Somewhat random but has anyone ever been to Veliefendi racecourse in Istanbul?

When did you last go and what was the experience like?
I noticed that lots of UK horses (especially Godolphin) used to go over and win the main prizes but it doesn’t seem to happen anymore, does anyone know why? I’m guessing Brexit and the cost of shipping horses international / insurance etc.
I was more intrigued than anything

January 8, 2025 at 00:04 #1717690I’ve never been there Clints. But a reason for better European runners not going there is probably because The Bosphorus Cup has changed to being a “Local Group 2”, which is nothing like the same as the “Group 2” status it once had when Godolphin and other British trained horses targeted it… And has since halved in prize money.

I think what done for big races was an export ban on horse movement a few years back due to a disease that occured in Turkey , they could go in but were stuck there .
Not sure if it is still in place .January 13, 2025 at 13:49 #1717977If you go make sure you don’t have a bet.
