A quick question for anyone who uses Turftrax. In an event to get to grips with sectional timing, I’m trying to make sense of the data on the site but have hit a problem, probably best illustrated by an example.

For the 4:45 at Lingfield on 19th March, a 5f race, the fractional times don’t seem to relate to the sectional times. In this particular race, the time taken from the half mile to the winning post is given as 11.82. However when you consult the furlong by furlong sectionals below, none of the horses, even the winner, ran the final furlong in 11.82. Clearly I am missing something. Would anyone care to put me out of my mathematically-challenged misery?

(I have already contacted Turftrax but have had no reply as yet)

That fractional time will be the time from when the leader passes the furlong pole to the time the winner passes the post. It is not neccessary for any individual horse to clock that time. Of course if the leader at the furlong pole was the winner, the times would be the same.

Thanks Carvishill, sounds simple when you put it like that.
