Indeed not, Simon Jones is one of my favourite cricketers, but there’s no call for that. It’s not as if the match is important or anything…
Australia 1.78 favourites for today’s final one day game at Lord’s but they have been too short all series and though they should be favourites today, I’m not sure that price is particularly generous.
Had a little go in the top scorer markets and gone with Michael Clarke and good old Collingwood again. Don’t see why Ponting should be 4.5 whilst Clarke is 6.2, given that they are both likely to be in fairly early.
England market is harder, but though it sounds strange, I just didn’t think last game that Strauss looks in top nick yet. Kieswetter is a bad series away from the drop, KP is not in form and that just leaves Morgan and Colly and the Durham man is available at slightly bigger odds.
Also hope that Flower and Strauss overcome their fondness for Bresnan and give Shahzad a run out (if available – not sure if still in the squad?) I have a horrible feeling we are going to go to Australia with a three man seam bowling attack – Daisy, Bambi and Bresnan.
July 3, 2010 at 09:57 #304316I’m in slight favour of Morgan to top score on the basis he’s already having a good series and that Lords is his home pitch at county level, although I’ve stuck to loyalty and had a couple of quid on Kieswetter to rise to the occasion.

July 3, 2010 at 11:48 #304329Well you have an advantage, Nathan, in that both of your selections are actually playing!
July 3, 2010 at 21:16 #304462Thank goodness for Collingwood.
FPT tomorrow, seven games and had an interest in these:
Essex v Hants
Home side should be shorter than Evens, they are looking pretty good under Foster and Hampshire don’t convince me at all.Leicester v Notts
Leicester are a bit hit and miss, but they are worth backing at 2.5 against Notts, who will be without David Hussey and Dirk Nannes. Notts have never won a T20 game at Leicester.Kent v Gloucester
Kent are a dreadful outfit, their batting was feeble last time out and they’ve lost 3 of their last 4. Gloucester are another team to reshuffle things, with Gidman stepping down in favour of Porterfield and they look a lot more dangerous as a result. 2.1 about the visiting side is again too high.July 3, 2010 at 22:27 #304479Andrew that was a very good selection there with Collingwood. I didn’t get to watch alot of the action but did manage to catch Tait’s opening spell, wow high 90’s and swinging ((thanks god he didn’t play against Somerset for Glamorgan))

July 3, 2010 at 23:20 #304492Well Jeff Thomson seemed to think at the Oval that the speed gun wasn’t working right, but I don’t know, he looks bloody quick to me.
Trouble is, for Australia, he can’t do a whole Test match, certainly not a series.
I think Somerset are a little short for the game with Middlesex, think they were 1.65 or something round that. Clearly, they should be favourites, but that was a shocking effort against Surrey.
I will not mention Worcestershire, or indeed my tiny but nevertheless foolish bet on them winning the T20. I wish I could say I had been drinking, but I was entirely sober.
July 4, 2010 at 09:49 #304536Don’t get me started on the Somerset/Surrey game. I had talked myself out of betting but changed my mind last minute when I found out Symonds and Nel were not playing.(I’m a idiot)

I will not mention …………
…..Worcestershire.

July 4, 2010 at 20:14 #304680Handsome win for Somerset today, good old Trescothick.
Pakistan v Australia tomorrow. Pakistan too big at 2.56 on Betfair, considering they still have one of the best T20 records in world cricket, the format is so volatile and were all over Australia in the World T20 until Hussey’s heroics.
I’ve backed Pakistan to win and both David Hussey and Shahid Afridi to top score for their sides at 8.0 on the exchanges, as both have a good chance of coming in at four and are T20 players in form.
Also looking forward to watching Shoaib Akhtar again.
July 5, 2010 at 17:36 #304843Handsome win for Somerset today, good old Trescothick.
I’m so much more confident about Somerset’s chances when Trescothick is in good form so hopefully this knock will have woke him up from his slump with the bat as I was starting to worry the old fella might be past it.

July 6, 2010 at 11:34 #304972Odd prices around for today’s T20. Yesterday I backed Pakistan at 2.56. They won. Today they are available at 2.62. Go figure.
Missed the boat with Afridi and Hussey, both were available at 8.0 for the first game but can only get 7.0 this time and that’s probably more like it.
July 6, 2010 at 16:47 #3050631/3 Wormelow CC win Worcester League Div 3
July 6, 2010 at 19:54 #305095Not sure I’d want to take those odds half way through the season. Kidderminster Victoria are looking good…
July 7, 2010 at 21:37 #305327I love Worcestershire’s twenty/20 outfit, whatever next the army going to war wearing cricket whites?

Nice knock from Gareth Andrew, I remember watching his first one day match for Somerset and always thought he was a better batsmen then most people think and that he was capable of a knock like today’s. Maybe Worcester still might have an outside chance of making 4th although will possibly have to win the whole remaining games.

July 8, 2010 at 14:52 #305464Indeed, I know it is for charity and all that, but they look ridiculous, like extras from the A-team.
As for your suggestion about qualifying for the quarter-finals, I believe they would need to win all their remaining games and also hope that a few of the other teams are disqualified. Hell freezing over may also need to occur at some point. Still, you never know…
July 8, 2010 at 19:00 #305505I’ll forgive them as I didn’t realise they were wearing them for charity, fair play to Worcester although if they run out at the start of next season wearing nurses uniforms I will start to worry.

Mathematically possible for Worcester but I think most sensible people would take the odds of hell freezing over instead.
What’s your thoughts on the summers test series between England and Pakistan?
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 8, 2010 at 20:33 #305526Haven’t considered that one yet, as I think they’re playing Australia first. Obvious worry for Pakistan would be their lack of experience at the top of the order, they really should have found a place for Younis Khan. But I think they’ll be tough, the bowling is solid with Aamer, Gul, Asif and Kaneria/Afridi. For England, I’m not sure about Trott at 3, Pietersen’s form and the balance of the team.
Will be able to get a better idea after the Australia series.
As first step on Worcestershire’s march to the FPT title, I have backed them at 2.25 to beat Durham tomorrow, they should have Solanki back and Durham don’t look that bothered to me. Also backed Glamorgan to repeat their defeat of Surrey at 2.2
That nurses uniform image is a horrible one that may take some time to get out of my head…
July 10, 2010 at 17:14 #305851Nearly got it did Worcester, however they are dead now , maybe next year they will get more inspiration from the nurses uniform.

As for Somerset with Hampshire winning today that means Somerset can afford to lose 3 games and still make the quarter final draw. It would be nice to finish in the top two as a home draw would benefit.
Off to watch the rest of the England game, looks like it might be a tight one.
