Thanks Nath – how could I forget?!!! “To gore” almost became a verb on this forum didn’t it? “Gore” – verb meaning to spout the most outrageous load of consistent SHITE.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

Thread of the Year – Why Frankel will rule the WorldValue Is EverythingDecember 7, 2016 at 12:27 #1275956That’s very kind, Mark. I take it as a proper compliment when you back an outsider!
December 7, 2016 at 20:53 #1275993Looking at what has gone before and trying to add new names to nominees list
Poster of the Year – to be honest, I think everyone who should be nominated has already been nominated
Flat Horse of the Year – Limato
Jumps Horse of the Year – Cue Card (despite the fall at Cheltenham – and most of the other main contenders have been nominated).
Flat Jockey of the Year – Ryan Moore – maybe not quite as mustard in the big races as previous years but still a major player. Special mention for Freddie Tylicki as he was just starting to dine at the top table when he had his tragic accident.
Jumps Jockey of the Year – Based on the noms, it looks like a near walkover for Richard Johnson but I’ll chip in with Aiden Coleman as an alternative.
Flat Trainer of the Year – Laura Mongon for her Leger win, albeit it’s surely Aidan’s for the taking.
Jumps Trainer of the Year – Dan Skelton, rapidly rising through the ranks.
Hero of the Year – Sprinter Sacre – the impossible dream.
Riding Performance of the Year
FLAT:- Dettori’s third on Order of St George in the Arc. Should not have been anywhere near the placings based on the opposition.
JUMPS:- Danny Cook on Lackamon winning the North Yorkshire National at Catterick in January. Never gave up!
Broadcaster of the Year:- Nick Luck – unflappable, professional. Terrestrials loss will be RUK’s gain.
One to watch:- ITV – could be sink or swim for racing on mainstream TV.
Racecourse of the Year:- I’ll go for Ascot as Cheltenham has already been nominated.
Journalist of the Year – Only because most of the main contenders have been nominated already – “Boy Wonder” Lee Mottershead
Villain of the Year – Bookies Reps!
Owner of the Year – Gigginstown. Yes they are hard nosed businessmen but they did collect the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Aintree and Irish Grand Nationals.
Commentator of the Year – Gareth Topham – rising star.
Thread of the Year – pass on this one!December 8, 2016 at 09:09 #1276021Didnt get to watch half enough racing this year, so there will be a few blanks in amongst my lot…
Poster of the Year – Nathan Hughes, the life and soul of the forum. Honourable mentions for Steeplechasing, Betlarge and Drone. Gingertipster who steers a steady course on here, regardless of how choppy the waters get for him. David for all his efforts.
Flat Horse of the Year

Jumps Jockey of the Year

Hero of the Year – Simon Rowlands
Riding Performance of the Year – Atzeni on Postponed in the International at York

Flat Horse of the Year – Mrs Danvers (‘rags to riches’ story)
Jumps Horse of the Year – Annie Power (for exorcising the demons and winning the one that really mattered, and in such style!)
Flat Jockey of the Year
Jumps Jockey of the Year – Lizzie Kelly (first woman to ride a G1 winner over jumps in England)
Flat Trainer of the Year – Dermot Weld (for getting Harzand to the track on Derby Day & winning the English Derby, finally!).
Jumps Trainer of the Year – Kerry Lee (~ 31 horses in training: Mountainous – Welsh Nash, Bishop’s Road – Grand Nash Trial, Russe Blanc – Betfred Classic; Kylemore Lough – Ryanair Gold Cup; Top Gamble – Game Spirit)
Hero of the Year
Riding Performance of the Year
Broadcaster of the Year
One to watch – Altior – for what he has already done and what he will go on to do; Thistlecrack – ditto.
Racecourse of the Year
Journalist of the Year – Lydia Hislop – The Road to Cheltenham essays – a must read.
Villain of the Year
Owner of the Year
Commentator of the Year –
Thread of the Year – Frankel is the stand out for ‘lasting’ and ‘quality’, but Galileo Gold and the speed gene was also a good one in terms of range of contributors/quality of contribution.
I wondered if we might not have a Race of the Year category as well, Nath? In which case I’d nominate the Irish Champion for the flat and the QM CC for the jumps.
December 8, 2016 at 21:33 #1276099This is where we are at, at the moment, please correct me if I’ve missed any out.
