Paul – you’re probably right, possibly no one cares. But that’s probably because most people are none the wiser. They’d care if they knew they were being ripped off.

Correct, the majority of the once a year Punters dont give a monkeys about the price of their horse but like you say it doesn’t give bookmakers the right to Rip em off and year in year out they see the Grand national as a Bookies Benefit,£50k profit for a days work isn’t bad for the ‘Middle row’ alone, its a helluva lot more for the Big Boys! Anyone who told family and friends weeks in advance to get on either ‘Seabass’ or ‘Shakalakaboombooom’ at 25/1 would have been dissapointed at their 8/1 at the off price! But nobody would question it!

My OP said return on Win Bets. Your place betting on the National was considerably more profitable!

    Ye right.

The place bet on NC was a saver bet EF. To get back most of the money if I didn’t get the winner. All part of the same race/strategy. But if you want to separate them in terms of profit…

All win bets showed a profit of 312 points
Place bet showed a profit of 86 points.

I’m just wondering if there could be more mileage in big races with 30 up running having less bets but backing just on the place market?

2 of your main selections were placed 1st and 4th and someway down your list you had the 2nd.

Can’t critisise you or winning just would like to see you winning more then you can give me some

The overround this year was 152%.

Of course, the supine racing "journalists" will say nothing.

If you want a decent price get on early and take the price, many bookmakers were going best odds guaranteed.

If the "once a year" punters cannot be bothered to do their research they, surely, it is their problem, Caveat emptor!!

I know exactly what you mean Paul. Why these people who want to take an interest in our sport, even just once a year, can’t be bothered to research how the betting market works amazes me. They deserve to be ripped off. To be honest we can do without them. If we’re not careful they will take a real interest in our sport and want to stay involved in it. It will be the death of racing as we know it.

Only a couple of weeks ago I was at Warwick sipping my G & T on the veranda of the Margaret Thatcher Bar. After the horse’s passed the post there was a lot of cheering and arm waving from a couple of lads near the rail. I think they were some of those working class types, they weren’t even wearing ties and they probably voted Labour. I mean, whatever is wrong with a bit of polite applause and a ‘jolly good show’. I was going to send my servant to summon the racecourse manager to complain but, unfortunately the bunion on my foot meant I had to use him as a foot stool.
