From the RP:
JOCKEYS Paul Doe, Greg Fairley, Kirsty Milczarek, Jimmy Quinn and trainer Paul Fitzsimons have been charged by the BHA with serious breaches of the rules of racing. The charges focus on horses being laid to lose on betting exchanges in ten race that took places between January 17, 2009 and August 15, 2009.
Licensed owners Maurice Sines and James Crickmore have also been charged, as have Peter Gold, Nick Gold, Shaun Harris, David Kendrick, Darren May and Liam Vasey.
All 13 individuals have been charged with a breach of rule 201(v) in that it is alleged they conspired to commit a corrupt or fraudulent practice.
Each of the jockeys is additionally charged with a breach of rule 243 in that it is alleged they communicated directly or indirectly to one or more betting exchange account holders, for material reward, gift, favour or benefit in kind.
May 20, 2011 at 11:01 #356196BHA comment on the charges:-
Chris Brand, Acting Chief Executive of the BHA, said:
“Protecting the integrity of racing is a key priority for the Authority. In recent years we have invested heavily into a wide ranging infrastructure of investigatory services designed to monitor and combat integrity threats to our sport. British Racing is rightly recognised worldwide for its expertise in this area and the high standards we set for both ourselves and those participating.“Racegoers and punters should be reassured that the overwhelming majority of races are free of suspicion and we are committed to deterring and detecting wrong-doing and taking action when we believe there is evidence of it.
“We will continue to look to the support of Government and other agencies in ensuring an effective regulatory regime and the provision of dedicated resources to assist in this area. Recent events demonstrate this is a growing concern many sports share.
“The charges issued by the Authority today are the result of a lengthy, detailed and complex investigation, following suspicious betting activity on more than one betting exchange and with traditional bookmakers.
“It is of course of utmost importance that those charged are given a fair hearing and the opportunity to defend themselves and we will therefore make no further comment on the details of this case at this stage.”
May 20, 2011 at 11:23 #356198Thanks Paul , firstly let me give credit where it is due , well done BHA
Secondly I guess we can expect at least 5 more , unless this message being sent actually does work
I can envisage a lot of small fields in the aw season to come
It will be interesting to see if the charges do stand up

All I can say to the BHA is PROVE IT and I’ll be stop being so cynical in believing this is another non-story.
May 20, 2011 at 11:52 #356204Can anyone answer these questions =
1)
What is the highest class of race under investigation?
2)
What is the average class of race under investigation?
3)
What surface is the majority of races under investigation run on?
Thanks

May 20, 2011 at 12:06 #356206How on earth can they charge Greg Fairley for the ride on "The Staffy" on the 5.3.09, it never won a race in it’s short career and died as a 4yo old.
After reading the form of the other horses involved, all I kept on thinking about was glue factories.
May 20, 2011 at 12:16 #356208As far as I can tell, Jimmy Quinn didn’t go for the whip once on It’s a Man’s World. Cruised into contention and just didn’t go past. I’m amazed it’s taken this long for them to find out.

I understand it is alleged that Jimmy Quinn was the ringleader at least on the jockeys’ side and recruited the other jockeys charged.

Does anyone know if there will be jail sentences or is Horse Racing fraud different to everyday fraud?
Thanks

1. 7 class 6 races (3 sellers, 1 claimer and 3 handicaps) and 3 class 5 maidens
3. 8 AW races, 2 turf races.
So no surprises there then.
May 20, 2011 at 13:03 #356219absolutely nothing!
May 20, 2011 at 13:06 #356220Funny how so many races at Leafy and Wolves are being looked at. I wonder why that is?

Super-sized dog tracks.May 20, 2011 at 13:26 #356225I am not suprised to see Jimmy Quinn in that list. I never back anything he rides even if I really fancy the horse. I remember a race about a year and a half ago he was riding Welcome Approach at W/hampton. A shocking ride, the horse was all over the field a furlong out but he wouldnt let the horse go until it was far too late, the horse then flew home when he finally let him go with about 200 yards to the post when the leader was well ahead a couple of lengths up and the horse still nearly won.

May 20, 2011 at 13:31 #356226don’t mean to sound disrespectful…but the owners seem to be pretty small fish…are the big ones off the hook…
May 20, 2011 at 13:38 #356228Could, everybody please stop making wild allegations about jockeys? Nothing has been proven as yet.
Please choose your words and statements with care.
