Have just been to see
Show of Hands and was chuffed to hear them do a Racing Song; it’s called Galway Farmer and it’s on utube [don’t know how to cut and paste things]. I’ve never heard a band do a racing song before and it was brilliant; had a thoroughly enjoyable night!

Here it is.Seems they change the lyrics to suit, don’t mind that.
But the song is not to my taste. Each to their own.
November 22, 2009 at 01:29 #259911Oh, but it so sums up what it feels like to go to Cheltenham and put money on a horse, and I’ve never heard anyone sing about it before [of course, mine don’t win….]

I’m glad you enjoyed it

Morris dancers are very nice people.I once borrowed a hanky off one of them in Dorset.

November 26, 2009 at 23:50 #260679Delius.Kate is stunning in this.
It relates to the composer Frederick Delius, who’s failing health left him almost blind and wheelchair-bound.

This is the first track from The Ninth Wave, which I’m sure you all know is the second side of the Hounds Of Love album.

Lyrics…
Little light shining,
Little light will guide them to me.
My face is all lit up,
My face is all lit up.
If they find me racing white horses,
They’ll not take me for a buoy.Let me be weak,
Let me sleep
And dream of sheep."Attention shipping information in sea areas…Bell Rock, Tiree,
Cromaty, gale east…Malin, Sellafield…""Come here with me now."
Oh, I’ll wake up
To any sound of engines,
Ev’ry gull a seeking craft.
I can’t keep my eyes open–
Wish I had my radio.I tune in to some friendly voices
Talking ’bout stupid things.
I can’t be left to my imagination.Let me be weak,
Let me sleep
And dream of sheep.Ooh, their breath is warm
And they smell like sleep,
And they say they take me home.
Like poppies heavy with seed
They take me deeper and deeper.November 29, 2009 at 20:18 #261212 - AuthorPosts
