I am seriously considering having one of my seasonal stupid bets on Spin Cycle, I just cant believe a horse as good as him is 66-1 for this.
Fair enough Bul, but he is 66/1 for winning twice at Mussleburgh and once
at Hamilton now if the race was run in Scotland, he might have a chance
unfortunately he cant win in England! The horse can win anywhere he wants on gd-fm, it may be worth watching last years norfolk stakes over course and distance, he only just failed. The fact that he has only had gd-fm in scotland and at ascot in his career is merely a coincidence, looking at the fact that smart pulled him from the temple when the rain cmae I suspect he has cottoned on to where his strength lies.
I really fancy him to run much better than that 66-1 price in the kings stand, but to say that he cant win in england is just silly and sure to bite you in the ass, when he does win in england. This one has a few group races in him.
May 26, 2009 at 01:53 #230155He’s entered over 5 and 6f at Haydock this weekend too Bulwark, can’t see it being anything other than soft up there.

I’d imagine from a training perspective that Smart wants to get a sprint race into him against a decent sort of grade just to keep him ticking over until ascot, but if his temple withdrawal is anything to go by I dont think he’ll risk him on softer conditions. Worth watching this space…

I cant knock your Foresight Bul, Money where your mouth is and that,
Good luck! I cant help feeling the space i will be watching is the one Fleeting Spirit puts between herself and the rest of the field though!May 27, 2009 at 02:15 #230385While Spin Cycle is good value if it turns out the way he wants, he’d need some effort to topple Amour Propre on it one would think and on ground that didn’t suit both, Amour Propre gave him a 9.5l bashing
May 27, 2009 at 03:21 #230392Well, Overdose might be missing from Royal Ascot, but news has reached me today of ANOTHER flying machine from the East – and someone must know something because I’ve just been quoted only 33-1 for the Kings Stand Stakes!!!
The horse? YIALYSSOS! Bred by So Factual and apparently picked up cheap at the sales, winner of the Hellenic Sprint Championship in Athens, is unbeaten in 9 races in his Greek homeland, and has won them all by at least 5 lengths.
Hmmm….lets look at the facts:
Reasonably cheap purchase.
Trained in unfashionable country not known for horseracing success.
Unbeaten in all races.
Winning sprints by large margins.
Sound familiar? Well, I was told about Overdose when he won the St Laszlo Cup in Budapest as a 2 year old – I’ve not seen any footage of this Greek horse and the person who told me about him isn’t too up on racing, but could we have yet another sprint star from the East?

Amour Propre doesnt worry me a great deal, amour propre is clearly a good horse adaptable to different surfaces where Spin Cycle isnt, its a bit hard to argue that the race where he was defeated by amour propre is anywhere close to a reflection of what he can muster on a faster surface.
Theres no doubting that Spin Cycle is the one who has it to prove against Amour Propre, but I think he’s got in in him. IMO theres very little between their gd-fm performances, however they both clearly have different running styles and obviously with AP being a front runner he would be at a great advantage if the pace were slow, but that seldom happens in the kings stand, and Spin Cycle looks like one of the few horses who can genuinely muster an impressive turn of foot on gd-fm over 5f.
I dont want to talk him up too much, remembering off course that he is a 66-1 shot, but I am just excited about him as theres nothing I love more than a grossly overpriced horse.

I owe you a drink, what an amazing finish to get up on the line, 5f I think would be too fast for him, but he could crush his field in The Golden Jubilee Stakes. Looked a 6f sprinter to me.
Trained now by Luca Cumani, ridden by William Buick.

Thanks. To be honest, when he stumbled out of the stalls, I just thought ‘Oh no!’, but he absolutely flew at the finish. Apologies for getting the name wrong, but it is a bit difficult when you’re on the phone to someone saying ‘Y-I-Y, no, no that’s wrong, it’s ‘I-Y-I-A-I’, no, just a moment’. At one stage, I thought the horse was called ‘Yialiyiyialiyiyassoss’, but we got there in the end!!
I did back the horse at 33s for the Kings Stand but didn’t back him for the Golden Jubilee. He’s also entered for the July Cup, which could be fascinating if Overdose is back. The Budapest Bullet versus The Greek Freak! Mmmm….Tasty!!!

There’s a great deal of difference taking on listed sprinters compared to British G1 sprinters let alone true international G1 horses

He looked so laboured and slow I gave up on him during the race, until I heard his name being screamed by commentary, he has some toe about him.

I take the point about Ialysos needing to improve on the bare form but who are these British Group 1 sprinters?

So I hear. A pity I just backed him for the Kings Stand really. Might back him for the Golden Jubilee as well now – I think 20s is available, and bearing in mind what a poor start he got, and the fact that he was running on turf for the first time, I really think there is more to come from the ‘Greek Freak’.
I wonder, if he does perform well at Royal Ascot, will connections maybe go for the Breeders Cup Sprint? 6 furlongs on sand round a bend might be his thing.

May 31, 2009 at 23:47 #231324As Sir Gerry is by Carson City, I’ve been thinking that maybe he would be better off in the States too.
June 1, 2009 at 11:22 #231368Having watched Tax Free all his career i can assure all those doubters that
he has defineately improved this year, my only concern with him running
in the Kings stand is that Dandy said he hated Ascot, when he last got beat there so i was under the impression he wouldn"t run! Tax will have needed to have improved if he has any chance of beating the flyingFleeting Spirit
i have backed them both though!

Horses capable of winning/placing in Group 1’s and who are near enough proven against the best we have to offer – namely Fleeting Spirit, Diabolical, Utmost Respect, Kings Apostle etc.
