And Holy Roman Emperor wins comfortably.
Oh well at least I got the value :crying:
August 13, 2006 at 14:52 #75282That was impressive, lulls you into a false sense of security by racing lazily at halfway then storms through. Hopefully he’s Dewhurst bound.
August 13, 2006 at 15:03 #75283Best performance so far by a 2yo colt IMO. Not that I think we’ve seen any great 2yo colts so far.
August 13, 2006 at 16:46 #75284I would be surprised if this turned out to be their Guineas horse. Looks a real pro two year old to me and the fact they are even considering running him in the Morny next weekend (and likely to) suggests they know they have to get the wins out of him this year.
August 13, 2006 at 16:50 #75285I read on teletext that AOB said after the race that Holy Roman Emperor will run next weekend in the Prix Morny. I would have thaught he’d be tough to beat in that race even though it is only a week away.
The ground conditions will probably be quite a bit softer in France than the ground he ran on today. I don’t know whether that would be a problem for him or not.
August 13, 2006 at 17:59 #75286I hope that no-one bothers to point out that the time compares well with Moss Vale’s time. Moss Vale’s race was run at anything but a true pace early on.
August 14, 2006 at 08:36 #75287O’Brien was quoted yesterday as saying that HRE is built like a tank and wants to race.. Looking at his physique you’d have to be wary of whether or not he will progress that much over the winter… I think there will still be better and scopier two year olds out there…

Why you may have a point, they probably thought that about Rock of Gibraltar the way he was campaigned.
August 14, 2006 at 10:04 #75289Perhaps but ROG won two of the big two year old races at the end of the season, including the Dewhurst. Would not surprise me if even at that stage HRE was struggling a bit.
August 14, 2006 at 10:26 #75290I noticed that the 4.45 race at the Curragh (over 7f) was a relatively fast time for a moderate, although competitive handicap.
I didn’t see the races and have no information about course lay out, wind or ground drying out, but all things being equal – which they seldom are – this fast time seems to indicate that the ground may have been quicker than it seemed.
This race was about 25lbs faster than I would have expected, while Holy Roman Emperor was about 20lbs faster. Both excellent speed figures, but held down a bit by the 4.45 time(presuming, of course that the RP standards are reliable).
