You beat me to that fair and square Cork. In a sudden death situation the one who is first to answer everything correctly has to be the winner.

But your list is a real puzzle. Just when I thought things might be easier, here comes your list…..

“I’m just popping out for a curry in Bergen” – jealous!

I was in Bergen on a Sheffield school-subsidised school cruise in 1974 and all I can remember is it was raining and we were told it rains all the time there and they get an average of seven dry days a year.

    Enjoy the curry!

Meanwhile, CAS’s ten look fiendishly difficult to me and I will have to give them some thought.

    I’d had a stab at Ian’s questions, so it’s only fair I give Cork’s answer a go.

    1. The first race meeting I attended was at the July Course in Newmarket.
I’d believe this from Triptych, however seeing your from Liverpool I think the would have been closer tracks (Not necessary Aintree) : So I conclude this is “TRUE” to quote Spandau Ballet.

    2. I have attended race meetings at every racecourse in the UK, including at the defunct tracks of Towcester and Folkestone.
What even A day trip to Bangor. To quote Fiddlers Dream : Also True

    3. I have completed the Coast to Coast walk from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay.
On the way passing Skye (Boat song) FALSE

    4. Graeme Souness and his wife Karen (she used to put up the letters on “Countdown”) used to be my next door neighbours. TRUE

    5. I was in New York on 11th September 2001.
Watched that on the News, thought it was a disaster film at first until I realized it was real life. If you were there, I bet you wish you wasn’t : FALSE

    6. I once met Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones at Windsor and tipped him the winner of the next race.
I can believe this : TRUE

    7. I was at school with Rick Astley.
Never going to give you up, FALSE

    8. I once sat next to snooker referee Jan Verhaas on a flight to Amsterdam.
    TRUE

    9. I once interviewed Jane Asher for a position on the Board of the National Portrait Gallery.
    FALSE

    10. I won a quiz at a Grand National preview night and my prize was presented by Clare Balding.
    FALSE

You've got to accentuate the positive.
    Eliminate the negative.
    Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.

Thank you to everyone who has had a go. Five entries so far.

I hope this does not give away too much but there is a leader.

    1. The first race meeting I attended was at the July Course in Newmarket. FALSE

    2. I have attended race meetings at every racecourse in the UK, including at the defunct tracks of Towcester and Folkestone. TRUE- you seem to be found at meetings in different parts of the country so I can believe that.

    3. I have completed the Coast to Coast walk from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay. FALSE- I reckon it was Drone

    4. Graeme Souness and his wife Karen (she used to put up the letters on “Countdown”) used to be my next door neighbours. TRUE

    5. I was in New York on 11th September 2001. TRUE

    6. I once met Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones at Windsor and tipped him the winner of the next race. FALSE- I know he’s a snooker fan, not sure about racing.

    7. I was at school with Rick Astley. FALSE

    8. I once sat next to snooker referee Jan Verhaas on a flight to Amsterdam. TRUE- he’s Dutch and spends a lot of time here officiating so why not?

    9. I once interviewed Jane Asher for a position on the Board of the National Portrait Gallery. FALSE- but a fantastic one to have made up if so.

    10. I won a quiz at a Grand National preview night and my prize was presented by Clare Balding. TRUE, you come across a knowledgeable chap and I’m sure she’d present anything given the chance.

I’d show my workings too, but I was so flummoxed by these outstandingly-tricky true or false statements I don’t actually have any!

Here are the results, in reverse order:

    Nathan Hughes 4
    Ex Ruby Light 4
    Ghost of Rob V 6
    Ian Davies 6
    Richard 88 6

    But the winner is:

Red Rum 77 with 8 out of 10.

Red Rum is the winner and the baton is passed on to him.

The answers and explanations will follow shortly.
