Frankel could take the only two Japanese Group 1s for 2 year olds, especially considering how Deep Impact has been dominating the breeding over there.
December 18, 2016 at 12:13 #1277743Mi Suerte finished 4th. Seemed to pull hard early on, fall back and then run on at the end. Not the best of rides from what I can see, though others may disagree. I certainly think she was a bit unlucky not to get 3rd
December 20, 2016 at 00:46 #1277909Great to read that Frankel is still churning out the winners and once again it is a filly gaining first Group honours for our boy. I really hope she comes over here next year.
Will have to update my Frankel Flyers as not been on here for a few weeks due to family reasons and at least 3 more to add to my list.
Can’t wait to see how Frankel’s new crop of 2yo’s fair next year and I’m hoping to get another chance to visit himself at Banstead Manor in the Spring..
All good wishes for a Happy Christmas Joni and to all and happy & healthy 2017 .. Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 21, 2016 at 16:13 #1278012Happy Christmas to you too Jac. I hope that you can raise a smile in spite of everything.
I’m also looking forward to the new crop of 2yo’s and obviously seeing how this years lot get on at 3. It was an incredible year and he couldn’t have got off to a better start could he with all those early winners.
I think that on the whole you have to say that there were far more positives than negatives. There are a whole host of unbeaten 2 year olds waiting to be properly tested next year and any one of them could make up into a superstar. Frankel is the most successful Northern Hemisphere sire of 2016 and he has clearly passed on his talents to much of his prodigy with that strike rate still very high. He has eight 2yo’s rated over 100 going into next year and also eight unbeaten winners. Of these, the ones I am most looking forward to are Eminent, Mirage Dancer, Cracksman and Aljazeera and there is also Swiss Storm who looks a beast. I also hope that Fair Eva will still head for the Guineas and that we’ll see her recapture the brilliance she showed at Ascot.
On the less positive side, there were many well-bred horses that we didn’t get to see and I hope that trainers are a bit braver next year! Frankel got off to such a fantastic start that I think they were all a bit scared of running and getting beat in case they don’t get sent any this year. That shouldn’t be the case next season so hopefully we will have a few more early runners. I would also like to see a few Frankel’s improve more in between runs. So far, many that have run more than once have shown only moderate progress and so this is still a slight question mark for me. Finally I would like to see one or two more show a turn of foot. Many have inherited dad’s long, galloping stride but few have shown that instant acceleration that we saw in races like the Sussex and Royal Lodge.
It was abundantly clear that Frankel’s daddy is not ready to hand his crown over to anyone just yet and that he will continue to be the benchmark that every other stallion will be measured against. But I still think that Frankel will be a very serious player next year and beyond and I think it is only a matter of time before the classics start rolling in. Here’s hoping anyway.
Thanks to everyone who contributes on this thread. We may as well continue it next year no?

SilkJanuary 3, 2017 at 16:26 #1280094Thanks KS!! A very interesting debutante tomorrow. Touch Of Paradise (daughter if Ramruna) goes at Newcastle. A lowly maiden to be starting in but owned by the Magniers so hopefully she’ll prove to be decent.

January 3, 2017 at 17:00 #1280101Happy New Year Joni, hope you had a good Christmas with your family.
Look forward to the Thread Of The Year continuing and seeing the next crop of young Frankels, perhaps this time the colts might get a look in.Will certainly be looking out for Touch of Paradise tomorrow at Newcastle even though Richard Fahey isn’t a lucky trainer for me she’s an interesting entry. What a terrific mare Ramruna is 21 years old and still producing top class babies. Hope she wins Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 4, 2017 at 01:05 #1280163Touch of Paradise was previously with David Wachman. His horses have now been allocated to other trainers, with Aidan getting the pick of them.
