There’s the Winning Post (as you approach the course from under the viaduct head past the course and it’s on your left) but I’ve never seen it open.
Other than that the area around Prestbury Park looks grim and I reckon that the nearest nice pub could well be in Shrewsbury.
I’ve constantly failed to find a decent open pub between the centre and the course though there did look as if there was an interesting one just after one passes Molineux.
November 23, 2006 at 16:02 #31952
The Moreton Arms is on the right hand side as you head out of town towards the M54 – it’s a big spacious roadhouse 1930’s pub with decent local beer and, in my experience, friendly staff and it has plenty of parking space.
It’s beside the second last set of traffic lights heading north on the A449, about two miles north of the track.

November 23, 2006 at 17:31 #31953Alan, you should write a book about pubs close to courses. Sure it would be a good read.

November 24, 2006 at 10:31 #31957
ST,
Keep in mind it’s Wolves v Sunderland, 8pm kick off at Milineux this evening, so a quiet pub may be hard to find!

November 29, 2006 at 22:15 #103168Speculative engagement for Huntingdon, Thursday 7th.
Given the amount of speculative entries that have come to nowt lately, one could be forgiven for thinking that I live in a stable in Hen Knight’s yard.
I would just like to clarify that this is not true, I couldn’t afford the rent.
November 29, 2006 at 22:55 #103169Def Sandown Friday.
Will probably be racing next Friday as well (may consider Huntingdon as well as they could be my last opportunities to go racing before Wetherby at Xmas).
I live just down the road from Hen’s Zoz,my rent would probably be more affordable!

Mind, I can’t talk, having honoured only three of seven stated engagements during November. Bit of a poor show, even if I was unemployed for the first half of the month.
I’ve two weekdays of leave to use up before Crimbo (dates tbc) – shall try to plot wisely and land them on days when courses I haven’t got to yet are racing. Would be nice to get Folkestone out of the way, as it’s nowhere I ordinarily frequent otherwise.
It’ll only last until they spot you haven’t got six fingers on each hand and / or webbed feet – then the procession of torches will make its way to your door.

November 30, 2006 at 22:20 #103174For God’s sake man, keep your voice down!
If they find out I can use the Internet it’ll be witchcraft trials at dawn. And I really can’t be bothered with that lark.
Now hush!

In a similar vein, I won over an entire community in North Yorkshire once by sparking up my cigarette lighter. Everyone in Hunmanby and its environs still worship me as "Man With Fire In His Fingers".

Now an unlikely starter for Huntingdon…
Buggeration and sod. Bloody coursework deadlines.
