Got stuck into Tataniano today at 5-6, still got a large bet at 14’s for Arkle which looks pretty much home and dry now nothing should beat him.

2 cracking performances from Tataniano and Sizing Europe complicates things even more.
We now have Crack Away Jack, Osana,Tataniano,Sizing Europe and Somersby all looking like they could win an Arkle with Cousin Vinny and Captain Cee Bee yet to jump a fence in public.
Mindboggling race if they all turn up

Tataniano and Sizing Europe did both win pretty well. Crack Away Jack did jump well on his debut but there was little opposition and he is very much priced up on hurdles form. He is yet to string together a sequence of performances. Osana, who may well have been beaten had Roberto Goldback jumped the last and Somersby have to show a great deal more to be winning an Arkle. Hopefully, having gained some Cheltenham experience Tataniano will just have one more run on better ground before the Festival. It doesn’t look as if he needs too much more practice and it would be better to go there relatively fresh.
November 15, 2009 at 16:51 #258797Another huge run by Sizing Europe today. 5 secs quicker than the 138 rated Blueberry Boy in the 2m hcap chase on the same card, and SE was carrying 3lbs more.
I still don’t trust him enough to say he will win the Arkle but he is a horse with truly phenomenal talent

Sizing Europe was indeed impressive this afternoon, but I think the decision not to take on Tataniano at Cheltenham speaks volumes. Henry De Bromhead had no concerns about bringing the horse over for the Greatwood two seasons ago, had two runners at the course on Friday, would have been treated to almost identical ground conditions to Punchestown in a race worth the same amount of money (give or take) and surely knows that course form counts for plenty come the Festival.
Ultimately he’s beaten very little very easily – Major Finnegan is useful enough, but he wasn’t knocked around to finish second and almost certainly needs better ground – and I wouldn’t be in any rush to back him for the Arkle.
Other than a speculative (minor) interest in Bergo – out to 209 on Betfair – Captain Cee Bee is the only other horse that really interests me at this stage. He has, by all accounts, been exciting connections during schooling and is a big enough price to offset the risk of backing a horse yet to be seen this season.
November 15, 2009 at 17:53 #258810seems to be enjoying jumping the bigger obsttacles and if they can keep him sound till march should be an interesting contender

Very fair point.
He is a talented animal but can’t have him for the Arkle. I think conections are aware of his limitations and are happy to sweep up some easier races at home.
November 16, 2009 at 11:31 #258903Sizing Europe has 3/3 wins this season, and whilst that looks impressive, he has beating nothing in my opinion.
I still wouldnt have him for the Arkle.
Tataniano is 2 years younger than Sizing Europe, yet looks a much more classy prospect for the race at Cheltenham in March.
Medermit will go chasing now, with the Arkle in mind, hasn’t done much if any schooling at home as of yet, but im sure Mr King will get on with that a.s.a.p.
November 16, 2009 at 11:44 #258908Can’t wait to see Medermit jump a fence; one of my favourite horses. Although, for the future, have heard that AK thinks Lidar is one of the best he’s ever trained.
November 16, 2009 at 11:52 #258910Lidar does look a nice horse, looked good on the gallops last week and does seem a nice sort.
I think Ghizao of Paul Nicholls will be a good horse, and yet is a year older than Lidar, and Ghizao beat Lidar by 6 lengths at Cheltenham yesterday.
Haven’t spoken at length about Lidar, but does look one to keep an eye on.
November 16, 2009 at 12:22 #258923Wouldn’t be backing Sizing Europe or Tataniano for the Arkle at this stage.

I would agree that at the current prices it is probably not worth getting involved. Having said that I see Sizing Europe has been cut again today.
Obviously, those still wading in are not too bothered about several negatives:-
The return to a course where he was a major flop last time.
Although it seemed he preferred a quicker surface as a younger horse there is possibility he now needs a little bit of cut – even allowing for a doctored surface the ground in March is likely to be a lot quicker than he has been racing on this season.
Has looked a very safe jumper but so had Notre Pere – I can’t remember Lynch riding too many winners at the Festival – there will be huge pressure riding a Cheltenham favourite.
As touched upon in today’s Post the Champion Chase now looks pretty open – at least a year older than the usual Arkle candidates it would not be such a surprise to see him run against a field which is likely to be half the size of the Arkle. If all the potential hotpots turn up the Arkle might look a better race than the Champion Chase.November 17, 2009 at 07:30 #259053For me Sizing Europe is not a horse you want on your side in a battle. When he outclasses the field then yes he is a pretty safe proposition but he does not strike me as an animal who would get down and dirty when the chips were down. I cannot see him outclassing the Arkle field….

Word perfect Ben,and if the ground was to be Good at Cheltenham
he would have even less chance!I am amazed he is favourite for the Arkle,in a match with Tataniano it would be 10/11 Sizing Europe,11/10 Tataniano, and Tataniano would run him ragged!Of course there is a horse calledSomersby
who will spoil the market leaders party!

Absolutely dreaming Tatiano run Sizing Europe ragged.
Wouldn’t get him off the bridle…….never got Fosters Cross off the bridle let alone a Champion Hurdle horse. He’ll win sfa and Somersby nice as he is wouldn’t be good enough either……wish I could get a bet the winner ran in a Champion Hurdle.
November 17, 2009 at 21:01 #259161I suppose if Sizing Europe carrys on skipping around the Irish courses on soft ground and maintains something like a bit of consistency, then he could end up 2/1 fav for the Arkle!Thats when TAPK will strike like a funnel web spider and lay him!Sizing will find trying to get out of the web all too much,it will happen all too quickly for him!Just like 2m around Cheltenham will!
November 17, 2009 at 21:09 #259164I just cant have Sizing Europe at all for the Arkle.
There will be many more horses that come into the frame for race, and whilst he has won 3/3 he has beaten nothing.
