It’ll be nice to see Sizing Europe back over a shorter distance.
Big Zeb is looking flawless though, his jumping seems to have improved loads over the last year too.

I’ve seen some nutty decisons in my time but not many would top sending and Arkle winner after Kauto Star in the King George.
Albeit the great horse had an off day but that doesn’t excuse stupiity or greed.
The last time these 2 met Sizing Europe blew him away which makes even more unbelievable.
The fact he won the Arkle and obvously retains much of his speed surely the obvious move would have been to keep him to 2 miles and go after Big Zeb?
Alan Potts should have taken a step back and let the trainer make the decisions.
His preperation is all to pot now. He had a long break before Cheltenham last year and it worked but that by the looks of it isn’t going to happen this year.
Henry De has to run him here in the hope he’ll put up a good enough show to knock any silly ideas of running him in the Gold Cup on the head.
Way I look at it is I’d rather be placed in the QMMCC or the Ryanair than finish tailed off in the Gold Cup……Only way he’ll get the trip is getting alift in the course ambulance.
January 25, 2011 at 19:34 #337625Could see a flip flop of the first 2 in the Market for CC if Big Zeb romps in

I am sure Sizing Europe will appreciate the sharper trip but Big Zeb has done nothing wrong. A few weeks ago I took some 7/2 for Big Zeb in the Champion Chase. Time wise he was very impressive last year, I think Masterminded would have his work cut out and I cannot see anything else I think is in the same quality bracket.
January 29, 2011 at 22:33 #338277Big Zeb to just do enough tomoro.
Colm Murphy has done a great job on this horse especially the campaigned he mapped out for it.
Excellent training

Great race in prospect here, and Sizing Europe muat have a lot better chance than the 4/1 suggests.
Big Zeb reportedly needed the run lto, so no surprise he’s out again so quickly, but BG won’t be able to treat SE with the same disdain he did Golden Silver, and SE could well do the fav for speed.
Couldn’t have GS at any price, so a f/c saver BZ/SE might be in order, but I believe Sizing Europe has the class and (now) the experience to take this convincingly.January 30, 2011 at 14:20 #338353Turned into an absolute cracker! A couple of interesting things for me:
1) After about a mile the horses on the pace seemed to be going at a mighty clip, and I just thought that could play into the hands of Golden Silver, who was sitting 4 lengths off Big Zeb at the back of the field, doing things in his own time. That is the way it turned out. The race was run to suit him, and he came through with a tremendous late challenge to collar Big Zeb on the run-in.
2) The confidence with which Barry Gerathy pucked Big Zeb at a couple of the fences turning for home was astonishing. He absolutely fired him at them and he took lengths out of Scotsirish and Sizing Europe. The speed at which he got from one side of a fence to the other was breathtaking.
In my mind, Big Zeb is still the one they’ll all have to beat at Cheltenham, and the 4/1 now available with Ladbrokes is an each way steal.
January 30, 2011 at 15:26 #338370I agree it was very interesting and while I wouldn’t make excuses for my pick Big Zeb on the pace, I do think Geraghty found himself in front too soon which should not be a problem at Cheltenham.
Great ride on Golden Silver after two fences he was more likely to pull up than win.
I am in agreement on the 4/1 available for Big Zeb in the Champion Chase, that has to be a bet in my view.
January 30, 2011 at 15:46 #338373A fully tuned up and fit Master Minded will blow Big Zeb away.

It will be interesting to see if MM can do a Puff the Magic Dragon but a part from the big 2 the race looks awful this year.
Woolcombe Folly is improving but you’d have to think Master Minded is the much better of the two.
Captain Cee Bee probably won’t run, Stomserby won’t get within 10 lengths of MM this time.
Can’t believe those would be bookmakers Skybet are still quoting Petit Robin at 25/1… they should be warned off.
January 30, 2011 at 16:36 #338377Doesnt strike me as a bad run by the BZ today. He travelled and jumped to well.
Bookies pushing out his price for the festival is good news for those fans

Golden Silver’s win at Leopardstown in 2009 was massive on my ratings and knew what I was fully on to and proceeded in backing him at Cheltenham at large odds (66/1) and just didn’t show up.
Don’t know if today win suggests he’s 60 odd points better horse in the market than last year, he could and in truth he should turn up at Cheltenham to put in a similar showing.
January 31, 2011 at 09:24 #338458I’d be delighted with Big Zeb’s run. He jumped super and a combination of getting there too soon and very holding ground just cost him. Murphy will have left a little bit to work on and that run will leave him spot on. A line through last year’s Arkle form (Sizing Europe/Somersby) suggests it was every bit as good a prep run as Master Minded’s last weekend.
Golden Silver has a great chance in the Ryanair. I hope Willie doesn’t deviate from the original plan now though. He’s a completely different horse when held up off a fast pace. They’ve been riding him too aggresively on his previous visits to England.
February 1, 2011 at 17:13 #338660I’ve read the reports on this race but not watched it.
I think Big Zeb is a cracking bet for the QM. He is almost E/W at 7/2 and if he does touch 4/1 is surely a certainty for a place with a storming win chance.
For me, Master Minded has looked vulnerable and does not seem to be finishing his races with the same zest as when he was champ.
I think Big Zeb will tank around with the strong pace and comprehensively reverse this form with Golden Silver.
I also reckon Zeb could be fav on the day and the top two will flip flop.

February 1, 2011 at 23:54 #338755Willie Mullins was absolutely clear that due to a combination of his liking for soft ground and his previous disappointments at Cheltenham, Golden Silver would be pot hunting in 2 mile chases in Ireland this season. He would go to the festival but as an afterthought, it is therefore likely he was fitter for Sunday than Big Zeb who should still be fav for the QM in my view.
I would agree a very good prep for BZ (who will probaly retain his crown) but I would differ on Golden Silver’s chances in the Ryanair…I think he only just stays 2 miles and probably doesn’t stay that distance properly at Cheltenham.
A hugely likeable and talented horse GS but I couldnt see him getting home strongly in the Ryanair. - AuthorPosts
