Sprinter Sacre V Sanctuaire. Paul Nichols says he will have Sanctuaire very fit and he is at his best when fresh. This is the race of the season for me, bring it on.
November 29, 2012 at 00:14 #421142I truly believe Sanctuaire is going to be eaten alive by Sprinter Sacre. Being a group of over-the-top horses in a race renowned for its strange results does not impress me at all with Sanctuaire.
I think Sprinter Sacre is going to win this very easily and crush any notions of a developing close rivalry between these two horses.
November 30, 2012 at 00:28 #421227race of the season? I can’t see it. theres only three pounds between them on ratings, but for me sprinter sacre has achieved infinitely more than the nicholls horse.
sanctuaire might turn out to be top class as well, but for me theres a question mark. after all isn’t he a reformed monkey who used to have to be led in, or he’d refuse to race? or am i confusing him with something else?
wouldn’t be surprised if he went back to his former rougeish ways soon, while the beast sprinter sacre, goes from strength to strength and ends up becoming one of the best 2 milers we’ve ever seen.
November 30, 2012 at 00:44 #421230Anyone who would think that Sanctuaire could serve it up to Sprinter Sacre would either be assuming one of two things in my eyes; either Sanctuaire has the potential to be one of the all time greats or that Sprinter Sacre is vastly overrated, both very wide of the mark in my opinion. The Nicholls horse looked top class reverting to fences as a novice last term any any other year would surely look the one to beat in this and possibly March, but with the company he happens to be keeping this certainly isn’t any other year. There is of course the potential argument that Sprinter Sacre’s breathing op will one day catch up with him, but having stormed through his novice season with such ease and class I can’t picture it happening just yet.
The King George looks the obvious race to look forward to for me. Plenty of classy horses vying for Kauto’s old crown on Boxing Day, should be very interesting indeed
December 2, 2012 at 17:49 #421487This is race to whet anyone’s apetite.

We all know Sprinter Sacre is a bit special, but I recall how easily Sanctuaire won at Sandown last term – a race in which he was really impressive – and if you have listened or read Paul Nicholls’ views on his horse carefullu and realise how much he thinks of him, then this race could be much closer than many think.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
December 2, 2012 at 18:07 #421490Sprinter Sacre by a minimum of ten lengths. He will love Sanctuaire giving him a good clip into the race, and it will be teed up for him perfectly.
December 2, 2012 at 20:10 #421504I think sanctuarie is being underestimated in this. Now I’m not for once saying sprinter sacre is over-rated as I am a massive fan of his, however his main victories have come from other horses making costly blunders, i.e al ferof, peddlers cross etc. Now if sanctuarie can jump to the ability he can, keeping the pressure on, he has a chance, as questions over sprinter sacre’s ability to dig deep and battle on still haven’t been answered. I may well be wrong but sure is going to be interesting.
December 3, 2012 at 01:15 #421535Those two going at it over the railway fences…cannot wait
Sacre will win. I am convinced he is the best horse since Arkle. The jumping display he gave in His Nibs race was obscene. Al Ferof banked the ditch but Sprinter Sacre took off from the same spot and flew it, then jumped the third last like nothing i’ve ever seen before. The form of that race is miles better than anything Sanctuaire has ever done
Wish they had more jumps meetings at Sandown.
December 5, 2012 at 09:09 #421704can’t remember the last time i was this excited about a horse,i truly believe he could be something special.the way he jumps, just looks effortless.
December 5, 2012 at 12:21 #421719generally bout 1.56 on betfair, looks a big price to me, although with all the snow about you wonder if this meeting will even be on.
December 5, 2012 at 12:31 #421720looking at sanctuaire’s novice chases he’s generally gone off like a scalded cat in front, showing incredible toe, which should play into the normally strong pulling sprinter sacre’s hands really.
I lost count of the number of times henderson said last year with a grin on his face "they didn’t go fast enough for him"
still it should be some duel down the railway fences between these two exuberant jumpers. time for sprinter sacre to show he’s no longer a boy and can become a man
December 6, 2012 at 19:34 #421826I think the plans for Finian’s Rainbow are a clear guide to the class of Sprinter Sacre. Although Sprinter Sacre has never run outside novice company, Nicky Henderson thinks so much of him that he is ramping last year’s above-average champion chaser towards three miles to dodge him.
Let’s not forget how good Finian’s Rainbow is. He beat Sizing Europe in the Champion Chase, then slaughtered them at Aintree. Nicky Henderson’s planning shows that Sprinter Sacre is vastly superior to him. Meanwhile, Sanctuaire is a reformed nutcase who beat over-the-top horses in a back-end race with a history of freak results.
I don’t think Sanctuaire will get within 15 lengths of Sprinter Sacre unless Barry Geraghty gets cheeky.

He has done once, in the Game Spirit before Cheltenham. Sorry for being pedantic
December 6, 2012 at 20:24 #421840i’m starting to think this thread might be a joke. are we seriously comparing sanctuaire to the beast?

wheres hurdygurdyman when you need him?
December 6, 2012 at 20:58 #421846I just hope Sanctuaire is good enough to get Sprinter off the bridle so we can really see him cut loose. I’d be amazed if he’s within 5 lengths of him at the finishing post.

Yikes, posting on TRF and drinking organic zider really don’t mix. Thanks for the reminder, boz.
