Bookmakers are scum who only welcome losers, it’s hard to see what benefit they bring to either racing or punting.
Can’t help thinking we’d all be better off with a Tote/exchange monopoly for the sport.

    Absolutely no way imo.

If you’re talking fixed odds: With one bookmaker there’d be little or no competition. They’d work to a bigger over-round and so harder to make a profit for us punters.

If you’re talking pool odds: I don’t want to back anything I don’t know the price of.

The "advantage" of exchange odds is vastly exaggerated / non existent allowing for exchange commission and when compared to best early prices in the "village".

I’ve spoken to and read the complaints from several people who have had accounts closed and being a winning punter doesn’t necessarily mean they will close you down.

"A face" for example may be laid on a regular basis as knowing what he knows can be good for business. They can if they wish lay his bet off then reduce the price drastically and save thousands of pounds if the horse wins.

I have been following your betting Ginger and to be honest taking it you actually place the bets you post it beats me how your account/s remain open.

Bookmakers don’t just look at your profit and loss. They look at the administration costs and nuisance value involved. If you are placing 2 3 and 4 bets in the same race and betting in a few different races in the same day and winning yours is the first account they will close. I don’t know you well enough to know if your bets posted are fun bets or real so please don’t read this post as suggestive. I’m just saying it as it is.

Even if a punter is losing if the administration costs don’t make it worth their while they may single you out and close you down.
In cases like that I think it’s very much the luck of the draw. Their accountants will look at the figures and if they decide they need to close X amount of accounts that fall into that category and you are one of them then your gone.

Without actually befriending a few bookies to help trying to get a large bet say 5-10k at 7/4 with any high street bookie is all but impossible. On Betfair it’s very easy especially at major meetings where a million is traded per race in minutes

The easy answer is don’t bet with bookies change to the exchanges but life unfortunately isn’t that simple. Lots of people like to have combination bets If you are betting in multiples on the exchanges as Ginger says you are betting blind. You back a yankee and the first 3 win you have a large amount going on to the final leg then you have no control over what price the last leg will end up. With the bookie you will no doubt have taken a price on at least the last leg.

If the last leg wins then who cares if they ban you
