One each at both Carlisle and Kempton (Kempton’s £20k guaranteed, the other £19k) attract a combined total of 4 runners. Surely the ground’s not that hard ??

They said Wincanton was good going, Alan King and Dan Skelton pulled all theirs out stating it as good to firm. Having had one horse run on good to firm which was never right again, I can see why the small runner fields. I do think the fields are small in general, the bumper races over the weekend had very few runners, I remember running some of ours in bumpers that were so big they split into two sections. Maybe the owners are drying up?

It will be interesting to see what happens when we finally get a period of rain and the ground softens, if the races are oversubscribed or whether fields are still small.

THEY WILL BE SMALL FIELDS AS USUAL. THESE TRAINERS BE TAKING THERE HORSES OUT FOR SOME RIDICULOUS REASON. ALWAYS DO. BUT IT REALLY GETS ANOYING. I DONT KNOW IF ITS ME BUT DO THE ENGLISH BUMPERS ALWAYS RUN AT A CRAWL. WHERE AS THE IRISH DO ACTUALLY RACE FROM THE START

Pleasing to see Seldom Inn put in a decent effort if held by a very good stayer in Onenightinvienna. I had high hopes for Sandy Thomson’s gelding last season but he never quite clicked, but he put up a decent effort at Kelso last time and saw his race out well enough in defeat today.

As far as bumeprs are concerned, being run at a crawl isn’t all bad as i try to cotton on to those unsuited to the way these races are run but still showing enough going forward. I’ve found the bumpers at Kelso give a steady flow of future winenrs.
