Mikael wins this. Not much else to say!
November 1, 2009 at 11:53 #256552Yes Hard Held, think I might take the 10/1!

I haven’t yet but will do. No rush as he won’t run until December.
Having said what I’ve said it does look like being a cracking Arkle with horses like Captain Cee Bee (think he would have won the 2009 Champion Hurdle if he’d been fit and aimed at it), Crack Away Jack, Sizing Europe, Tataniano etc.
But I just think Mikael is something very special. Might see if a boomkaker will give me a price on him for the 2011 Gold Cup too!
November 1, 2009 at 12:12 #256557Yeah Captain Cee Bee is the horse I’m most looking forward to returning.
November 1, 2009 at 19:35 #256608Willie Mullins’ stable tour:
MIKAEL D’HAGUENET
5 b g Lavirico – Fleur D’Haguenet
"Showed plenty of speed throughout last season and looks a top-class chasing prospect following his Festival wins over hurdles at Cheltenham and Punchestown. He threw a splint a little while back and also sustained a cut, which meant him missing a month’s work, but it’s not the end of the world as he ran over fences in France so has the experience. I’ll try to run him early in December in preparation for Christmas andwe’ll start off thinking he’s an Arkle horse, although he’ll also have the RSA Chase as an option.
He seems to handle decent ground, but prefers some cut."

You know what they say "If it looks too good to be true then it is"
Do any of you really think you would get 10/1 and 12/1 about Mikael D’Haguenet for the Arkle if it was his intended target?
He’s drifted like a barge for the Arkle. Cousin Vinny who was 20/1 is now 3rd fav at 12/1 behind Sizing Europe and Crack Away Jack with a major bookie in Ireland and Mikael D’Haguenet has been backed down to 7/2 for the RSA.
I read that Article the day it was written and took nothing more out of it than the possibility he might run the horse over 2 miles first time out.
As things stand we have Sizing Europe, Crack Away Jack, Captain Cee Bee, Snap Tie, Jered, Osana, Cousin Vinny, Tatiano and possibly Ashkazar any one of which could win the Arkle.
In the RSA we have either Puchestowns or Mad Max and em! let me think….well there’s Diamond Harry but hell he murdered him last season ….there’s em! Yeah right lads……..hate to tell you but yer dreaming!!!!!
November 3, 2009 at 08:10 #256848Just goes to show how good an Arkle they are expecting.
Ashkazar failed to attract any attention in the betting market for the Arkle.
It could be they have given up on that idea already running him over 2m4f. Can’t see him being an RSA horse either……….suggested target anyone?
That was Askazar’s 1st attempt past 2 miles so maybe connections have an eye on further targets? Jewson Maybe? Rated 155 over hurdles so likely to be high in the weights when he gets a mark. His breeding suggests a step up in distance shouldnt be a problem and he shouldnt have a problem staying the RSA trip.
Interesting to see where they place him….
From what I hear the first race they are putting him in is back over hurdles in the Greatwood
November 3, 2009 at 13:54 #256900Has anyone seen MD jump a fence yet?
November 3, 2009 at 17:17 #256930Mikael D’Hageuenet was second in his only steeplchase start as a 4yo at Auteuil. It was a poor event, with only the winner Saint Renan going on to show anything remotely like fair form subsequently.
Not that this should have too much bearing on how he goes over fences for Mullins – Mikael’s hurdling form wasn’t all that either, in three runs for his previous trainer.
November 3, 2009 at 18:45 #256945He’s come over the river and is now taking on inferior horses
November 4, 2009 at 14:38 #257072Nice debut there from Somersby – Straw Bear not a chaser so hard to know exactly what he’s done but he can jump and never looked in any real trouble.

That is an interesting step. Doesn’t look an obvious race for the horse….

Guaranteed fitness counts for a lot at this time of the year Ben. He is an Imperial Cup winner so if they race cut up he could be switched from the chase he’s entered in at the last minute. As it stands I can’t see them taking on the likes of Nicky Henderson’s Sentry Duty or Star Luck the latter looking very well in if he gets the trip.
Ashkazar has a bit of class about him even if he’s not an Arkle horse there could be a good race in him somewhere. The big question is where with him.
November 7, 2009 at 07:19 #257550Pipe’s Greatwood Hurdle horse will be Ronaldo Des Mottes.
