A race which continues to grow in popularity, and rewarded as usual with a strong entry…..

Not for the first time, my attention is drawn to Seeyouatmidnight. He should be sharper for his Haydock spin, and he’s a massive price. Trainer pinpointed this as his main target for the season, but he also holds an entry at Ayr, which stops me from betting him here just now.
Sir Ivan, and Potters Legend, both near the head of the market, make plenty of appeal too, and they’d be near the head of the shortlist too.
Regal Flow continues to defy his years, and eased another pound after his big run in The London National, he makes plenty of EW appeal at 25’s.
Theatre Guide has been a regular of mine round here, and it’s the right track for him. 14’s seems fair.
14’s also seems a fair price for Present Man. Nice win at Chepstow a couple of months back, and he still looks well treated. I can see a big run, and he’s got a look of value about him.
No bet just now, but I’d go with this quartet as the shortlist….

I’ll probably add another, but I’ve had my first bet, and I’ve had a decent swing at Seeyouatmidnight. I think he’s got a great chance with a run under his belt. A Sandy Thomson special if ever I seen one

December 28, 2020 at 17:32 #1515676I’m not sure if this is one of my favourite races of the season or least favourite. It’s great to see these old campaigners doing battle for a big prize on a quiet Saturday afternoon. Trouble is I never know who to cheer on as so many wonderful horses line up in it!!
This year’s renewal is a difficult one to Get a handle on. Normally a deep ground staying chase screams out Venetia Williams but both her entries have been pulled up in all their runs this season. But she is in good form now.
You would think that Jepeck would have been targeted for this but he hasn’t completed in two starts. And Seeyouatmidnight would have a great chance but pulled up at Haydock.
Theatre Guide looks a great each way bet having placed in the last two renewals of this race but the Tizzards form hardly inspires confidence.
So that’s half the field ruled out. Or is it? I have a sneaky feeling about Jepeck.
December 30, 2020 at 15:21 #1515874Fingerontheswitch at 20-1, and Jepeck at 14-1 both look like value to, and I’ll definitely follow VtC though with his Sandy Thomson special Seeyouatmidnight.
December 30, 2020 at 18:36 #1515885Agreed on Jepeck, he’s jocked-up and so I’m surprised to find 14s available for last year’s winner running from the same mark as when successful at an SP of 3/1. The contrast is I suppose form heading into the race but I’m hopeful that this season’s runs have been with this race in mind. Only needs one to come out.
I couldn’t really put anyone off those already mentioned above but of those not already highlighted, I also think the 14s for Valtor looks fair. Has run well at Ascot previously so I’m optimistic that this test and relatively calmer waters will suit.
December 31, 2020 at 17:01 #1515925Front of the market looks woeful here: Crosspark two slow for three miles, Late Romantic brutally handicapped now, Sir Ivan doesn’t stay, Potters Legend exposed, Jepeck possible ‘gone’, Minellacelebration off 150 (!)…
Main bet for me is the class of Valtor @ 14/1 back on the glue and going right-handed, felt like he was never really unleashed last season with spring targets in mind. Every chance this is the big pot for him now. Small win-only go on Seeyouatmidnight @ 20/1 and small e/w on Fingerontheswitch @ 20/1 to cover as well.
January 1, 2021 at 22:06 #1516052First of all a happy and healthy 2021!
Luckily racing is still on and this is Always a great race. I like Valtor and Seeyouatmidnight here. Valtor is back to a decent mark and a righthanded track. Hasn’t raced too much so I hope he can put up a good perfomance again. Seeyouatmidnight is a bit of gamble, but like VtC mentioned this should be his goal. Ground and trip are fine and it is a big pice to see if his abilty is still there.

January 2, 2021 at 15:14 #1516158Great stuff! Well done VtC who put the winner up first, and others who were on.
January 2, 2021 at 15:16 #1516160That was great to see. What a marvellous horse he is!

January 2, 2021 at 15:47 #1516170Nick Luck asked Sandy Thomson on RTV if he had any more rabbits to pull out of the hat after Yorkhill and this horse and he replied yes, in April with Bellshill.
January 2, 2021 at 16:34 #1516176Well done Bobby, Sandy Thomson has done you proud again, and you must have felt rather confident throughout the race. Something that isn’t easy to say about such a competitive race at Sandown.
January 2, 2021 at 17:10 #1516186Thanks all, there are no words, I love that horse.
Well done also to Holla, DBR, and Spoon.
