Yesterday while off work sick and bored I clicked on virtual racing and thought I have a look bet 50p each way, not one winner, a few seconds to keep the money topped up but ended up with a loss.

How on earth do people keep playing this, the commentary was the same repeated every race started to drive me nuts, I assume there must be some people out there who think there is logic to it or form but to me it seemed whatever horse I had backed it would never have won.

I assume there is some sort of percentage to these games I haven’t bothered to check but I won’t be going near them again.

In the absence of any skill or rational analysis factors, then as with the FOBTs they’re for compulsive/addicted gamblers surely?

I used to bet on these in the bookies until one jockey failed to ride out his mount on the one I’d backed. That Seb Easterby a right cheating b****** ;-)

The racecard numbers could be on anything – bingo balls, dogs, athletes, raindrops running down a window. It’s a computerised draw with the numbers of the shorter priced ‘runners’ weighted more heavily than those at longer prices.

I do know of a Glasgow betting shop punter who had a single £10k bet (lost) on VR. His reasoning, reportedly, was that there was no jockey/trainer influence in the result.

Call me old-fashioned but I don’t understand it at all

I often wonder if you played it long enough, would the same races come round again ?

I saw a guy put £2400 on the 2/1 favourite for a virtual Greyhound race.

This geezer was a habitual loss chaser, who could never wait until the next day, but had to fire cash at whatever the next contest was.

I don’t recall the dog’s name but it might as well have been Greyfriar’s Lassie for all the difference it makes. I didn’t watch the race but checked the results later and saw that his mutt, Trap 2, was only third.

Obviously this canine shaped set of pixels didn’t transverse the screen as fast as two other, slightly differently coloured but strikingly similar actioned sets of pixels. Not even a jockey to blame but if the dog had been called Ballyregan Champ perhaps he might have run faster.

    Complete Bollocks.

That last line isn’t an opinion by the way, it’s the name of the favourite for the next race at Desperado Valley VR

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

A mate of mine won approx €1,400 on a 50c Combi F/C & T/C on the VR in Ireland about 3 years ago. His system was to ask our landlady of the B&B for 3 numbers between 1 and 10. Amazingly these came in first time of asking :yahoo:

On a more serious note, every bet placed on virtual racing gives the bookies more ammunition when they decide to stop showing real racing in their shops.

The mentality of anyone who thinks they can win on virtual racing, internet casino games, FOBTs is completely unfathomable. Why do people get involved in the first place? It’s not entertainment or fun, it’s desperate stuff.

All such things are undoubtedly programmed to pay out now and again to keep the addicted mugs thinking there’s a chance they can win big. Indeed, there are probably publicised examples of large payouts to perpetuate the myth.

In reality the profits made from these activities must be huge.

    Sad, very sad. :negative:

....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
