Theyve just been taking it in turns to beat each other

There are no real standout horses

You say wembley but he’s won 1 race out of 6, that’s hardly form that screams top class 3yo

I definitely won’t be having a guineas ante post bet

The spring trials will be key

Yes there is no ‘sexy’ Guineas horse this time, unless it’s Battleground. I only backed Wembley for the Guineas a few days back in anticipation of a storming run yesterday. After he was taken out I have decided for now to keep him.

Thunder Moon is a decent ground horse definitely. The fact he ran so well in the Dewhurst is a testament to his ability :-) . Joseph O Brien said he would only the run the in the Dewhurst if the ground was suitable after his National Stakes win. But they decided to roll the dice anyway.

Wembley is another who is better on nice ground, and ran an eyecatcher in the Dewhurst from a bad position. Imo he would’ve won yesterday if the ground had been ok and his win to run record would then be less of a concern. Kameko had only won a maiden before he won the equivalent race last season, Wembley wasn’t given an opportunity to rout the field :good: .

The National Stakes may be the key race, just a shame that Battleground didn’t turn up.

Spring trials may be irrelevant too, a fair few 2000 winners of the past have gone straight there.

I’d wait till we see what spring we have before committing. Coolmore and others have a few choices and just now the vibe is that battleground is most likely to be aidens first choice with high definition and Wembley. The Guineas will give us idea where coolmore will split the horses. St marks basilica I can see ending up in the derby. Also a few might go to the Irish or French Guineas. A lot of trainers will be dreaming of Guineas glory but aiden just seems to get them ready for Newmarket spot on. On goos ground id go for high definition and thunder moon and on easy Wembley and one ruler.

mickeyjp AOB quoted before the Vertem Futurity that the better the ground for Wembley the better he is…

“Obviously he ran a great race in the Dewhurst (won by stablemate St Mark’s Basilica) and before that the National Stakes, so he’s got Group One form,” said O’Brien.
“He seems to have been in good form since. He is stepping up to a mile for the first time, but we don’t think that is going to be an issue.

“Hopefully the ground isn’t that soft – the better it is, the more he’ll like it.”

To my eyes he looks better in easier conditions. Bolger says Macswiney is better on good ground but most folk would disagree with that. Wembley is improving with every run and seems similar to love in his progression. Wouldn’t surprise me if he turns out to be top notch.

I have checked Wembley’s form figures in his career to date and his best form has been on yielding soft and heavy.
Indeed his only win came on soft to heavy. Only run once on good ground.
So begs the question why was he withdrawn on heavy ground just before the race, citing the going?
If this was the real reason could have saved a lot of people a lot of money by not making the trip as the going was forecast to be heavy.
