Looking for horses that will appreciate being ridden by a female apprentice or jockey for the first time.
4.45 Down Royal – Tipper Road. Has been ridden by females before, but without effect, so this is not a selection.
3.10 Pontefract – Bazergan. Jockey is actually 1-1 on the horse, the only time a female has ridden it. I wish I could make this one my nap in the World Tipster competition, but I already chose one last night.
June 21, 2010 at 16:19 #302464Tipper Road was a non-runner.
Not a very good start with Bazergan.
Just noticed that Cativo Cavallino has won at Lingfield this afternoon, 25/1 with Natalia Gemelova on board. She has actually ridden the horse about 30 times. The interesting thing though from the point of view of this thread, is that the first time she rode the horse, it won at 20/1. Actually won 5 times out of the first 8 times – 20/1, 6/1, 7/1, 11/2. 7/1.
Anyway, the two I chose for the Naps competition today are
Jolly Ranch – 7.20 Chepstow
Stargazy – 5.30 Wolverhampton
Kelly Harrison actually rode Jolly Ranch 4 runs ago, and it was beaten a head.
Stargazy has actually been ridden by a female 6 out of the last 7 times (not last time), but interestingly won on the first of those occasions.
June 21, 2010 at 16:22 #302465Jeez, I know I use the word ‘actually’ quite a lot when I speak, but I’ve just used it five times in two posts when writing.
June 21, 2010 at 16:30 #302468Doing Towy Boy in this race as well. Amy Ryan is a sub for Paul Hanagan.
June 21, 2010 at 16:34 #302469Towy Boy ran out of steam.

Stargazy missed the start by 8 lengths. Amy Scott.
June 21, 2010 at 18:27 #302501Well, at least I chose the right race to play in. The winner was 94.6 on betfair.
Time for a song to cheer us up.

For tomorrow, Cathy Gannon is riding Ocean Countess in the 3.00 at Brighton. Has won four out of five on it. 14/1, 5/1, 4/1, 15/2.
Selections however are
4.00 BrightonYehonda
– KM
Stargazy same race!6.20 Newbury
First To Call
– Debra England.
June 22, 2010 at 14:02 #302647Stargazy had six months off, then ran last Thursday and yesterday. Was expecting it to be a non-runner today, but it ain’t. Ran last year on 21st Jan and then 23rd Jan, finishing 3rd on the latter occasion. They seem to be tying something with the horse, so I’m stupidly going to chuck another couple of quid at it.
June 22, 2010 at 15:03 #302656BOOM
June 22, 2010 at 15:34 #302658Great spot, should have napped it!!!!
June 22, 2010 at 16:08 #302659
I was expecting it to be a non-runner.June 22, 2010 at 16:24 #302662Shame…especially as the Nap leader is going to take some catching!!!
On a slighty different subject, in the competition we’ve had Scottish and English meetings on a Saturday so far, with so many Irish members, to make things fairer all round will we be getting any Irish Saturday cards ?
PS I’m Scottish born and based in case you think this is self interest
June 22, 2010 at 17:23 #302674Well, there is a G1 and 2 G3s at the Curragh this Saturday . . .
June 22, 2010 at 18:07 #302678Well, there is a G1 and 2 G3s at the Curragh this Saturday . . .
That would be great! It’s the best meeting of the day
June 22, 2010 at 18:42 #302690Not enough handicaps
June 22, 2010 at 18:59 #302692Not enough handicaps

So????? I hope we aren’t getting Windsor instead
June 23, 2010 at 14:30 #302774Haven’t got a reply from Cormack yet. He hasn’t been around since Sunday afternoon, so maybe he’s on his deathbed?
edit: have just read that Cormack is away.
Made a few notes last night, but nothing stood out as a bet. Let’s see if that changes, now that the betting hour is upon us.
Carlisle
1.25 Witzend. Jockey was having her fifth ever ride, and first since March. Seemed a sensible decision to skip that one.5.15 Red River Boy. Jockey has ridden horse 10 times for 1 win at 20/1.
Bath
6.05 Talamahana. Jockey gets on quite well with horse.6.40 Second To Nun. Twice been ridden by a female jockey before. Horse has had 14 different jockeys in 16 races!
Kempton
5.50 Whispering Spirit. Jockey is riding the horse for the first time, so I suppose this one is a bet.6.20 Night Owl. Horse came a distant second the previous time the jockey rode it. Has won for Amy Baker 1-4, 6/1.
6.50 Mororless. Jockey’s first ride on horse.
Chandrayaan. Jockey’s first ride on horse.
Two bets in the same race.8.20 Requisite. Cosgrave rode it the first four times for form figures of 5211. Since then, the horse has run 33 times, and no jockey has rode it consecutively! Ridden four times bt a female. Horse is in form, but it is favourite.
Sweet Applause. Horse has been ridden by the jockey 8 times for 1 victory at 25/1.8.50 Out Of Nothing. Horse has been ridden by a different jockette 12 times for one victory at 7/1. The sire is the sprint handicapper Perryston View, who used to like to front run alongside a rail. This is one of only two winners he has had. I thought he may be being used as a teaser, but actually he stands at a fee of £1,000.
9.20 Sunshine Always. The jockey has ridden the horse six times for zero victories.
There are no female jockeys riding at Salisbury. Presumably, they don’t like the changing room.
I suppose system bets are on
Whispering Spirit
,
Mororless
and
Chandrayaan
, with quite a few possible other bets available as well.
June 23, 2010 at 16:56 #302794Damn. Missed listening to that one. Had Dusty on youtube again.
