England’s price reflects
– A seamless qualifying campaign
– A great manager with a great record
– A somewhat easier group
– A first choice 11 than is as good as anyone
– A striker who is probably the best in Europe at minuteThanks to the draw, England should make semi finals where they should meet Brazil. I’d expect them to beat Brazil the way Dunga has them set up.
Holland’s credentials (in terms of actually winning the World Cup) are every bit as good as England’s yet they are twice the price of England in some places.
The gap in price is mainly due to the fact that Holland will have to beat either Brazil or Spain to get to the semi-finals while England will not have to face anybody of that calibre to get that far.
May 26, 2010 at 20:19 #297054Now that the Spanish have finally broken their hoodoo, they should have the confidence to go out and score goals, they are capable of beating anyone! On the other hand,if things dont go their way they would be a close second to Scotland for lacking Fight! We will know very early on with Spain wether they are up for it,their passing ability and movement off the ball as a team is majestic, they need to hit the ball from out the box more often when attacking, instead of trying to walk the ball into the net! The same applies to Brazil, they on their day are Spains biggest threat!

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!
Though I do think they are a useful team and Eng will have a real fight against them.

Have to agree about Holland and Eng’s price there. Wise words.

May 26, 2010 at 21:32 #297061I would also imagine that there might be quite a fair few patriotic English pounds being bet on England to succeed which could be factored into the price, probably all those people who bet on the grand national ever year as their only bet on the horses bet on England ever 4 years(poor barstewards).

May 30, 2010 at 12:52 #297624My God the English look woeful.
Really shaky back 4.
May 30, 2010 at 16:53 #297654Looking at the current FIFA rankings it is interesting to note that Portugal (best price 28/1) lie 3rd and Holland (best price 11/1) are 4th. England (best price 7/1) are in 8th position.
Prices quoted are from Oddschecker to win the World Cup but I guess that a bet on Portugal and Holland to at least reach the semis looks the value or am I missing something?Powered by Linux

Swap the ‘A’ for an ‘I’ the ‘K’ for a ‘T’ & the ‘Y’ for an ‘E’ – would be nearer the mark Wal!

Zip – It’s not half as shocking as who ‘Cap’ is building his team around!

The problem with them is they couldn’t keep the ball if they picked it up, then placed it and carried it around in one of those ‘bags for life’!!
June 1, 2010 at 18:38 #298049Got to be Spain for me at 4/1 or Argentina at 15/2. The two outsider bets I would consider are the two runners up in the South American qualifiers – Chile & Paraguay who are priced up at 66/1 & 100/1 at present.

I suspect that the press have already pencilled in a big ‘R’ to add to someone’s name!
June 15, 2010 at 20:13 #300946Are the Brazil and Spain backers worried about their teams starting their campaign late? Admittedly most of the time they will be playing teams that have had the same amount of rest, but eventually playing games on four day rest etc when others have had 5 etc will catch up with them? I’ve attributed this as a major reason in England being knocked out in certain tournaments.

Spain will walk it
June 16, 2010 at 13:27 #301127germany look nailed on, hard 2 see them beaten. Was gutted 4 north korea last night, they seem to want 2 win more than any team ive seen. In any other group theyed have a great chance of qualifying.
June 16, 2010 at 13:46 #301135I haven’t had a bet on football since the lace was removed from the brown leather balls but Mrs CS has about half a dozen bets a year on football and is very shrewd, her last bet was Ross Country to beat Celtic in the semis.
Much to my amazement she’s just had a bet on Germany to win outright, who, may I add, are far from her favourite team so the tip is obvious. Her reasoning is they are the only team to dismiss the minnows without breaking sweat.
June 16, 2010 at 15:49 #301179Don’t worry, BB. Chile and Honduras will both lie down and spread their thighs for the mother country.
