I might have been lagging for a wee while in the winter version but the bigger prices were/are easier to spot in the Graded jumps races than the Group ones. I’ve got no confidence that I’ll make up the ground this time although I’ll be giving it my best shot.
Very disappointed that I went for Nahoodh yesterday though. Bottled it.
May 27, 2008 at 21:53 #165641I’m with Corm on this one – I think my only hope is to go for long shots and hope I strike a couple of lucky ones – can’t we have a summer jumps comp please
(before we start another flat vs jump debate I am only joking – we need a sarcasm Emoticon)June 4, 2008 at 12:50 #166355Well the Prix du Jockey-Club wasn’t exactly a money-spinner for anybody last weekend with only Grey Desire and Gaz’s Way De Solzen scoring points (1.40pts each) thanks to Famous Name each-way.
Special mention this week goes to whoever wrote the race report for the RP who must have had a signnificant punt on Natagora as the entire first half of the race report is about the filly while the actual winner Vision D’Etat doesn’t get a mention until paragraph 11, and even then almost as a courtesy!

Mike.June 13, 2008 at 23:25 #168287Sorry for the long delay and lack of fancy write-up this week. Well done to kieran (Look Here & Soldier of Fortune), aaronizneez (Look Here & Youmzain), & quadrilla (New Approach & Soldier of Fortune).
No race this weekend but Royal Ascot next week which sees 6 races over the 5 days so lots can change between now and next weekend.

June 17, 2008 at 09:21 #168680Another mistake has been pointed out to me so I’ll have to have another look at the results from Derby weekend and see where I went wrong. Apologies for the errors and if anybody has any queries with their score, then just post on this thread or PM me.
June 23, 2008 at 13:22 #169831Well a great weeks racing over with the shock of the week being that I’m actually posting the results up on a Monday!
7 Group 1s in all, 4 of which were won by Aiden O’Brien & Johnny Murtagh, one by the punter’s friend, Jim Bolger and the sprints went to Spain & England respectively.
Top of the class for the week on TRF goes to Gaz’s Way De Solzen who scored 23.15pts for the week, helped in no small way by Equiano (each-way) in the Kings Stand and ably assisted by both Duke of Marmalade & Yeats. Well done Gaz.
2nd spot goes to kieran with 17.60pts who also selected Equiano (each-way) but could only supplement that win with Pipedreamer (again each-way). nefertiti was the other entrant to selected Equiano (each-way) and this was enough to take 3rd spot, despite not scoring at all for the rest of the week.
A very selective policy paid handsome dividends for bambi, who selected only 3 horses out of the 7 races. However, with those selections being Duke of Marmalade, Yeats, & Lush Lashes, his 100% strike-rate netted him a total of 14.75pts, which was enough to secure 4th spot for the week.
Michael Walsh was the only other entrant (from 24 in total) to score positively for the week with a total score of 2.54pts (thanks mainly to Haradasun in the opener)
Hard luck story of the week goes to Danny who selected Kingsgate Native in the Kings Stand only to see the horse disappoint bitterly. Unfortunately for Danny (and plenty of other punters I’d say), he failed to select the horse on Saturday in the Golden Jubilee.
Mention also for Librettist whose selection for the Golden Jubilee, Godolphin’s Diabolical, pretty much summed up the week for the boys in Royal Blue when trailing in 16th of the 17 runners.

June 23, 2008 at 18:15 #169868Seriously well done, Gaz!
And, even more impressive was david, the speediest Ascot human! Thanks for a job very well done.
July 2, 2008 at 09:57 #171272Another weekend over and not without controversy either with Johnny Murtagh’s actions on Alessandro Volta in the Irish Derby just keeping the whole “Should the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud have been included in the TRF Gr1 Comp” off the front pages of the Racing Post!

A very good weekend for cormack15, quadrilla, & nefertiti, all of whom selected Frozen Fire as their Irish Derby runner with cormack15 going for the big one with 2pts win. Don’t know what he saw out his front room window last Sunday morning but his “system” seems to be working!
Quadrilla and nefertiti both backed Frozen Fire each-way with quadrilla just grabbing 2nd spot on the weekend courtesy of Promising Lead in the Pretty Polly stakes while nefertiti gave that race a miss.
A number of other entrants also selected Promising Lead in the Pretty Polly to go with a loser in the Irish Derby but they all scored 2pts over the 2 races and a profit is a profit.
A mention goes to absolution who selected both 2nd-placed horses while idiot-of-the-week goes to me who, rushing down to Ladbrokes on Saturday morning to get the 5/2 about Promising Lead, forgot to post my selection up here. At least I’m fairly confident it won’t affect the final outcome come October!

-4.00 WelshWizard1973In the overall, we have a 2-way duel at the top now with just 0.28pts separating kieran on 53.70pts from quadrilla on 53.42pts. A bit of a gap developing to nefertiti in 3rd spot on 26.57pts with aaronizneez just 1.47pts further back in 4th.
My schoolboy error re Promising Lead means that I now have 73.40pts to make up on kieran instead of only 69.40pts!
