What is the general view of the styaing ranks in Europe at the moment ?
From a distance it looks pretty good to me, but i notice that Racing Post only have 5 horses rated above 120lbs and 4 of them are from Japan,
With Yeats obviously leading the charge, also Septimus, Patkai, Coastal Path, Honolulu. Who else is there ?
July 4, 2008 at 14:16 #171685Geordieland deserves a mention.
I think the staying division is very strong at the moment which adds to Yeats’ achievements however I still think were he to face his stablemate over 2m he would be beaten. 2m4f he is the undisputed king…

Well short of top class???
Given that Geordieland, even with his quirks, was 2nd twice in the Ascot Gold Cup, 2nd in the Goodwood Cup, and 1st and 2nd in the Yorkshire Cup, that isn’t just wrong, it’s a plain insult.July 4, 2008 at 15:20 #171708I agree Reet – If Yeats wasn’t there he would be a dual gold cup winner. Yeats’ brilliance makes him look a bit mediocre….
July 4, 2008 at 15:36 #171711Where are purple moon and mahler these days? Surprised they havent been on the track, especially as purple moon was gelded. Are they injured, as havent seen any reports on them.

Everytime he has come up against a Yeats or a Septimus (ie. genuine Group 1 perfomers) he has been firmly put in his place.
That, in most people’s books, would have him well short of top class.
It should be well known by now that Geordieland pulls up when he hits the front and has to be saved until the last few seconds.
Ridden this way (which he wasn’t against Septimus).he got closer to Yeats in last year’s Gold Cup than any other horse ever has, or is likely to in Yeats preferred conditions (2m+ on fast ground). Had his jockey not (excusably) bottled it this year, he would no doubt have done the same.
If one and a half lengths behind Yeats is “well short of top class” I will take up origami. - AuthorPosts
