I have just had my account closed without reason. My average bet is probably less than £20 and I haven’t made vast sums on the account – the balance for this year is +£108.28. Can anyone offer any reasons why they would choose to close the account? Never had an account closed before and my balances with other firms would be considerably higher.

No idea but VC Bet are right up there with Bet365 for me as "problem bookies" that I just don’t use anymore.

There is always some sort of issue with them either their website doesn’t work properly or takes an age to load or in Bet 365’s case £3.65 is about all you can get on.

Pain in the backside the pair of them.

VC Bet have ads on RUK – Beat Victor competition – Yeah chance would be a fine thing, I can log onto my account no trouble at all but when attewpting to enter that competition it never accepts my details.

I have no problems with Bet365 who have as far as I am concerned always provided an excellent service.

It makes you laugh to see the old smarm himself in those tedious Racing UK adverts going on about ‘The Punters Bookmaker’. What sort of punters is the man talking about?

As for Beat Victor it may be coincidence but I found it quite easy logging on until I won.

Victor Chandler are the only bookmaker ever to close one of my accounts. I got lucky on their account one year back in the 90s and won 6 out of 10 winning bets for £200. Chicken feed in the grand scheme, but I still got the letter telling me ‘account is uneconomical’.

I had my account closed as well. Probably part of a routine cull of unprofitable accounts, although I wasn’t making huge money out of them.

VC are unusual in closing accounts completely rather than restricting to tiny amounts.

It might be checking after a few months to see if they let you sign on again.

Do you have many each way bets when the maths gavours such bets Stilvi?

They don’t like punters betting each way when it favours the punter. eg the dead 8 or 9 runners particularly when there’s a short priced fav in the field.

You don’t have to be a lot in profit for them to close an account. If they aren’t going to make any money from you, they won’t be interested.

Another reason might be if you’re beeting starting price by an average of over 20%.

Thanks for the replies. I don’t feel so bad in the knowledge (however wrong I might think their decision is) that they are doing it to others as well.

It isn’t the end of the world but it does lessen the opportunities particularly as already these days I rarely use Blue Square, Sky Bet and Ladbrokes.

Yes, I will usually beat the SP but that is the same with all firms. Perhaps it was winning over a £100 on the Eurovision Song Contest that tipped me over the edge!

Personally, if I had what I considered a ‘shrewd punter’ and they were only betting relatively small amounts I would use them as a guideline and retain their business.

Does this happen to all winning bets, then.

Only I like betting in the national, and VC goes 6 places only the no VC in my local town, so if I were to bet with them it would be online. However if I was to win, which all punters hope for, would they close my account?

I suspect you will be alright – as long as you don’t win too much!

It appears from this thread that they have a shorter tolerance period than other bookmakers. Given the smug adverts as Racing UK’s bedfellows I think that is worth highlighting.

I had my account restricted by Ladbrokes down to stakes that are no good to me a couple of days ago. I did turn over quite a lot of money with them because they usually had the best prices on the horses I was backing, but I am certain that over the last month or even 6 months that I have lost money with them. So how do you explain that one?
The other thing I find quite funny is when Channel 4 report some bookie has layed a 50k bet on something or other when I can’t even get £200 quid on with the exact same bookie.

Bookmakers are only interested in mug punters.

Laddies restricted me even though showing a loss on there! Profitable on there through poker and they make every punt no more than £25, just plain ludicrous.

Stan James are very good. Haven’t adjusted or refused any bet.

I’ve had the same problem with VC closing my account. Bit pathetic but I’ll live with my dozen or so other accounts.
One problem….VC were crediting my account with £20 to cover my RUK subscription. Do any other bookies have a similar offer?

I emailed them for a statement of my account since I opened it in 2003 and they provided it same day.
Profit of £1500 in 8 years. £13,500 bet £15,000 won
Mostly singles and only ew bets would be 16/1 +
Hills & Powers restrict my account
I have never had a problem with B365

VC closes more accounts than anyone. To call them bookmakers is a joke ,gutless sheisters is a more apt description. Soon as you get your nose in front its all over baby.

I finally requested a statement and clearly it is not all about winning as I was actually around £500 down.
