Bizarre game, naturally if I’m involved financially

Disappointing lack of quality from the front men surprised me, and their goal was awful, but overall, Spain will be fine
June 16, 2010 at 16:03 #301187Don’t worry, BB. Chile and Honduras will both lie down and spread their thighs for the mother country.
Yes because that’s what former colonies traditionally do!

They may well be. But if they don’t win their group they will have to get past Brazil and then Holland rather than say Portugal and Italy. Their draw gets much harder.
June 16, 2010 at 22:26 #301306Yeah agree with that. Although as the Swiss game showed things can pan out in strange ways: Brazil needed a ‘fluke’ strike to better N Korea. Spain hit the bar, had 2 close-in efforts with just the keeper to beat missed, 2 shots that were scraping paint with the keeper beaten and 22 shots overall.
No doubt they’re under some pressure now, but they looked very much at ease despite the end result of a loss.
Never easy is it!
June 18, 2010 at 19:38 #301803My God the English look woeful.
Really shaky back 4.
Swap the ‘A’ for an ‘I’ the ‘K’ for a ‘T’ & the ‘Y’ for an ‘E’ – would be nearer the mark Wal!

The problem with them is they couldn’t keep the ball if they picked it up, then placed it and carried it around in one of those ‘bags for life’!!

Am trying to imitate the curse of the commentator here…

But the ‘R’…awaits otherwise!

Answer: NOT England
Especially if he perseveres with that awful 4-4-2 totally ineffective system.
If I was Joe Cole I’d just go home. The only ‘natural’ (I say that hesitantly) left-sided midfielder in the squad and so far Capello has played Milner, Wright-Phillips, Gerrard and Rooney in that position ahead of him.
90% of this England team DON’T play 4-4-2 for their club teams, Rooney was far better for United this season as a lone striker, Gerrard plays best as an attacking midfielder, Wright-Phillips couldn’t get a game for Man City once Adam Johnson joined. Am I being over critical or is Capello the only man in the world who can’t see any of this?
And to think he gets paid £6m a year as the England manager.
Admitedly, a lot of our players aren’t good enough to win a World Cup, but they’d have a far better chance if they were employed in their correct positions and in a system that suits.
Rant over.
June 18, 2010 at 20:54 #301813Had he got a system?
Sven got crucified for not having a Plan B, i’m not sure we even had a Plan A?

Word!

The trouble is the signs were there in the game against Japan – weren’t they?!

Is playing Barry a defensive makeshift midfielder with next to nothing to offer on the creative front really needed against some of these lo-fi teams?!

We need someone in there to make the play not stop it!

Wrong mentality from the first whistle…
June 20, 2010 at 13:36 #302262Nathan, you put that bet on Paraguay in the spank bank because from watching them last night, I wouldn’t be sure they’ll get out of their group.
Just New Zealand standing in their way now.

June 21, 2010 at 20:35 #302527England are a thoroughly average International team. I’d be stunned if they weren’t knocked out early.
Spain. Back. Collect.
Game on
June 23, 2010 at 20:39 #302838Disappointed Serbia are out, though it sounds like they suffered some awful decisions against Australia (haven’t seen the highlights yet).
At least we know England cannot win the thing.
Germany 9/5 with Hills and England 13/10….whaaat?!
I’m happy with Brazil and I consider 4/1 about them still a good price as they seem the best all-round team so far IMHO.

June 25, 2010 at 14:36 #303087I’ve just had the remaining £2 @ 7.4 on Benito Archundia (Portugal v Brazil referee) to referee the World Cup Final.
June 25, 2010 at 14:59 #303089This is one of the most bizarre World Cups I can remember with France & Italy out in the group stages & England just scraping through & we’ve still to see which Spain turn out tonight. I’m still sticking with my original two of Spain & Argentina, with Paraguay as the outsider. Incidentally nearly all of the South American teams are through, which shows you how difficult their group stages are compared with the European & African groups !

Nearly there

Tough game against Portugal coming up though.

You’ve really unearthed one there, Gerald!
What price do you think Archundia should be?
